water to wash it.

Q: What do you do to keep your floors clean? Both for carpets and hardwood floors.
By taking off your shoes at the door, and making sure you go through the house every day with the vacum, to make sure the dirt is picked up, because that is the culprit. And for dusting find a fuzzy pair of booties to use for dusting the floor works great clean as you walk.
Q: I desperately need to fix my oak floors.
If you are confident enough to do this yourself, you'll have to start by renting a floor sander. Get the kind with 4 smaller cricular pads... DON'T get a drum sander. They are difficult to use and can realy mess up a floor if used incorrectly. The type w 4 pads usually has a dust collention system attached (very convenient). After sanding the finish is up to your preference as to color. Make sure to end w a floor grade polyeurethane (get one made for gyms floors).
Q: Are unlevel floors always a sign of some sort of structural damage( framing, floor joysts etc) ? Or are there other causes? If so, what are they?
There could be structural or foundation damage. Or it could be the house settling unevenly. It depends on what you mean by unlevel. Are the floors perfectly straight just tilting off to a side. Or are the floors warped, bowed? Or are there lips and noticable bumps? If you are looking at a house to buy, you might want to pass or have an expert look at it. If you own the house and want to repair, you will probably want someone skilled to look at it.
Q: My vinyl floor is loosing it's luster and I would like to refinish it, not replace it. Is there a product I can use to restore it's shine
When my Armstrong floor was installed I read that they sold a product that you could apply after time if the floor lost its shine. There are also floor waxes that go on fairly easy that give a good shine as well if you can't find a product compatible with your floor. Look at a do-it-yourself building supply store that sells floors like yours.
Q: I'd like to buy a non-wool floor cover that's heat insulating and soft on barefoot (ie not seagrass). Any suggestions?
Go for cork tiles. They meet all of your criteria.
Q: Does anyone have any experience with cork flooring? PLease give details.
This is a good question, sadly most websites selling or promoting cork flooring won't give you any negatives about cork. I'll try to give you the best opinion on cork flooring to help you make the right choice. I've given you the three best pros and three worst cons. Pros - Cork flooring is a natural renewable resource (cork, it's main material is harvest via the bark of the cork oak tree) - Cork flooring naturally resists pests and is anti-allergic (this is due to Suberin in cork) - Cork flooring is very comfortable a durable (due to the honeycomb like cellular structure which contains 90% gas) Cons - Cork flooring isn't cheap compared to other wood flooring solutions. As with any other type of green or eco-friendly product. - Cork flooring requires a sealant after installation, which can effect it's fire resistance properties that it's sometimes marketed as. - Cork flooring isn't water proof, it is water resistant and perfect for bathrooms and kitchens. However, water underneath a cork floor can damage it in the long run as with any flooring type. Don't buy the whole cork stopperwine bottle theory at face value.
Q: I recently purchased a product called Rejuvenate Floor Restorer to add some shine to my laminate floor as it had a few dull areas from heavy traffic. This product said it was safe to use on every type of floor and would not leave any buildup or residue. I even read several great reviews on it before trying it, so I guess some people had a good experience with it, but not me.
Laminate flooring is supposed to be very easy to care for, only slightly damp mop needed for spills, and regular dusting for dirt. You shouldn't use soap since it dulls the surface. Laminate floors do scratch, so the heavy traffic areas are probably just affected by scratches. Since you used that product, I would suggest trying some non abrasive cleaners... do some spot checks to make sure it works, and doesn't give an effect you don't like before doing the whole floor. Maybe if the surface seems greasy, you could try some mineral spirits?
Q: We recently replaced our carpet with Laminate Flooring. Now, I am looking for an appropriate Vacuum Cleaner? If you know of a good vacuum cleaner which works good on Laminate flooring and does not damage the floor, please let me know. Thanks for your time.
Forget the vacuum cleaner - it will eventually scratch your floor to bits. Secure a dampened wascloth to your broom instead (by means of a hair bobble or rubber band) sweep over the floor and collect all the dust and hair without blowing it everywhere. I found this to be a much easier method and more thorough too. Try it.
Q: ok so i was watching routines on floor and i was just wondering, because it seems highly unlikely people could do the things gymnasts do on regular floors, so are the floors used for floor event like springy floors?
yes. usually they have springs or sponges underneath to give the gymnast more height.
Q: I am putting floating laminate floors in my kitchen. Do I run them under the cabinet toe kicks or up to the and then run a bead of caulk?
Most laminate floor manufacturers advise a 10mm clearance from all vertical surfaces. Fit beading, sometimes called scotias to cover the gap. Glueing the beading with contact adhesive to the vertical surface only, allows the flooring to expand or contract according to temperature and humidity variations. Failing to leave this clearance can cause buckling and creaking and uneven wear due to raised edges.
