Q: We have very nice new wood floors. I have a rug and I need to put a carpet pad under it. Is there a particular kind of carpet pad I should use? I'm afraid it will damage the wood floors somehow. I bought a carpet pad that is like a rubbery grid, just afraid to use it!: Carefully, with the flat edge of a screwdriver, lift the staple straight up, and see if it will come up in one move. If it doesn't, carefully lift the edge which will come up, and pull the rest of the staples up with those long thin pliers. They are near the edges of the room, aren't they? Do they have thin boards attached to some ends? We took about two days to do this with a rowhouse in Baltimore, and once we got the hang of the long flat headed screwdriver, and the delicate pliers, we were set to go. We also did have to remove these plywood type rulers set near the corners of the room. Once we polished, the staple marks weren't noticeable at all.

Q: Our cat who is not declawed, will pick at anything. What carpet would be best in the den?: I think you mean Berber carpet. Why don't you simply go to a carpeting warehouse place and see if they have remnants and get them to bind the edges and then lay it down on the good carpet as a large area rug? I did that one place I lived and it worked out quite well. I also went to a place like Bed Bath and Beyond and looked for large area rugs that they have for kids going into dorm rooms and bought two rugs and laid them over my carpet. They were good for several years and when they got bad I rolled them up and threw them away and unrolled some new ones. I think they ran about $30 per rug.

Q: how often do u buy new carpet for ur house?my husband has never got new capet in this house since he has lived here. and the guy lived here before had the same carpet. I think it is a time for some new carpet. My husband lived here 5 years so far. so who know how long the guy before us had this carpet. how do i get my husband to buy new carpet? also we own the house: I usually replace carpet if I detect wear and tear, the warranty has expired, excessive staining not covered by warranty or there are traffic compression paths. In my rentals, I tend to replace the carpet after each tenant because most are long term renters. When I purchase property that has been occupied previously, I always replace the carpet because I just don't know what happened on it before and how it was maintained. Being the owner of the home, it behooves you to purchase new carpet to add to the value of your home and to be covered by warranty.

Q: My neice spilled pink nail polish on a beige carpet, what can i do to take it out?: I read where someone said creamy peanut butter will take the stains out of a carpet, if that doesn't work try Magic Eraser by the same company that makes Mr. Clean. Magic Eraser took ink stains, nail polish, and other stubborn stains, off of toys that I use to recycle for the mission.

Q: Our dog peed on the bathroom rug while I was taking my brother somewhere and I have no idea what to do. Apparently it's made out of 100% polyester, and I can't put it in the washing machine because I have absolutely no clue how to use it.: Just hand wash it and air-dry it outside.

Q: I just recently moved into an apartment that is all carpet. Wanted to know if there is any sort of temporary hardwood (or anything similar) floors, I can install over the carpet, since I am renting and cant rip out the carpets: no.. it needs to be on the bare floor
