So-called smart chargers can cut off when the job is done and not damage the batteries. Some chargers aren't smart. Overcharging will ruin batteries for sure. Too much heat will kill the batteries. If the charger makes the batteries hot, do not leave them in the charger longer than it takes to charge them. Your best bet is to charge the two sets of batteries, put one set in the camera and anothe set in a non-mettalic coin purse so you have them to change out if your first set goes down while you're on a job. Check your batteries before you need to use them to make sure they are all fully charged.
