- Q: We are having a Secret Santa in our office and the name that I picked is for a woman who I don't know much about. All I know is that she has a nice garden near her home. Last year, I picked her name and I bought her a plant. She loved it! I don't want to get her the same gift this year. It's too difficult to transport from home during the morning rush hour. Any suggestions? The maximum is $20. Thanks!
- I am an avid gardener and can give you some ideas. You could give her packets of seeds or perhaps a bag of bulbs or maybe a gift certificate to Brecks or Spring Hill bulb company. She may like a new gardening tool or a pair of gardening gloves. Maybe a nice flower pot or a little set of pots that can fit on a window sill. A book on gardening (one for her area) is a great idea as well. A gift certificate to a local nursery is a fine gift that will be well received, too.
- Q: Why is this question in the home and garden section?
- Because home and garden appear in the question. Seriously, do you really not have anything better to do? Because this is truly pitiful...
- Q: I am looking for an old Dutch Apple Pie recipe that was in an edition of Better Homes and Gardens in the early 90's. I had the page from the magazine, but now I cannot find it, and I need it for Thanksgiving.
- Go okorder type in Dutch Apple Pie, I bet you will find it.
- Q: Is there anyone in Chicago who loves to work in the garden?
- Does your garden need tending? Hum(-;
- Q: Do cucumbers planted in home garden need to be watered once a day or twince a day ? If there are two or more new small cucumbers on one branch, will they all become fruits that can be reaped ?
- Once a day is plenty either early morning or later at night so the sun doesnt fry them. Dont over water them. Yes the will grow with more than one on a vine. I put mine against my against a trelace (stand) they will climb to for future reference and that makes them more stable and larger. but dont water when its sunny it will damage the plants they could get burnt by the sun.
- Q: I've started a veggie garden in hopes to be more organic and healthy but it wasn't working out so well ...and then I found a really great store near my house with all great natural supplies. But to my suprise I really started to enjoy doing it again!!!yay!!! the guy told me alot of helpful info and products to use ect... but he also told me to read and do as much research as possible so I want a really great website thats free and choc full of info! anyone know of any? tips are also appreciated:)
- My okorder . It is free to register and has TONS of great people and great resources on all things gardening from containers to greenhouses, and shade gardens to veggies. I work for a wholesale garden supply distributor and still find this site invaluable.
- Q: I just started a very strict diet due to a medical condition and it says that I can't eat store bought tomatoes but I can eat home grown, so is that the same as organic?
- Well, homegrown taste soooo much better. But yea, if you don't use anything but sunlight then that's organic. Organic means you use no pesticides or any kinds of chemicals.
- Q: I'm looking for the buckeye candy recipe from he Better Homes Gardens Christmas Cookie publication from 1998. They had a 50-State salute that year, and the buckeye was the recipe for Ohio. If anyone has this, please please post it for me.
- Try this: Makes: about 72 buckeyes Prep: 45 minutes Chill: 4 hours 30 minutes Ingredients 3/4 cup butter (no substitutes) 3-1/4 to 3-3/4 cups sifted powdered sugar 1 cup peanut butter 1 tablespoon milk 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 16 ounces semisweet chocolate 1 tablespoon shortening Directions 1. Melt butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Or, microwave in a microwave-safe bowl on 100-percent power (high) for 1 to 2 minutes. 2. Combine melted butter and 2 cups of the powdered sugar in a medium mixing bowl. Beat until smooth. Add peanut butter, beating until combined. Stir in milk and vanilla. Beat in enough of the remaining powdered sugar to make a firm, crumbly-looking mixture. 3. Roll mixture into 1-inch balls. Arrange on a tray; chill for 30 minutes. 4. Meanwhile, melt chocolate and shortening in a heavy saucepan over low heat. Cool slightly. Using a fork, dip three-fourths of each ball into chocolate mixture so the ball resembles a buckeye. (If the chocolate mixture hardens, remelt over low heat.) 5. Place balls, undipped portion up, on a tray lined with waxed paper. Chill until firm. Store in refrigerator. Makes about 72 buckeyes. - Q: It needs to be free!
- In this program you can create a home or garden that other people can visit and ejoy as well. If you want it to stay in the world while you are gone you would have to pay for some real estate, but it is still possible to create your scene and drop it down in the world whenever you visit. Hope this helps!
