- Q: that will do well, i living in the caribbean. i have some space in the yard and would love to help the home a few streets away, i am new to gardening any advice on what will grow best and how long it will take to produce?
- okra should grow easy in your area, thing is would the kids eat it? tomatoes should be easy enough in your area, i would recommend an heirloom variety, buy seed online. any of the squash would grow well; summer and winter. The winter, which grow in the summer but store well through the winter might be a good choice; they are good cooked until very soft mashed with butter and sugar. onions, buy the sets and grow all winter for spring harvest in your area.
- Q: Hello, My fiance and I are looking for a secluded and/ or garden venue for our wedding next year. It is set to be on a SUNDAY evening Between the weeks of April 16th and May 16th. Sundays are usually offered at a cheaper price. I am looking for a Ceremony and Reception area for $1,000 or less. If you know of one that is a ceremony of reception only, please let me know. It needs to be located in the Central Florida. Or no more than 45 min. from Orlando! =) Thanks so much!!
- I do not know of any place specific but I can give you some suggestions of places to check. First of all check with your department of Parks and Recreation for your city and your surrounding cities. Many parks have lovely gardens as well as community centers which have nice big kitchens. Also check to see if there are any tea houses or restaurants that have gardens and a room you can use for your reception..this may cost you more because of the food...but it doesn't hurt to ask, and see if it fits the budget. Are there are botanical gardens in your area...check with them, and what about any historical homes or gardens?? Check at your local library for some info....also some libraries have gardens....Think outside the box. Good Luck!
- Q: I have taken three phrases from the article, “Why Bother?” and have asked people why this would motivate them into planting a garden. Planting the garden would help with the climate change and in other words going green.Your input would be greatly appreciated“…A great many things happen when you plant a vegetable garden, some of them directly related to climate change, others indirect but related nevertheless.”“…planting a garden sounds pretty benign, I know, but in fact it’s one of the most powerful things an individual can do- - to reduce your carbon footprint…”“Well, you will probably notice that you’re getting a pretty good workout there in your garden, burning calories without having to get into the care to drive to the gym.”All quotes from quot; Why Botherquot; by Michael Pollan
- The most important and logical reason to grow a home garden is it is 100% toxic chemical free, unless you apply them yourself. The second reason is the food has a much better flavor and texture when allowed to vine ripen instead of being subjected to gases to make them ripen. Third is for your health. Home grown veggies reduce cancer and central nervous system damage and other illnesses associated with the chemicals used in the production, storage and preparation of commercial foods. Trying to stop global warming would be the worst reason for trying to grow a garden. It is a misconception that plants will stop green house warming. During the day, plants absorb carbon dioxide, and give off oxygen, at night they reverse the process and take in oxygen and give off carbon dioxide. Simple plants like algae are the exception, giving off more oxygen during the day than carbon dioxide at night. Actually, according to my college classes in chemistry that pertain to the environment, Plants encourage global warming by giving off fluorocarbons through their leaves, a major green house gas. The forest and plant life of the planet are the second greatest contributor to green house gases. Global warming and the wet rainy climate associated with it is good for plants, so by nature, plants try to create an environment best for them. During planetary warming cycles, thousands of new plant species evolve and then die out when the next ice age occurs. Someone must have read only what they wanted from the scientific research on this subject, not the whole study.
- Q: My grandmother updated her cookbook and passed on to my mother but the old recipe is not in any of the versions we currently have. If anyone has an old copy or the recipe it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
- Here is the recipe from my B H G Cookbook that I got in 7th grade cooking class. That would have been about 1950. I hope this is the recipe you are looking for. It sounds delicious. STUFFED ZUCCHINI SQUASH - BETTER HOMES GARDENS 6 medium zucchini 3 cups soft bread crumbs 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1 small onion, minced 3 tablespoons minced parsley 1 teaspoon salt Dash pepper 2 beaten eggs 2 tablespoons butter or margarine Wash zucchini, cut off ends; don't peel. Cook in boiling salted water for 5 minutes. Halve them lengthwise, remove pulp with spoon. Combine pulp with bread crumbs, cheese, onion, parsley, salt, pepper and eggs. Fill zucchini shells. Dot with butter; sprinkle with more cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Makes 6 servings.

I'm new here and didn't want to sound dum by asking the church folk, so I am asking you. Where do I hire a Master Gardener and do you know how much thet charge for their service?
- Usually you can find one at your local extension office through a local university-I don't know what they charge.

- Q: home gardening
- Rotate the placement of your tomatoes in your garden. Other than that, I have no suggestions. I've been growing vegetables for more than 50 years, and have never had a problem with tomatoes getting diseases.
