- Q: Where you stand on one leg with your hands up and out to sides.Isn't standing on one leg in a fight leaving you exposed and vulnerable? What techniques can you actually do from that stance anyway (other than jumping up and kicking with the leg that was on the ground like the karate kid).
- Good question. Apart from the aspect of training, if you use it as a stance like in The Karate Kid in a real street fight or in a pub, it is comically useless. Movies are only movies and the moves are choreographed to captivate the audience's romanticism with Kungfu. But, having said this, the crane stance if used as a transitional move is a practical technique but both outstretched hands are either spear-hands or tiger-claws, not crane-beaks rising from the sides as in The Karate Kid. Or, if targeting only to the frontal opponent, both hands are forward, one fore and the other behind the front hand. The lifted leg is a frontal leg block either with the shin or knee. The knee must reach your solar plexus as a proper position. The whole centre-line is protected for an immediate instance, and is particularly used when there is a sneak attack from the front. But, don't ever use it as a stance waiting for an attack nor with any fanciful stances for that matter in real situations. To be effective with this technique, the person must be able to resist a frontal push while standing on one leg. To achieve this, he has to spend long hours on the 'horse-stance'. The common term for this single-legged stance is Golden Cockerel Standing On One leg, Jin Zi Du Li (my romanisation of Chinese is not to be trusted, but it sounds somewhat like that in Mandarin). As I said earlier, this is a transitional technique and really what follows after is the interesting part.

- Q: Ever since a few weeks ago, these retarded giant mosquitos thingys keep on flying into my house from somewhere and they always come into my office and bother me, so im wondering what month they come and what month they leave?
- Crane flies tend to live in wooded areas and open fields, but they can live nearly anywhere, including snowy northern climates and desert lands. In order for their eggs to hatch and larvae to grow into adults, they require either water or damp, decaying material in which to lay their eggs, depending on the species. Crane fly larvae and pupae can be found in damp sod or compost piles, or under the decomposing leaves on the banks of rivers, streams, ponds or lakes. Crane fly larvae and pupae feed on decomposing material, grass and the roots of many plants. This makes them a beneficial insect, as they assist in the cycle of decomposition. Once they emerge in late winter or early spring as adults, after maturing over the winter, their primary purpose is to mate and lay eggs.

- Only if the proceeds benefitted a really good charity. I can make my own cranes with the origami paper I've got at home for free!
- Q: I remember it was either an anime/manga or a movie but a boy or girl makes a thousand paper cranes for someone who is dying (possible their mother). I'm pretty sure it's an anime. It's not the story about the little girl with leukemia, I know that. I also remember the little girl/boy putting them on the edge of the bed or something? It's not much to go by but if you can help me I would be eternally grateful.
- I know that there's a book called 'Sadako and the thousand paper cranes' but I'm not sure about the anime...
- Q: They're so big
- Big cranes come in peaces ans they use smaller cranes to build it
- Q: What is the standard weight of a tower crane for 1.6*1.6*3 and 1.6*1.6*5m? Kg?
- The standard weight of tower cranes for 1.6*1.6*3 and 1.6*1.6*5m is 500KG
- Q: The car weights approx 900 kg.Thank you xx
- Gravity acts downwards, force = mass x acceleration. Crane acts upwards at same force. As the crane starts to lift the car there is upwards acceleration that causes more force to be generated for a moment.
- Q: Around how much would it be to rent a crane to put a jacuzzi in my backyard.

- Q: We see lots of cranes doing some heavy lifting during construction. But how do they get so high up these buildings? And when construction is nearly done, how do they go back down?
- Depends on the building of course. Either a taller crane is brought in to lift them, or they're lifted by helicopter. And sometimes a building effectively builds itself, and the crane moves up with the construction platform after being constructed at ground level. Will still need a helicopter to remove it of course.
