Q: we build new home last year and now want to lay ceramic floor tiles. but the problem is our floor have cracks (one vertical crack line abiut 8 feet long). how we remove/repair these cracks so that after laying ceramic tiles no danger of these cracks coming again
The general problem with concrete is that it is a material that will be subjected to cracks. This is due to the tensile properties of the material, being that it is good in compression but not tension. Proper slab construction should include control joints, (groves in the floor which create a weak spot so that when the concrete does crack there is a control point as to where it will crack), there should also be expansion joints around boarders of the slab. With that being said here is what you can do in your situation. You can create expansion joints out of the current cracks by using silicone calk to fill them (though this is more of a improper form of expansion joint it is a valid quick fix) You want to make sure all parts of the floor are level, and if not use a self leveling mortar or concrete to achieve this. My advice for the tiling is to construct a floating tile floor, this will ensure that when the floor does crack again that the tiles are not effected by it. There are different products and ways to go about this, such as buying a product that incorporates a floating floor design such as snapstone, or create a floor system using something such as sand and fiberglass mat as a sub-floor. The second option may be a bit more painful and possibly not as cost effective in the long run. It is worth doing some research on different methods to see what will be most cost efficient and fits your needs.
Q: I want to replace my hardwood floors..My sub floor has some weak spots. Can I put a new sub floor over the top of the exsisting hardwood floors and put new floors over the new sub?I hate to have the mess of ripping up the old stuff. I know I will need to have the doors resized because this will raise my floors.
3!! What does this guy think you are going to use for flooring? By doing what you suggested, your floors would be 1 1/2 higher. But I do agree, that it probably isn't a good idea to just cover over a potential problem.
Q: I am considering having Karndean flooring fitted in my living room, does anyone have this? It's the wooden floor full plank design that I am interested in. What exactly is it, does it look good, is it hard wearing, are there any negatives points about it?
Karndean is a well respected manufacturer of vinyl both sheet and plank. Plank vinyl is almost exclusively for commercial use so I assume that your floor will be a sheet vinyl with a wood plank pattern. Karndean makes some of the best looking vinyl floors I have seen. The patterns are realistic and the textures match. It is sometimes hard to distinguish a high quality vinyl from wood until you walk on it. In comparison with other vinyl floors, there are no negatives. In comparison with real wood there are a few, such as lower durability. Vinyl cannot be refinished and look good after 80 or 100 years. It will hold up well though with good maintenance. You can probably count on 15 years. Vinyl is superior to wood in that it is not sensitive to water. All in all I am sure you will be satisfied with the appearance and quality of a floor like Karndean.
Q: Can you please compare sea-floor spreading with the formation of mid-ocean ridges?!

Q: I would like to create a dance studio in my house, and I was wondering what would be the best brand of sprung flooring. Also, what is the right type I should get; preferably something less expensive. I will be doing jazz, tap, acro, and contemporary technique. Thank you, I was just getting ideas.
I have a dance studio at my house and we used vanil flooring that looked like hardwood, it's a little slippery so I use rosin but it was much cheaper that Marley and when we sell the house we don't have to change the floor before we move! So it works pretty well and it gives enough so I don't get shin splinters or hurt my knees. The only thing is it's kinda rough so when you lay on it and do whatever it kinda hurts bare skin. You can find it at your local hardware store or flooring companies nearby, it's much cheaper than actual dance floors but not as good so you get what you pay for I guess.
Q: Real hardwood flooring or laminate? Why?We bought real hardwood and I'm starting to think it may have been a bad choice because I'm worried about our furniture moving and scratching it.
Real hardwood is best for resale, and if you love it. If you have a lower end house and neighbourhood, then go with laminate as you will not get the money back from installing hardwood. If you are not concerned with resale, then you need to pick what you love. You obviously liked the hardwood enough to buy it, so you must have done enough research on the maintenance and care of the flooring before choosing it. Yes you will get scratches, dings, dents..that is part of having wood. Do not use the nylon buttons on the legs of furnishings..they mark hardwood. Use the felt pads on every piece of furniture you own. You will have to vacuum all the time to keep grit off the floor. If you do not have any animals running in and out, then it will be easy maintenance. I have very high quality, expensive hardwood throughout my home and a large dog who runs in and out in all weather...I spend a lot of time cleaning the floors. Laminate is nice...low end and it will scratch too without the option of repair. You have already decided, so don't worry about it now...most places will not exchange hardwood...Oh, and when cleaning hardwood..never ever use vinegar on the floor. It will ruin your finish.
Q: How about the high floor?
Seat design flooring, design of the floor of the creator, the floor industry design master and color master!
Q: What can you do to fix laminate flooring that has started to buckle?
Replace the damaged boards. (if laminate floating floor boards.) This involves removing all the boards until you get to the ones that need changing though... maybe you could cover them with a mat or rug? If it is simple flat laminate, absolutely nothing can be done as the surface has stretched.
Q: I just bought a new Honda Fit, and I'm planning on buying floor mats online, but I can't decide between all-season/all-weather floor mats and carpeted mats. I do live in Ohio, so yes, we do get rain and snow, but I don't know, the carpeted floor mats look so nice! What do you think? If I get carpeted floor mats, will they just stain and be hard to maintain?
any floor matt is better than none, but i suggest you get the all weather ones because, the carpeted ones will eventually stain. If you spill in your car and have rubber floor mats all you have to do is spray them off with a hose and your fine. Rubber floor mats don't fade like carpeted do, and don't hold dirt like the carpet. I also agree carpeted look better but rubber perform better.
Q: Would it be awkward to have tile on both the floor & counter top? We have white cabinets, stainless steel appliances & I want medium brown floors & counter tops...would this be weird?
Not weird at all, its all in the look you like. They make many tiles called modular tiles that come both in 2 sizes , a big tile and a smaller tile. For example a 12x12 and a 6x6 tile, These work for a floor / wall combination just as your doing.Or you can do a solid surface counter top and a smaller tile on the back splash to go with the floor tile. You don t have to do it that way but they should obviously compliment each other. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
