- If the openings in the outlet are actually the same size, this is a very very old outlet. it probably has no ground, ie, it has two connections, not three. - There is a limit. The temperature of an electric arc (the plasma formed by an electrical discharge) is on the order of 10,000 C. This temperature is high enough to melt any substance known and to vaporize almost any substance known. - The limit is not in the number of outlets but the total watts. For a 15A circuit don't exceed about 1300W. (This allows for some length.) If it's outside, the light and outlet box must both be weatherproof. Buy only 'lights' and boxes UL Listed for outdoor use. You cable has to be outdoor rated as well. (Type 'UF' IIRC.) Those boxes need the proper 'outdoor' seals and fittings. (It's best if the cable enters exits the boxes from the bottom so there's less chance of water entry.)
- Q:Garbage disposal is wired into open electrical outlet down thru basement. Dryer is not vented outside, which is in the basement also, right next to this outlet. There is excessive lint from the dryer all over this open outlet that doesnt have a cover and the live electrical big thick white wire that you wire a house with is split down the middle then the raw metal part is inserted into each side of the outlet for the garbage disposal. If I pull this out to disconnect it will it spark? Shock me? Catch on fire? I want to do this because I am afraid it is going to catch on fire from all the lint. - Dryer lint is just like a fuel, very flammable. Make the landlord fix it. That is a very dangerous situation. If he won't, report the problem to your local fire department. They will see he does fix it.
