- Q:1. diode2. converter3. transformer 4. mercury-arc rectifierpl provide with explanation
- diode, true converter: vague term that can mean anything. AC-DC converter, DC-AC converter, voltage converter, frequency converter, etc. transformer, false mercury-arc rectifier, true But note that common use of the word transformer is as a power supply that generates DC from AC, so in that sense true could apply here. .
- Q:I am wondering what happens when you have accidentally connected the negative cables to positive and the positive cables to negative. I have boat that has to two marine batteries and i am wondering if you were to do this will it screw things up and break things?
- It depends on the details of how you mis-wired the batteries and what equipment you tried to run with the batteries mis-wired. Many devices have some built-in protection against reverse polarity, so there might not be any damage at all. If you mis-wired between the batteries, you could have damaged the batteries. If you wired them so that they were in series, you doubled the voltage on things that were connected. Light bulbs, starter motor/coil in the boat motor, electric motors will probably survive a short time in that configuration, but their lifetime is probably shorter now.
- Q:im a freshman in high school and was wondering if i wanted to become some type of electrician in the navy what classes i should be taking, doing good in? also what is it like being in the navy and does everyone get in i really would like to become an electrician in the navy do i still have time to improve and meet my goals?
- Don t issue it gained t be that undesirable. yet once you % training and education nicely thats all you will get. NO journey. What you're knowledgeable to do isn't what you will do. you will nonetheless could get a level once you get out. it is going to probley be quicker then later. All you may say once you're complete with the 4 years is that have been given your hands grimy and a few fancy identify. Oh and a cool uniform. flow get a e book at domicile depot approximately ordinary electricity.
- Q:I bought an appliance and it says I need a 15 amp NEMA (standard) outlet to plug it into. The picture looks like that of a household plug outlet, 2 prongs and 1 bar, but drawing is round instead of oval. Says if not available to call electrician. Are these the same (household outlet and the NEMA 15 amp)?
- Its a standard outlet, and can be used anywhere. If it shows only one outlet it could be saying that it needs to be dedicated but realistically any outlet that is in the laundry area of your home is already supposed to be independent of any other outlets. No big deal.
- Q:I was wondering this, as I'm a smoker and never smoke in the house (due to owning expensive computers and such).Would the vapor from an E-cig be safe around electrical equipment? I would presume no, since the water vapor instantly evaporates after being breathed out, as apposed to smoke which lingers around and is rougher than air, which overtime damages fans and circuitry it passes over. Thanks for reading.-Karu
- Over time it's possible the vapor would leave a film on surfaces, especially if it's got a high glycerin content. Ask anyone that vapes in their car with the windows up, eventually you've gotta break out the windex. It's not a haze like smoke leaves, it's a greasy film since it's glycerin and glycol.
- Q:I am confused about this figure because some equipments have 230 Volts AC (50 Hz) specified as their operating voltage while some others have 240 V AC (Hz). I practically measured the supplied voltage. It was something like 235 V AC. So I am confused about the standard figure. Is it 230 V AC or 240 V AC ?
- If you measured the supply you must be in India. Why don't you call the electricity supply people and ask them what their official figure is? You should also ask them within what limits the variation is controlled. The difference in the figure stated on an item of electrical equipment, i.e. 230 vs 240, is irrelevant. They all will have a margin, maybe plus or minus 10 or 15%, within which they will work satisfactorily.
- Q:i am currently working as a dog groomer, but i have been thinking of starting my own small business for a few years now. some ideas i had are dog walking, gardening services such as mowing lawns, weeding and planting, illustrations (i went to college for art), or hair cutting.are any of these ideas worth pursuing? what is required to start your own small business? if you started your own small business do you have any tips for me? how did you get started? thank you!
- I'll endorse you to devise an advertisement procedure for your business. In these days establishing a brand new business isn't that enormous undertaking but exact mission is to promote that industry in a greater approach. A trade which has scope to your field. Each time any individual thinks to new industry first he/she should take into account subject (nation, state and target patrons) then make a correct method for brand new industry.
- Q:By non related I mean like not a minor in another engineering or computer science. I was thinking about possibly business. What do you think would be the best minor that would give me a better salary/job opportunity?
- Business would be good for engineers. I majored in business and the hardest part was the math. Being an engineering major you would probably enjoy business. However, if I were you I would save the business degree for the day you decide to get your masters. You will get more out of it as an MBA degree. Why don't you minor in applied math? Since you already have all of those math classes under you belt. If you are a guy looking to meet girls you could minor in psychology, sociology, or communications. This is where all of the girls are. However, you would probably be writing more than you are used to in Engineering. I minored in Sociology and the classes were very interesting. I also found the classes to be very easy as well (if you like to read and write papers that is). It will boost your overall GPA. Also, these type of classes revolve around discussions from the reading and is more socially interactive. This may provide the balance that you are missing from the engineering classes. Minoring in English would also be beneficial for engineers. You know once you start working as an engineer you will be writing reports. I work with a lot of engineers and have found that they are very bright. However, they lack communciation skills and writing skills. So if you are looking to stand out of the crowd you should hone in on your writing and communication skills while in college. Most engineer managers have excellent writing and communication skills.
- Q:I just don't understand it, what does it mean when people say 3 phase or 2 phase Voltage, I know higher phases are used to power bigger more voltage demanding things but what does it mean? Can you get both AC and DC in each phase? Is phase just basically saying higher phase higher voltage for higher voltage equipment? How do you convert between phases? Are high phases created with the use of transformers or can they be created directly from things like wind turbines? What is the maximum and minimum phase? How does the phase effect the amps?
- First off you need to realize that AC power is 60 cycle sine wave that goes from positive to negative. (50hz in europe). With 3 phase power you have 3 hot circuits. The peak voltage happen at a different time on each of the 3 hot circuits. You can not have any phases in DC power because DC is a constant voltage, it does not cycle from positive to negative. Higher phase does not higher voltage. You term high phase makes no sense. It's either a 3 phase circuit or a single phase circuit. A single phase circuit is when you have just one hot wire. Like your wall outlet. Note that you can get a single phase circuit by just using one part of a 3 phase circuit. Phase does not affects amps. To make a 3 phase circuit from a single phase circuit you need a motor/generator.
- Q:I know you need fuses for cars, electrical equipments, etc. I don't get what they are really used for?
- Fuses and circuit breakers are used to prevent damage to an electrical circuit due to a short or overload. All circuits have at least a positive side and a ground (negative) side. If the positive and ground sides of the circuit touch each other the result is intense heat generated by the electrical current. The job of the fuse or circuit breaker is to stop the flow of electricity when an overload occurs in the circuit so excessive damage to the components of the circuit does not take place (wiring,computers,relays,etc.). All circuits are designed to carry a certain load (amps), DO NOT EVER replace a fuse with one of a higher rating(example: do not replace a 10amp fuse with a 15 or 20amp one) if the normal fuse blows there is a problem that needs to be located and repaired! I have seen MANY vehicles severly damaged because an owner or backyard mechanic replaced a blown fuse with one that was not the same rating as the one removed. I have seen burnt up vehicles from this action. If the fuse blows there is a problem, putting a higher rated fuse in WILL NOT fix the problem, it will more than likely cause major damage to the circuit or possibly cause a fire that will destroy the vehicle.
