- Q: I bought a used printer but it did not have the power cable with it, but I have an old power cable from another printer. The only visble difference in the cables is that the colorful end that goes into the printer has a plastic notch on it that is in a different spot. My old one has the notch in the middle where is I need it off to the left. Can't I just shave the notch off and have it fit?
- It's hard to say. Electrical equipment and parts are made for a specific reasons. Now, if you modify the power cable, it's possible that it may work. But, then again, there is also the possibility that it could do more damage than good. It will totally be your call.
- Q: Have a neighbor that is selling his van to an 80 yr old man. The van has serious electrical issues that go off and on. Just so happens it was working right when the buyer drove it. But almost everything in the dash goes on and off. Mostly it stays off. Is it legal for the seller to not be honest?
- No state has any return period for a private party vehicle sale. None. Not 3 days, 3 hours, 3 minutes, etc. If return periods existed on vehicle sales, we'd have people buying convertibles on Friday, returning them on Monday. If the 80-year old man did not have the van inspected by a mechanic beforehand, it's his loss. Any used vehicle transaction is as is unless noted to the contrary in writing. The seller doesn't have to say anything about the condition, and anything said is called puffery and holds no water in court. However, yes, karma will come around and kick this guy in the nutsack. **ADD -- I lived in TX and was in the business for awhile. No, it is not illegal for the seller to not disclose issues. The ONLY thing would be if the seller (private or dealer) did not disclose a salvage-branded title.
- Q: I want to wire all my regular recepticles with #10 wire which I know I can use 30 amp breakers with. Does anyone carry 30 amp 120 volt recepticles or can I use the 20 amp recepticles? I can't get anyone at Home Depot in the electrical department to answer the phone. Best answer with a link to this item (if it exists) gets ten points. Please not a lowes link. I don't care to do business with them as I can never get anyone in my local store (Nederland, TX) to help me, while Home Depot has bent over backwards and done cartwheels to help me. Thanks.
- You want a NEMA 5-30R receptacle but they're hard to find because virtually no one uses them. You occasionally see one on an RV. These receptacles aren't compatible with normal 15- and 20-amp plugs, so I'm not seeing what you're trying to accomplish. I'd just run more 20-amp circuits if you really need a lot of power.
- Q: I dont understand how charged particles in the sky would effect the electrical system down here.
- It wouldn't. The earth has a magnetic field around it to protect it from such things. The solar flare would have to be bigger than our sun is believed to be capable of. You shouldn't worry about science fiction nonsense.
- Q: I want to know how good of a shot I have if my MOS is for electrical power production or electrician, that I can receive the first duty station on my wishlist.Yes Im aware that the needs of the service come first.
- Army MOS 21P (Prime Power Production) is in high demand. Depends on what your duty station of choice is 90% of those with the 21P MOS are assigned between 4 different posts.
- Q: I'm a freshman in college in electrical engineering. I chose this major at random and so far, I hate it. I have no idea what people in my major CAN do, so when I go to job fairs, I look clueless to everyone there. The worst part is that I AM clueless. I've had companies ask me, what can you do for us? and I don't know what to tell them! Please help.
- Engineering is all pretty much the same, regardless of what one builds. Consider mechanical engineering. One can either build cars or fix cars. Being able to design engines takes a master's degree at least. Fixing cars can be something done with a trade school Associates degree. This is basically the difference between electricians and electrical engineers. Obviously there are many more jobs for the electricians. There is commercial contracting or residential service or any combination of the two. Of course, you will spend your career wiring circuit breakers and very little else. To get an idea of what an actual electrical design engineer does, take apart anything electrical. All those little chips are entire circuit boards. The little metal legs are power inputs and signal inputs/outputs. Larger circuits are built up from the chips. One has to be able to read the data sheet on the chip and then be able to build a circuit around it. This is far more complicated than replacing blown fuses and explains why design engineers need masters degrees or (preferably) PHD's. If you like building things and are comitted enough to endure the many semesters of math and physics required (besides the electrical engineering itself) then design engineering is going to be both enjoyable and very profitable. Of course, becomming a technician first and then furthering one's education is another route to becomming an actual designer. Remember, besides science, economics is also an issue and education is incredibly expensive in America because people refuse to fund affordable public education with tax increases.
- Q: How do I calculate (using mathematical equations) the load of my equipment to support and find the correct alternator and battery for my vehicle? I'm looking for an in-depth equation that explains what I have to find from the equipment specifications to the mathematical part evolved. I want to make the right choice for my vehicle without any word of some salesman to sell me a product with little to knowledge of the product they are selling.
- Ideally , you want an alternators output amperage to be equal to the maximum amperage draw of all of your amplifiers plus about 40 amps to run the rest of the electrical equipment in your car. So if your amplifiers draw 150 amps at full power you would want a 190 amp or larger alternator. If you can not get a alt. that large , extra batteries can help fill the gap. The rule of thumb for batteries is one cca of battery power per watt of amplifier power.
- Q: Examples include-Unplug your wireless router for 30 seconds and then plug back inUnplug all elerical cords for 45 seconds then plug back inWhy do they recommend a specific amount of time?
- Its like reset,
- Q: I am a freshman electrical engineering student and I have been given an assignment in which I have to write a 2 page paper about electrical engineering drawings. The paper has to include specific requirements for drawings in this field of engineering, any standards that are used, and any drawing codes that should be included in a typical drawing.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
- Certain groups like NASA, the US government, etc have specific requirements for all drawing including electrical drawings. Some engineering companies and industrial companies have standards as well. Basically any engineering drawing has to address to tasks to be done, the materials and equipment to be used, the codes and standards to be met, and any specific requirements that are over and above common practice. A specific requirement might be something like stating the color coding for wiring that could be unsual. Look at the results of a simple online search for more information.
- Q: After all, the whole point of ATEX certification is that it doesn't make a fire. One would think if you can safely use something in an explosive atmosphere you can use it on shabbos. By the same token a shabbos light should be safe to use in an explosive atmosphere.
- When I was in fourth grade, the science teacher taught us the physics definition of work and explained how it differs from the everyday definition of work Much like that -- Jewish legal definitions of Hebrew words do not always line up perfectly with the everyday use of English words that aproximate them. With electrical items, the prohibition of fire is only one of the prohibitions to be aware of for Shabbat -- off the top of my head, there is also boneh (building) and bishul (cooking) On the reverse side -- your logic does not hold in even the most basic English definition. It is only the Karaites that believe there is a Shabbat prohibition of fire, the normative prohibition is on making fire and putting out fire -- thus, there are quite a few devices used on Shabbat that are straight forwardly on fire (well, heck -- just think of the candles themselves!!!) A Shabbat lamp is simply always on - but has some cover to keep the light from bothering. Hopefuly, this whole structure is well insulated (I don't know -- never used one)
