- Q: I‘m tiling a bathroom counter and have all my supplies but not sure I purchased the right trowel. I purchased a square-notched trowel 1/4x1/4x1/4. What is the difference between this one and the one I see commonly used on tv and on other tiling jobs...the razor tooth edge type?
- The size of tiles makes a difference in the trowel, say if you where using a smaller trowel it needs less mortar or glue so you would use a smaller notched trowel, for larger tiles you use larger sized trowels, because of needing more mortar or glue to stick to . also they use different trowels with vinyl flooring as well. Id contact the place where you got the trowel and make sure you have the right 1 for the job your doing. hope this helps ........
- Q: I‘m redoing my shower and want a tile floor at least. The bottom of the floor is about 6‘x6‘. I either want big tiles or the smaller tiles that are already connected on the back of them. Ideas?
- Where I live we have a place that sells used house fixtures. They go to demolition sites and scavage everything that is usable. They resell it and the proceeds go to the Habitat for Humanity. You can often get very inexpensive materials there. Maybe your city has a place like this too.
- Q: We're remodeling our bathroom and looking for tile. Thanks in advance!
- I have seen prices on the web and yes you can get some good prices. BUT Shading for what you see in a picture is vastly different then actual products.... What I would do is to look on line for lines of tiles from a wide range of manufactures and use their store locater to find a dealer near you.I ve seen the way tile is shipped from some sources that are not used to handling tile and you could possible end up w/ chips. Plus your local store has a vast variety of knowledge of trims and what you ll need.. I did my GF s mom s place and we looked at tile to get ideas for her and narrowed down to tiles she liked. The on line price was more expensive than what the store was and what we payed .Any questions you can e mail me. GL
- Q: We had redid our cupboards a couple years ago and still have to properly cover the hole that was left for the vent on the previous vent system. It looks like they used staples of some type but the way it is just needing 1 and a half (or less) tiles it‘s awkward.
- Most ceiling tiles have a tounge groove so each tile fits into another. When you are piecing in tiles it's impossible to get the tounges in the grooves without breaking them. I would suggest, cutting off the tounges with a razor knife and install with Liquid nails or some other construction adhesive. To keep the tiles in place while the glue is drying, cut a 2X4 long enough and put it under the tile while the glue sets up. You might want to put a towell between the tile and the 2X4 to keep from damaging the tile. For the 1/2 tile, score the backside of a tile with a razor knife then break it in half.
- Q: Hi, I just wanted to know if Ceramic tiles are better than stone tiles? When we signed a contract for a new house, they offered us Stone tiles, but now they are calling us and telling that they do not offer stone tiles instead ceramic tiles are now standard. I wanted to know which one is better and why?
- Ceramic tile is cheaper than stone but we have installed ceramic or porcelain tiles in all bathrooms for the ease of upkeep. Stone does look richer but it needs to be sealed at least once a year maybe more. The sealing part is easy but the stone tile needs to be completely clean first. That is the 'hard work' part. Ceramic tile will hold up to almost anything in a bathroom and the grout is the only thing that needs sealing. (You'd probably have grout to seal with the stone too) If you signed for stone, I'd make sure that they are going to give you some kind of refund for the difference of the cost. They are saving a a few bucks here so make them pass it on.
- Q: Tiles 1 open 2 What does it mean ah?
- Is the brick symmetrical cut into two, generally on the wall effect is very good
- Q: Do I meet the edge of tiles with the edge of the actual OPENING/HOLE of an electrical outlet or the edge of the electrical outlet PLATE COVER?
- To the edge of the box. You will need to bring the outlet out (by loosening the screws) a little bit, so you can get the plate back on.
- Q: Dongpeng tiles and Europe Shennuo which cost-effective

- Q: The logistics of maintaining my marble tile should be an important consideration when choosing what kind of tile I wish to install. Acidic cleaners can etch the tile, which will then need to be repaired, so watch out for them. How can I Maintain my tile and keep it clean with the proper solutions once it is installed?
- you need to remove the old grout on the surface and re apply new grout to fix the problem, you can even get grout that is tinted to the colour that you like .
- Q: I am tiling my bathroom and in the process of re-tiling the shower stall. I removed the old plastic liner there and now some of the glue remains on the greenboard. Also, some of the green part of the board is ripped of from when the glue came off with the old liner. Some of the paper is flakey in spots. I pulled off some of the loose pieces, but there is more. Now, I‘m an amateur. I was told to use some grout sealer to go over the greenboard. However, since there are flakey pieces of paper from the greenboard on there still, should I simply remove as much as I can before sealing and tiling? Will the seal glue these flakey pieces down and make them secure for tiling? What is your advice? Many thanks!
- I have to agree with answer 1. I tile every day of my life, and while greenboard certainly should be used for the balance of a bathroom, I stopped using it around tubs and showers, years ago. Concrete backer board is an industry standard, is not more difficult to install, and actually aids in tile/mortar adhesion properties. While you have the walls gutted, you might add a vapor barrier as well. The issue with patching over the damage is that it may become just as degraded as the original substrate, and I suspect cause you to be unhappy. Steven Wolf Just my two sense
