Q: i have a 96 ford explorer and the bar snapped off what is that called and how much to fix it?
Front sway bar? Cost used 100, new 200, install about 50 bucks
Q: What are some cars that are very luxurious but arent really flashy. I can only think Escalade, Range Rover, Maybach, ect Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, ect I feel like are way to in your face.
The Escalade just screams bling. The Range Rover is much more classy and are great cars, my mom owns a 2010 one. The Maybach may not be super flashy but it is kind of in your face. Lambos, Ferraris, and Porsche's (with the exception of the cayenne) are all sports vehicles, not luxury. No one buys one of those brands for luxury. I would say some luxury, but not flashy, cars would be the Lexus LS and Audi A8.
Q: I put taller coil springs and new front struts on my 2wd and it‘s like impossible to compress the truck even on a large bump its so hard, I mean is this good or bad? It doesn‘t bother me but is it hurting anything?
struts. trucks. hmmmmm. those don't mix. suv maybe? any event, to stiff. wet road, she'll slip/skip in corners. unusual tread wear as well. other than that, kidneys will suffer. prolly develope cab/chassis squeaks. minor really if you need that ride to get the job done. thing is, that aggressive of springs might suggest you're fixing to over tax the running gear. axle bearings and such. really would have been nice if we knew the vehicle in Q. you didn't just do that to the front did you?
Q: A mechanic I was talking to said that anything over two inches will cause in havin to change many other things I was just wondering if anyone had an answers?
He is correct. The steering linkage will need to be modified, as will the driveline angle with more than 2. Even with only a 2 lift, the u-joints will want to bind some, and the steering linkage won't last long.
Q: if you have air ride/air bags on a truck and you want to haul something on a trailer, will it be bad for the bags, can it make them blow or what can go wrong, is it even bad at all?
air bags are plenty strong enough for towing, If you have the instructions there may be some air pressure changes that may help, They use air bags a lot on bigger 18 wheelers so I know for a fact they will work fine, since I doubt your hooking up 40 tons of cargo. In fact there are companies that make an air bag helper for towing, and air shocks have long been used for heavy loads.
Q: Ford part no, 10.0457-0853 0
do no longer restoration the air suspension convert it over to known coil springs. the fee and problems with the air isn't worth it you restoration the subject now and quickly some thing else with the air device will fail and it is going on and on .
Q: What do you think about a 1999 Honda Prelude?
I have the 98 model (base - not SH) and im actually in 2 honda prelude clubs here in southern california. The 97-01 Prelude's are great cars. They perform really well when you want to have some fun, especially the SH, for its year it was praised for having better handling then ferrari's of the same year. SH super handling, and it really shows. The only thing is that the SH ONLY comes in manual. There are no automatic SH models. If you find someone selling an automatic prelude saying its an SH, definitely not unless they (for some odd reason) decided to swap in an auto trans. That being said, if you CAN drive manual, get a SH model. Why? the auto's actually have transmission problems. I'm on my second trans, so are many members i know, some are on their 2nd or 3rd. Honda had a little design flaw with that 97-01 Prelude auto trans, you'll be fine if you don't bash on it all the time, but if you have a lead foot, go with the manual SH, much more reliable trans wise. The one you posted there isn't that bad actually. For still being under 100,000 around $8,000 isn't bad. but I'm sure you can get one for around $7,000 somewhere close to you. I do love my base model (Even with the auto trans problem) the performance is great, the car gets attention from people cause it looks really good too. The only reasons you shouldn't get the car is if you want to drive around more then 1 person all the time, because the back seat is pretty much non existant (even young kids complain). Overall i love mine though, trans problem or not, its a keeper. (and i have the trans under control - lighter driving and regular transmission service)
Q: i am looking to buy a new suspension for my jeep and i was wondering what was the difference between long and short arm suspensions. can anyone help?
This refers to the length of the control arms. Short arm suspensions use the stock location. This is fine up to about 3 lift. They are made up to about 4 These are cheaper than long arm kits. Long arm kits relocate the control arm pivot on the frame further away from the axle. This gives you a greater range in axle motion. This is important when you're at 4 or greater lift. Long arm also more expensive, but the benefits outweigh the cost if you need it.
Q: The front spring of a car‘s suspension system has a spring constant of 5.33 x 106 N/m and supports a mass of 296 kg. The wheel has a radius of 0.402 m. The car is traveling on a bumpy road, on which the distance between the bumps is equal to the circumference of the wheel. Due to resonance, the wheel starts to vibrate strongly when the car is traveling at a certain minimum linear speed. What is this speed?
The resonant frequency is W sqrt(k/m) or f sqrt(k/m) / (2*pi) So the suspension will be at resonance when the bumps come at a frequency of f sqrt(5.33 x 106 N/m/296 kg) / (2*pi) The period is given by T 1/f So the suspension will be at resonance when the bumps come every T seconds. The circumference of the tires is given by Circ 2*pi*r The bumps are that far apart, so the car needs to cover that distance every T seconds to set the car in resonance. V Circ/T
Q: The rear axle of the car is rubbed by the stone.
Hanging rub suggestions or go to 4S shop to see it, can not see the map can not say ah, after all, security is the most important
