You can use the Biot-Savart Law, but it is confusing and kind of a waste of your time and space. For straight wires, someone ALREADY worked out the Biot-Savart Law. The formula of interest for us is B = mu0*I/(2*Pi*r) where mu0 is magnetic permeability of free space, I is current, and r is distance from the wire carrying the current. B is the magnetic field due to that PARTICULAR wire. To deal with three wires, use a superposition principle and stack magnetic fields on top of each other. Do be aware of direction: remember the right hand rule. RH rule for magnetic fields in vicinity of wires: point thumb in direction of current, curl fingers to show the magnetic field circulation direction. Q: So earlier my passenger low beam wouldn't turn on. i went and bought a circuit tester and found out a wire located here _-_ lt;=== (the bottom right plug on the socket) that wire wont light up. i bought a socket at the same time, but i dont know how to replace it. and even if i did.. i don't see how that would fix the wire.It's possible the wire is fine. but i cleaned the socket and all that and still nothing.any advice would be great. i really need to drive at night1994 GMC jimmy
The wire that leads to your socket may be worn or damaged. Find out which wire is not working. Use a meter that has a sharp probe, so you can stab the wire with the probe and see if it is putting out the electricity, up the wire from where you put the socket on. If the wire is not working, but off the part of the wire that is not working and splice in a new piece of wire and attach to the socket. Hopefully this will help you.

Q: i want to install a new light in a old house.the problem is that there are three black wires coming out of he ceilng.the old light fixture has two black wires. two ceiling wires are connected to one fixture wire and the other ceiling wire i connected to he other fixture wire.i dont know which is the hot wire and which is the comon wire.also the new light has a ground wire ,2 blue wires and 2 white wires but, there is no ground wire coming out of the box. please help
You'll need a multi-meter to test which wire is neutral and which is hot. Technically you don't need to use the ground wire (green), but it would be a good idea for safety to run one from the box to the nearest ground (copper cold water pipe or the fuse panel). Sounds like your fixture has two light sockets? If so, you probably connect the 2 blue wires to the hot wire and the two white to neutral.
Q: But I want to switch it and wire the red ceiling wire to the black fan wire and the black ceiling wire to the black/white fan wire so that the particular switches work the way I want them to. Is this ok, to switch them?
Black wire on the fan is for the fan motor, red wire in the fan is for the light, the white wire is the neutral wire. So if you do want to switch the light off and on you have to tie red wire to the switch and the black wire can be tied to the hot at the ceiling box so you can control the fan with the chain only. If you have one switch leg in your circuit then you cannot do anything but switch them both if you tie them together. I think I am understanding what you are saying here. White Alyse ties to white Black is for the fan motor and the red is for the light. If you have three wires in the switch then you can tie them the same way color to color. Q: The spark plug wire on my dirt bike needs to be replaced because it was touching the exhaust and it burned through.I was wondering if the ignition coil and spark plug wire are one piece and need to both be replaced or is there someway to disconnect spark plug wire? They spark plug wire doesn't seem to be pluged in, but it seems to be one piece. Does anyone know?
