Q:My light switch has three sets of three wires (like conduit).. there are three black wires, three white wires, and three bare wires.. and I don't know how to hook up another light switch because it's near impossible to get three wires around a screw terminal. My boyfriend (works in maintenance) hooked a light switch up (one that you put the wires in a hole and then screw) except for the bare wire where two wires are under the screw terminal and the third is wrapped around the other two bare wires. The lights will stay on but when you turn the switch off, it kicks the breaker.. can anyone tell me why it's doing that? Thank you.
What it sounds like is happening there is that the switch box is the main feed for the room. You have a set from the panel, a set for the light fixture, and a set that are downstream, such as for an outlet. You need to determine which set is which. Then cut a piece of black wire and a bare copper about 8 long. This is how the connections are made: TURN THE POWER OFF. Then connect all of the whites together with a wire nut. Connect the new bare copper to the other grounds with another wire nut. Then connect the black from the panel, the downstream black, and the short black together with another wire nut. The black to the light fixture and the black pigtail (short wire) connect to the 2 brass terminals on the switch. The bare copper pigtail goes on the green screw on the switch. Reinstall the switch in the box, turn the power on, and check your work. If the light stays on at all times, but the outlets only work when the switch is on, those 2 wires are reversed. Turn the power off, switch the wires, and you should be good to go. Hope this helps.
Q:my radio was stolen i'm trying to put in a old radio in but when someone stoled my radio they cut the wires so now i can't tell what go,s where can someone please help? it's a ford f150 pu trck w/ 4 speakers i just need the wire color codes to hook-up,plus thy stole the manal to the trck too. please help.ty
who needs manuals. u should kno which is ur power and anteanna stuff if its just the speaker wires.. then simply touch them to each other and if it makes sound. then u have sound:)
Q:how we can predict the maximum load that stainless steel cable wire can achieved?
And if you refuse to believe the first answer, then Contact the manufacturer.
Q:How could you relate greater wire length resulting in greater resistivity to the context of home
Greater wire length will certainly give you a higher resistance. Since heat is measured in watts, and watts (W) =I^2R, where I=Current and R= resistance, then if you double the resistance of a wire (by making it twice as long) you also double the ammount of watts lost in the wire. Since watts equates to heat, this ammount of heat will make the wire hotter. If you use an extension lead, and wind it round a drum, it can get very hot indeed.
Q:circuit breakers,equipment,wire,or people
A fuse protects wire from an overload of ampacity, this can prevent fires and it prevents shorts in the system as well. So if you have a short it protects the equipment as well as wire but it can protect people from fires if there is short and a fire. so in essence of your question it protects all of the above in way or another. Some breakers in some cases are protected by a fuse such as in motor or motor controls as well. There are several different type of fuses in the feid today form ow voltage to high voltage fuses and different types too.
Q:I have a audiofonics adf-240 and I want to wire it to 1 ohm
To wire an amp to a certain ohm load depends on the speakers..... not the amp .... the amp just has to be stable at the ohm load you wire the speakers to.....but there's your next problem , that amp is NOT 1 ohm stable.... Its 2 ohm stereo and 4 ohm bridged stable.
Q:What are the effects on an amp when you use power/ground wires that are too small? I bought a set of 8 guage wires off of OKorder, and it stated they can handle up to 1000W. I'm using a Kenwood KAC-9103D amp, 500x1 @ 4ohms, 900x1 @ 2ohms, and 900+ x1 @1ohm (1800 W max power). My subs are Kicker VR8, dual voice coil, 4ohms, wired in parallel. Was it a mistake to go with 8 guage wiring? Should have I gone with 4 guage?
Using smaller wires will cause your wire to heat . As the wire gets hot conductivity decreases giving less current to the amp. It seems like you are spending some money for the equipment i would use a 4 gauge to protect your investment. I have seen people car catching fire because of bad audio wiring
Q:What fabric is the wire made of? What are the advantages and disadvantages?...
Metal wire fabric is the most popular natural memory folds and antistatic functional fabric defects: fine metal fiber, easy to disconnect, do not scrub, not dry after washing and drying. Do not rub the fabric, with a long time shielding value will decline, washing and folding is very easy to destroy its effect. Washing should take into account its heat resistance, so it can not use too high water temperature, can not use bleach containing detergent or washing powder for washing, so as not to cause fading.
Q:why do we use copper wires as connecting wires
copper has a physical property that is a very good conductor of electricity.
Q:My telephone doesn't work. No Dial tone. When I plug the phone into the box outside the phone works so that tells me it is the wiring going into or in the house. The phone repairman put in a new phone box outside because the old one wasn't accessible anymore (we accidentally built a porch over it) when he did that he spliced the wire going from the old box to the new box. The wires that he spliced hang down under the porch. There are 4 wires coming out of each wire, but only two are spliced together. Should the other two be spliced also? I'm thinking maybe they were but my dog has messed with them. The phone service went down all of the sudden and I don't really know anything else to check. Any ideas?
each phone line uses a pair of wires (2 wires) these wires would normally be green/red or blue/white and solid blue for line 1 and if needed yellow/black or orange/white and solid orange for line 2... you did the first step in troubleshooting to know that the trouble resides inside your home... so when you call into your line does the phone ring busy (or go straight to voice mail) or does it just keep ringing.... if it rings busy (or straight to VM) then there is a short on the line... this is possibly a defective phone, a phone that is off the hook, or a bad jack or wire... if the phone just keeps ringing, then there is a broken wire somewhere...... since the old NID is no longer accessible, you may need to run a section of wire from the new NID to one of the existing jacks in your home to back feed the jacks... if you do this i recommend disconnecting the wire that is going from the new NID to the old NID, as if you reverse the polarity you may end up shorting out your line with the new wire...
