Q: Or can stranded wire of the same gauge be subsitituted for solid wire without any consequences? The reason I ask is because its for a massive 4kJ capacitor discharge circuit, and I need all the energy delivered to the power coils im using, cant afford to have much leakage inductance.
Stranded wires have slightly higher inductance than solid wires, but this is noticable only on transmission lines and larger conductors. if you are only using a short conductor, i don't think the inductance of the wire will affect the system, unless the wire is coiled.
Q: I want to get an underground fence but i cant figure out what the difference in the wire they use and regular insullated wire. What is the difference and why can't i use regular wire instead of the wire that comes with the kit

Q: hello,i have lots of 8 gauge wire resting at my closet. And i'm very interested on doing the big 3 upgrade to my 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt. May i see any improvement with 8 gauge wire?...i know that at least 4 gauge is recommended...but i dont want to spend money.
Go cheap, get cheap. Improvement, maybe. But heres a secenario: current draw exceeds capacity of 8 gauge wire, insulation melts, positive wire grounds out, lots of smoke, fire.... no wait... FIRE! Oh s**t that's gonna cost me..... (a lot more than 4 gauge wire I'll bet...)
Q: I am trying to replace my cigarette lighter on my car. The replacement requires the wiring to to be redone. It has a terminal wire attached to it, but when I attach it to the wire on the car it doesn't work. After reading the reviews on the product everyone has said the wiring needs to be redone. What wires do I connect to what (Positive, negative, terminal). I am using product REPU506801.
You need to get a test light and find a wire under the dash or coming from the ignition that has power when the key is turned on. If you want the plug to have power when the key is off then you will need to find a wire that has power when the key is off. Once you find the wire make sure its thicker wire and splice into it.
Q: how are lights grounded on a car? Seems like all the wires to the light have electricity running to them.
Is somebody suppose to know what light you're talking about?
Q: I know that most wire is copper, however, I found this wire that is silver in color. So that got me to thinking, what other metals are used in wire, and, are they all non-magnetic?
Gold wire is sometimes used in the semiconductor industry. They could nickel and tin plate the copper in wires as either an identifier or corrosion inhibitor. All are non-ferrous although nickel has some magnetic properties. Aluminum was a failure in home wiring because of fire hazards, but is is used in some commercial appilications.
Q: On the wires leading to existing system I can see the main power lead. However all the other wires are different in color leading to existing valves. From the wire bundle two black wires (the only black wires) lead out to nothing and were left with no electrical end caps protecting. Manual says nothing on wiring valves. Any ideas on black wires? Or how can I splice in to existing system wires at valve point having one valve working at a time when system is operating? Am I going to have to get a new controler or run new wires existing controler?
As long as you have an extra colored wire and your controller will support the extra valve, it will work. I am wondering why you have 2 black ones though, unless one of them has a stripe. Normally multi-strand wire has only one of each color. To see a wiring diagram, follow the link below
Q: I just bought a set of performance sparkplug wires for my 2001 Chevy Cavalier. I went to install them and my engine is now misfiring like one of the wires in not connected. I have made sure all of the wires are on tight and in place. The wires did not come numbered so i just put them on according to size. What could be the problem???
I have to agree with striped tomato he's right on the money, It's ok to to put nthe plug wires on the way you did it (short to long) how ever you most have placed one of the wires in the wrong spot, just recheck your wires you will be back on the road shortly,By the way your coil pack should be numbered #1 cylinder is next to the coil pack The short wire , next to that is # 3 then #4 and the long wire is # 2.
Q: The light fitting I bought has 1x Red Wire (A) 1x Green Wire (E) and 1x Blue Wire (N)...
The green wire is just a ground wire, black is usually the hot wire, that would leave the blue wire as the neutral wire. The white wire in house wiring is the neutral. The two red and one black from your wall is not standard in the USA, but it may be 220 volts. What kind of light fixture are you replacing, is it on a ceiling fan?
Q: How much would it cost to replace the 4 gauge wire i have in my car now with 0 gauge wire?
When it comes to kits you do not want to go cheap. lesser names have a interesting way to measure wire, some of the smallest 0 ga. i ever seen. i attached a link to a place i personally use, and they have great cable, actually measures slightly higher than the electrical standard (i forget the standard name) any way the kit is $60. kit includes power wire, fuse holder, fuse, ground wire some connections wire ties, and split loom.
