- Q: How to remove the carpet floating Plush
- Vacuum cleaner brush
- Q: I have burned holes in my rug that need repaired. I have a piece of the same rug. Can this be repaired eaisly.....or best to call repair service.
- Cut a square piece of the rug out. Take an old pair of jeans. Cut out a square 1 bigger on all sides as the cut square of the rug. Use Elmers glue and glue the jeans square to the subflooring then put glue on the top of the square. Cut a piece of the carpet from the piece that you have the same size as the first square you cut out. Place it on top of the blue jeans square and press down to make sure it is totally catching the glue. Voila!

- Q: I have dark brown (medium chocolate, I'd call it) warm modern style leather sofa and love seat in a white room with 10 foot ceilings (I can't paint). The floors are oak, as is one book case (modern lines, arts and crafts style detail). The feet of the sofa are a dark walnut color. The accent pieces in the room will be yellow hues (artwork, vase, throw pillows). What sort of area rug should I get? Colors, patterns? Links to examples would be awesome. I'm getting more furniture, but I think the rug could really warm up the room. I'm concerned about getting something that looks too country or contemporary against the modern lines of the furniture.
- A rug with geometric motifs or pattern would be best to emphasize the straight lines found in the rest of the room... adding more straight lines in the rug would do so by repetition, and circles would accomplish the same but by contrasting against your straight lines instead. Look for a rug with beiges, browns, rusts, golds, and maybe some grey-blue or grey-green just to add some additional interest.
- Q: The pad is worn out under the carpet in traffic areas, but the carpet is fine.
- Yes, you can replace the padding only. I do it all the time. Especially when I have a flooded house or apartment. There are a few thing to remember though; Is the carpet to old or worn out to be restretched? Is the webbing intact, or is it crumbling and disintegrating? Take care when pulling up the carpet. The carpet is stretched over the nails in the tack strips which are angled to grasp and hold the carpet webbing (the mesh that holds the carpet together). If you yank the carpet towards you, it might tear the webbing. The best thing would be to release the tension by restretching with a carpet stretcher and pulling it up then. You're going to need a stretcher anyways to put it back in right? You can rent them fairly cheap at an equipment rental outlet. You can also rent the seaming kits for which to join two pieces of carpet together which you might need if you have to separate any pieces to remove a section. Seams are usually in doorways and such. If you do remove a piece, put it back in the same direction it came out. Don't turn it. Good luck then.
- Q: The carpets in a house we placed an offer on are ick. Well they don't smell and most of the stains I think will clean out but they eventually need to be replaced. But due to other costs we have to address first we want to clean them. Is calling a professional steam cleaner the best way to go? Does steam cleaning really do a good job? We have shampood carpets before with horrible results.
- Twice a year or more often if booboos happen. Yes, the better companies have the equipment to suck that moisture back out of the carpet. Trained operators know how much moisture can be put down. Homeowners can put down too much and rot the carpet or create mold on top of the pad.
- Q: I need to replace my 45 year old carpet. It is showing it's age. But one thing that has never been done is having it re stretched. Not one wrinkle. It lays as flat and tight as the day it was put in. So this beings up the question. quot;Should a properly installed wall to wall carpet ever need to be re stretched?quot; I have noticed many carpets in newer homes that are all wrinkled. And many people I've talked with after installing carpet need to have it stretched again, sometimes more then twice. Is this an inherent problem with what the carpets are made of now days? By the way my carpet is wool.
- As your 1 st poster stated, even the best of carpet or the best of installed carpet could possible need a restretch. Its rare but it does happen. You had a good carpet in wool and the backing when that was made is much different than the ones made today. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. gL
