- Q: Has anyone ever tried using oxyclean or any other cleaner that would work good or produce the same results as with the Rug Doctor cleaners?
- Problem being! Most rug cleaning machines can't handle sud's. If oxyclean sud's up it can destroy the machine. I don't know about mixing them...I have...used Downy in those machines to soften my rug and get rid of static.
- Q: whats a good inexpensive stream cleaner that will make my carpet look like new again! we moved into our apartment almost a year ago and it was a very rainy muddy day, ever since my carpets have just been plain nasty looking, its only the livingroom and diningroom though. - I decided last year to do that very thing and researched carpet steamers and scrubbers on Consumer reports. Their finding was that NO home carpet cleaner was even close to the cleaning power of the rental steam cleaners that can be rented at grocery and pharmacies. (They did advise to inspect closely for worn or dirty units). But beyond that - they said that having Stanley Steemer out was far beyond the cleaning of the rentals. That's what I did, and I have to agree, having used both rental steamers and an older home carpet scrubber at our own home and on rental property carpets.
- Q: so i accidentally got some nailpolish on my carpet any ideas for how to get it out?
- It is simply amazing how often nail polish makes it onto carpet, or furniture, instead of nails, lol I'm afraid the attitude towards nail polish is entirely too lax... here is why... Carpets these days are made of synthetic fibers.... and when you try to use nail polish remover to remove nail polish, it WILL DAMAGE THE CARPET FIBERS. This results in fibers melting (chemically) or being permanently stained! Nail polish removers often contain Acetone. Acetone is a very harsh and effective chemical stripper -- it will not only damage carpet fibers, but it will also damage vinyl tile, and wood finishes of all sorts. I'm afraid your best bet at this point, is to try to scrape the nail polish out, or have that section of carpet removed, and replaced. A good carpet tech can patch the section for you, but it may still be a noticable patch. Unless you want to make a habit of cutting holes in your carpet, I'd advise a little more care when handling the nail polish, heheheh ;) Good Luck

- I think you mean Berber carpet. Why don't you simply go to a carpeting warehouse place and see if they have remnants and get them to bind the edges and then lay it down on the good carpet as a large area rug? I did that one place I lived and it worked out quite well. I also went to a place like Bed Bath and Beyond and looked for large area rugs that they have for kids going into dorm rooms and bought two rugs and laid them over my carpet. They were good for several years and when they got bad I rolled them up and threw them away and unrolled some new ones. I think they ran about $30 per rug.

- The cleaning of blanket One, if blue ink drops on the carpet, use rice to rub immediately , then use detergent washing powder to wash. Two, if the red ink drops on the carpet, use alcohol to wipe, and then use detergent to scrub. Three, if there are old ink stains on the carpet, use milk to soak it, then use brush to dip milk to wash repeatly. Four, if there are oil stains on the floor, use brush to dip strong brine or gasoline to wash. Five, if the shoe polish and paint dirty blankets, use banana oil or gasoline to wipe, then use detergent to clean. Six, if the blood drops on blanket, use cold water to scrub, then use salt or lemon juice to scrub. don't use hot water because blood will solidify when it meets hot water. Seven, if tea or coffee stains smear carpet, then use glycerin to spread on it, next use a cloth to dip warm water detergent to wash Eight, soy sauce, vinegar, milk, ice cream, and drink dirty blanket, use cloth with warm water, then squeeze and absorb water, use alcohol to wipe. Ninth, if water stains dirty blanket, use 8% concentration of ammonia to soak the sewage and then use brush to dip ammonia water to scrub.

- Q: So I have this cheap $20 rug from walmart thats teal. I did away with it for a while but now that I want my room redone, I want a black rug to go in front of a futon. How would I go about dyeing this rug instead of buying a new one and leaving this one to collect dust? It has a plastic wired bottom to hold the rug together and to act slip resistant. Would dyeing it affect it?
- Whether dyeing would work depends on what fibre it's made of. If it's wool or cotton, it would dye quite well with ordinary dyes, though it might present a few difficulties since dyes usually call for being heated, and a lot of rinsing after. If it's a synthetic fibre, which it very likely is, it might not dye at all because synthetics don't absorb dye very well, if at all. If they do, they usually require processes that would be very difficult to achieve with a rug, such as heating the dye bath with the item in it. All in all, it's probably not worth even trying. Find a cheap black rug to buy.
