However sun rooms get very hot and cool whitelight coloured tiles are very welcome on the feet. I take it the sun room is in direct access to the garden if this is the case tiles are easier to clean than wood. What product should I use? Any information will be appreacated.: Sounds like whoever installed the tile did not use floor tile, they are the same color top to bottom, throughout. The tile you now have sounds like wall tile and only has the coloration on the top of the tile. You have two possible solutions to this problem. Replace the tile, or a cheaper fix that will not be permanent, is to finish the floor with semigloss polyurethane which will also wear out. High gloss will be very slick when wet, but depending on the sheen of the current tile you may decide to use that instead. The polyurethane will slightly change the color of your floor, and should be considered when you make your decision.

Q: i‘m thinking about laying my own tile. ( this way i could save $2700) yeah, i know its a pain int he butt. BUT i‘m still going to do it because i like doing my own work. I‘m laying down 24x24 tiles. do you have any advice or secrete or techniques to offer? its a straight edge tile so i was thinking about using no spacers. I was also told to spread thinset on the tile in addition to the cement floor.: Yes, 24x24 square edge tile is very accurately sized and can be laid with 1/16 joint. But only with careful attention to every detail. The slab needs to be dead on, less than 1/8 in ten feet variation. If a 10' straight edge placed on the slab has a space of more than 1/8 under it you will need self-leveling mortar. Flat trowel the back of each tile with thinset just prior to setting it. Move the notched trowel so all the ridges are parallel. Do not move the trowel in random directions. You will trap air under the tile and when you try to level them thinset will ooze out and make a mess. Try to apply thinset with the accuracy that once the tile is set it doesn't need to be adjusted. If the floor is flat, the thinset is consistant and the tile is accurate, you can't help but have a good floor I would reccomend at least 3/16 grout. Finish the grout as flat as possible, with new sponges and minimal water. Pre-seal the tile before grouting to make clean-up easy.

Q: I have a basement about 25X25 does anyone know how much it would cost to put vinyl tile down?: Is the floor sealed properly to prevent moisture from causing tile to lift after installation if not it could cost double the amount assuming that the calculation is correct. I can only assume that 25x25 is in feet so that would be 625 square feet. self adhesive tiles may not stick well to cement so applying glue then the tiles might be a better idea. I am not sure about the price but the last time I checked these where less expensive then the self adhesive tiles. Personal I would consult with the folks at the hardware store talk to one of the older ones as they would have more experience. They will also help you estimate the cost so you can consider the value of your purchase before you decide proceed!

Q: Want to put ceramic tile floor down in bathroom. It has a lanolium floor now. What is the best way to prep, in order to have a good tile job.: Hi, you need to pull the linoleum up first. Than scrape the loose mastic off the floor, sand it (you don't want an uneven surface) and wipe up the dust and dirt. Than you can start putting down your tiles. Make sure you leave a window open or the smell of the mastic will leave you high as a kite, and you don't want that! Bye

Q: I rent but we have cracked a couple of white kitchen counter tiles. Is there a quikfix alternative to replacing them? We realize the solution would be cosmetic.: Unfortunately, matching white anything is usually difficut. There are hundreds of whites. Also, many tiles discolor over time. Buy replacement tiles from several places (returning should be no problem w/receipt). In spite of what the flooring specialist stated, there is no need to buy a grout SAW (not called a grout chisel). Since the tiles are already cracked, you can pry them out with a screwdriver, putty knife, etc. Install the new tiles with premixed mortar/grout (she was correct about that).
