Q: I have hot water radiant heat in a concrete slab that leaks occasionally so I can‘t put carpet on it. Do I dare put ceramic tile over it? Maybe the tile would keep the moisture down.
You may want to make the first answer the best answer now because you probably won't get a better one. Covering it is a short-term fix and the moisture will continue eventually not only forming mold but the tile will come up.
Q: Imloking to buyy subway tile for my bathroom demo. any ideas where I can get it for a discount/
www.okorder . Go there, go to your city, do a search of subway tile or go to the materials, household, or furniture sections. We are using craigslist to redo our bathroom!! Have fun!
Q: Hi Folks,Currently I have a bath tub with a vinyl shower surround. I‘m considering removing the shower surround and replacing it with tile.I‘m just wondering how big of a job this is? I‘ve never tiled before but consider myself handy and have done plenty around the house.Of note, I don‘t believe proper backboard is underneath the surround so I‘d have to put that up also. I‘ve put drywall up in the past so I think that part should be ok.So...is this a do it yourself job? Or is this something that needs to be hired out for. Seems like it should be simple, but maybe I‘m missing something and it gets complicated or difficult to make come out nice? Also, how long should this take if I did it myself (days and hours per day) and how long before I can start using the shower again. Thanks!
You can cut the edge of the tub off and lay the tile right to the top surface of the tub, leave a small gap for grout or caulking. make sure that the backer board is to the edge too. A sawzall will work with a fine blade. You will need to be careful when ya cut though. You can use thin set but there are different grades, use the more expensive one with the polymers in it if you want it to last for decades. You can also fur out the wall half inch or so to make up for the difference at the top of the tub, this will bring the backer board out to where you need it, where it is even with the top of the tub.
Q: anyone know this kind of tile? How durable is it? is it suitable for wall or floor?
I okorder
Q: I went to the Home Depot website and for instance, baking stones are like $25 each. I heard that some flooring tiles do the same job, though some of the types (like terracota) can expel some poisonous gases when heated; also, that I should avoid enameled tiles or anything with coating.Should I get a baking stone instead?Thank you.
complicated matter check out at yahoo and bing this could actually help
Q: tiles at the top of my pool have fallen off, these tiles are in the water. what is best or suggested adhesive to reinstall them?
If you are redoing your tile,it means they have fallen off from one of two things: 1)movement.....clean the areas where tiles fell off with alcohol, then use silicone to put tiles back on and colored silicone for the grout....wipe excess silicone off tile face with scour pad and dish soap..looks fantastic and gives a little with movement! 2)water got behind tile..you must first fix mastic around pool or area where water is getting behind tile, then put tiles back on as above....the area must be bone dry before you atempt to put tiles back on....alcohol helps dry and clean..
Q: Ok so my 17 year old SIL decided to clean the grout in our entry way using STRAIGHT bleach last night. I came home to find the ceramic tile COVERED in bleach!! Now, after mopping several times I still haven‘t been able to get all the bleach up AND our tiles are stripped!!! Any tips on getting the bleach up and then resealing? Total novice here and desperate for any kind of help!! Thanks!!
You must have very porous tile like unsealed porcelain or terra cotta. What you need to do is rinse it very well to make sure no bleach is left then seal the tiles. Home Depot has tile sealer (not grout sealer - but you should get that too and use it AFTER you seal the tile). First get a terra cotta sealer and apply that. When it repels water that's sprinkled on it you can proceed to seal the grout. Get some penetrating grout sealer (Tile Lab makes a good one that HD carries) and apply that. It's easy. You just wipe it on let it sit a few minutes then wipe off any that hasn't soaked in. Apply 2 or 3 times until it repels water and you're good to go.
Q: I need to measure my tiles to get them cleaned but they all need the size in squares how do i do that, thanks in advance
In constrution terms a square is 100 sq ft.But that's pretty much only used for roofs.I think what you need here is a measurement in square feet To get it just measure the floor both ways and multiply. I.e. If the room measures 10 Ft X 10 ft then you have 100 sq ft
Q: Please don't say wood/tile please say wood/tile is cheaper so I know exactly what you mean, lol. Does it depend on what kind of wood? I assume it does..For just the first floor, 1,040 sq. ft. THANKS!
Hi, I'm Nick the Tile Man As time goes on tile will be your best bet. I would invest in a good tile so it will last and look good all at once. My web site has info for both tile and wood floor. Just click on the ads for information. Good Luck
Q: For some reason I‘m having a hard time finding a good DIY instruction page on how to remove floor tile. Half of them are about removing just one damaged tile and the rest all have different methods. Some say to place a towel on top of it and smash with something, others have different machines. I‘m not really sure where to start. The space is about 5‘ x 5‘ and the tiles are the tiny kind, like 1 sq. inch each. What tools do I need? Do people usually tile underneath wooden vanities? Will I have to take it up? Help!
First stop should be a Home Depot or Revy or whatever building supplier you have near you. They will know and have the tools you might need and could give good advice on the easiest removal. Unfortunately there are no magically easy ways to do this. If you are able to attack an edge, good for you. Use a good, sturdy scraper. Perhaps even one that you will be able to use a hammer on the end of. Then it is just simply a matter of elbow grease and determination. Actually, a 5' X 5' space will come off fairly quickly once you get started. If you are not able to start at an edge, you will have to make one by chiselling out a few tiles until you can get your sturdy scraper working again. just scrape a few grout lines and pry out some tiles. Please wear safety glasses and gloves throughout this whole procedure. These things will chip and have very sharp edges. The next part is to be sure that you scrape off all of the thinset (glue) that was holding the tiles down. You are now almost ready to re-tile, if that is your goal. If it is, then just be sure that the area is solid and clean and you are good to go. As for tiling under a vanity . . . some do and some don't. New home bulders certainly don't in order to keep costs down. It certainly is not necessary as long as the vanity will be the right height after you are done. There could be a 1/4 to 1/2 inch height difference due to the thickness of the tiles. Hope this helps. George
