- Q: What is the best tiles?
- Buddy, you said too general, and here simply say, interior decoration tiles must use all-ceramic tiles, tiles first glass polished tiles (anti-skid, wear, anti-penetration, easy to clean, etc.) (The color of the new, three-dimensional sense of strong, followed by wear) the most sub-microcrystalline stone (expensive, not wear-resistant, non-scratch (The price is high, durable, atmospheric) glazed tiles (the color is more, the price is right, with the most) antique all-ceramic cut on the wall (unique style, durable and durable )
- Q: HI ,THIS IS MY FIRST TILE PROJECT. I AM INSTALLING A BACKSPLASH ON SHEETROCK USING 4.5X4.5 PORCELAIN TILES. USING OMNIGRIP MASTIC APPLIED WITH A 1/4 X 3/16 V-NOTCH TROWEL. THE TILES HAVE A WAFFLE BACK. MY CONCERN IS DO I HAVE TO FILL IN THE WAFFLE DEPRESSIONS,WHICH SEEM TO BE 1/16 DEEP,BY BACK BUTTERING PRIOR TO APPLYING TILE TO COMBED MASTIC. ALSO, IS THE TROWEL SIZE CORRECT?P.S. WHY DO SOME TILES HAVE A WAFFLED BACK AND SOME A PRACTICALLY FLAT BACK? THANKS!
- you must change your space for your kitchen space first
- Q: Anyone have any experience with using glass mosaic tile as the kitchen counter material (not just as the backsplash)? This would be for a lightly used area of my kitchen counter by the sink - not the primary work area. Would love to hear any pros and cons. Thanks!
- Great question. I install custom high-end tiles and I retailed such for many years. I have to say... just about every answer to this quesiton that I have read thus far is incorrect. If you do choose to use a glass mosaic tile, be sure and use one that is manufactured by a reputable company. I recommend Bisazza... IT IS GLASS, sold in the US, and its found in many European countries in social areas where people actually walk! Anotherwards, it is very durable, difficult to scratch and when installed correctly, nearly impossible to break. Also, with a glass mosaic tile, you want to be sure and use an epoxy grout. These grouts are much more difficult to install but will not stain, fade, or change color... EVER. As for cons... the first would be price. Bisazza starts at $8.00 a sq and that would be for a very basic looking glass mosaic tile. Also, if you're paying for the installation, contractors do get more money for installing glass... you need an installer that has experience installing glass (not just ceramic tile)... very important. Lastly, most contractors also get more money for installing the epoxy grouts... but whether you use glass or any other kind of tile on a COUNTER TOP, make sure you use epoxy grout so you don' t ever have to worry about stains and maintenance of your grout. I say if that's what you want... pay for it and do it. Tile installations are already costly and it's worth paying for what you want. I just can't stress enough that you want to use good material, a tile setter that is well-experienced working with glass, and an epoxy grout. Good Luck
- Q: I just bought a new houses that we will build. The decorator went through the selection of tile and want to charge us $9000 for 1500 sf surface and $6800 for a group 3 granite counter top with island. It feels a little pricy. Anybody have experience with new builder and want to expect for flooring and granite counter top?
- Granite can be pricey but I would suggest taking the time to get several estimates for both. Some tile contractors can get you good prices depending on their connections but check references first. Go with the price that is more middle of the road.
- Q: Hexagonal tiles of side 20cm are used to tile a room that measures 6.25m by 4.85m. Assuming we complete edges by cutting up tiles how many tiles are needed?
- First you need to get the square of the room by multiplying the lenght and the width...6.25m x's 4.85m Then convert that into cm. Next do the same thing on your tile and divid that with your floor and that will give you the # of tiles....I may be wrong here but here we go.... 6.25 * 4.85 = 30.3125 *100 = 3031.25 sq cm ROOM 20 * 6 = 180 sq cm TILE 3031.25 / 180 = 17 tiles I am sure that this is off I would suggest if a room is 12 x 18 ft giving 216 sq ft and a box of tile at a 1.5 x 1.5 at 9 tiles each box at 20 sq ft would be about 11 boxes Another soulution is to goto the hardware store and ask the tile pro to tell you how many you need and give him the measurements lol
- Q: help!! i need an estimate of ANY italian tile... like the cost per sq. ft. i really need it for a project!!! please make sure the tile works for the entire house (only inside) and light colored nothing dark plz and thank you =]
- hallo? .. u're asking for help, but not giving specific information. tiles are different range from price, quality, and size -even its italian tile ... how to calculate? we need to get down to your floor plan, and choosen of tiles, my dear ...
- Q: If I start in the middle, I will have to cut tile for both sides. I think I should start in the upper right corner, but my neighbor seems to think it will look out of balance.
- Start in the middle. That's where the eye naturally strays. The edges, or corners will blend in. Yes, you may have to trim the pieces on the edges, but, it will be balanced from the center out. Good Luck!
- Q: Remodeling a bathroom, using 4x4 ceramic wall tiles and have an old porcelain wall-mount sink.QUESTION: Do I put screws through the tile and put the mount OVER the tile, hanging the sink that way OR do I hang the sink on the untiled wall and tile around it?Thanks for your help!
- 1-locate studs / eye balling as well for centering of bracket 2- cut hardwood strip to match wall mounting bracket' {2x as thick as tile, this allows for a good thick bead of caulking counter sunk, so to speak around behind the sink, thus hiding the sealer /after step #10 } 3-drill screw strip to wall, being conscious to : set the screws so they are offset to sink bracket's screw placement. 4- attach wall bracket 5- practice hang sink/ checking the fit 6-NOW, draw a pencil line tracing the sink 7- remove sink 8-TILE TIME [LOL] Now you can tile up to the bracket [wasting tiles].NO! Now it gets easy! This method reduces your tile cutting. 9- Tile the wall, using FULL tiles up to the pencil mark {if it is :LESS than 1/2 a tile to the Line , slap a full tile on , if you want 10- { 1/2 a tile inside the trace mark is plenty, if you don't want to be bothered cutting you don't have to . Note: Leave the edge here , till your done all your other tile ,'cause you might have good 1/2 or 3/4 pieces that you can trim it with}...Or just go back and put full tiles to cover. Hope this helps! ..hang sink, caulk top, done!
- Q: i want to use broken tiles for flooring in the balcony. what is the procedure?? and how do i start??please suggest.
- I suggest that you first prep and fill your concrete and let dry. Next you should lay out some tile pieces on an area near your starting point fitting the pieces together like a jigsaw puzzle. Next spread some tile mastic over an area equal to the size of the area where you have laid out tile pieces that fit together. Next, quickly set the tiles in the mastic in the same pattern that you had them laid off to the side leaving at least about 1/8th gaps between the tile pieces. When you are finished, scrape off any mastic that does not have tile set in it. Repeat this process until you completely cover your floor. Allow to dry for a day and then fill the cracks with grout. Allow the grout to dry for a day and then do an acid wash to remove the grout residue.
- Q: Hi, I`m planning a bathroom remodel soon, and I want to use the same floor tiles as before - they are beautiful! But I just can`t find them anywhere (we bought this house recently and the previous owner did the remodel, and we can`t get hold of him any more). If anyone recognizes them, I`d be really grateful if you could point me in the direction of where to find them. Thank you SO much!Further info: the tiles are a fraction under 4 square and are a kind of gray-based quartz or granite (not sure of the difference, sorry!) with flecks of aquamarine and blue that give it an overall pale blue hue. They sit between plain white tiles with the corners shaped to accept the smaller blue squares.I`ve looked in Lowes, Home Depot, Amazon and online but so far no luck :( !
- You will have to contact a company and request a catalog of their tiles that they manufacture. After a run of tiles are made the next run will not be the exact same to match. It's very possible that no manufacturing tile company is still making the tile. With the wear and glaze that the tile has it would be impossible to get a match. I suggest that you shop for tiles that will enhance and blend with what you have and you may even use hard wood and tile aquamarine color that will pull the color hue from your present tile. The hardwood and tiles are beautiful. Hope this helps. Interior Decorator. Jo Ann
