Bag less have much more suction. Most of us empty them after every use because you can see the dirt/pet hair and such or at least right before we use them so you're always getting maximum performance and suction. 2. Cost and availability of the bags. 3. One would go broke if you changed bags every time you used the sweeper! And after about the first 5 minutes of a fresh bag, the filter paper is partially clogged and there goes your suction down the tubes. 4. Because we empty them more, stinky sweepers are much less likely. How I empty mine to minimize the dust issue is to place is all but in the bottom of a 13 gallon trash can I keep on the enclosed back porch just for that purpose. It was an extra I had hanging around. I keep a trash bag in it also. I pop the latch and the high sides on the trash can keep a large part of the debris right in there. And filtering technology has changed a lot and gotten a lot better over the old bag vacuums. Several manufacturers are doing the cyclonic thing now. Dyson, of course, but Bissell has their version for 1/2 the price. This action spins more of the dirt out of the air stream moving through the machine, deposits it in the collection cup and your suction stays much more powerful. Nope, ain't going back to that hassle or additional cost all the time.
