Q:and which is best: It depends on what you want in a vacuum cleaner. Bagged cleaners are usually easy to empty, don't need internal cleaning, and bags are fairly inexpensive. However, the dust that collects in a bagged cleaner begins to block the airflow, resulting in lower efficiency as the bag fills. Bagless cleaners have a compartment that can collect debris that sticks to the sides over time, needing the occasional extra maintenance. Also, bagless cleaners usually contain an air filter that must be replaced occasionally. However, if regularly cleaned, the filter can last for quite some time, and it's more efficient in the long run. To nutshell: Bagged cleaners are good for quick and cheap. Bagless cleaners tend to be more powerful and efficient over a long lifetime.

Q:Has anyone purchased one of these outrageously expensive vacuum cleaners? We have a yellow lab that sheds like crazy. We have a horrible time with vacuum cleaners. We have had Dysons and just had one die on us. Does anyone have any feedback on these vacuums?: we have a Miele Blue Moon. We also had a very hairy dog. But we bought it because of allergies. it picks up and keeps dust mite droppings which no other vacuum does. but you have to change the HEPA once a year for it to do that. The bags and hepa are rather costly but we have had it 9 years and it works great. The only other tip I'd give is keep the height setting one setting higher if you find it is overheating when you vacuum. we have shag carpet so it was overheating the powerhead set at 1. We love it and it definitely works better than the less expensive models.

Q:Has anyone with pet allergies tryed the Hepa Air Cleaner? How well does it work?: I have one and the people in my house who have allergies don't seem to react...

Q:I have a dog who sheds like no tomorrow and my current vacuum doesn't cut it.: My Dyson is everything to me with four kids and two dogs that shed so much I am shocked they aren't bald. The first time I turned it on, the first thing I noticed was that it didn't shoot dirt and grit out the back like every other vacuum I have ever had. If you have pet hair on furniture though, the best thing to do is grab your textured cleaning gloves and rub in a circular motion. This action balls it up and you just pick it right off.

Q:when you turn it on the brush should spin when you vacuum but it doesnt and when i pick the vacuum up it starts spinning..?: maybe you have it set too low to the floor. sometimes they have a height adjustment thing on them

If you can, go to the library and look at Consumer Reports recent issue..maybe October 2006. They rate different vacuum cleaners and give advice on cost, models to best suit your needs ( upright vs. canister, bagless vs. bag, self propelled, dust removal, and so on). You can look up Consumer Reports online, but I think they charge. In my experience, Hoover has some good ones and some really bad ones. Dyson is good if you have the cash. And you need no special bags or tools. Bissel is OK and has small inexpensive models.
