- Q:so I can have a wall basket
- Most if not all wall anchors will have a weight rating on the box, so just pick one that can support the weight you intend to be hanging. As noted in the previous post, the ones that expand inside the wall and grab from the back side will have higher ratings and be the better choice. Al
- Q:Can you tape and plaster joints only on plasterboard? IE not skim whole room?
- Yes, you can. You will find that the plaster board will soak up more paint that regular drywall. This is because there is a special paper on the plaster board that allows the plaster to stick to it. Plaster board is sometimes called blue board, and you'll know why when you look at the two side by side. When you get ready to paint, you might want to consider two coats of primer.
- Q:I had to have the other walls rebuilt because they were so bad & I'm worried if I remove the wallpaper the plaster will fall off & new plaster won't stick to the crumbling walls. So I'll plasterboard strait over the wallpaper. Good idea or bad idea?
- When you say plasterboard, do you mean sheet rock or actual plaster where wooden batting has to be applied first? Well, either way, if the wall under the wallpaper is not stable, it could very well interfere with the new wall staying securely in place. However, if you put up new plasterboard with long enough screws to purchase into the studs of the walls behind the original walls, then it will be stable and keep the crumbling wall in it's place, I suppose.
- Q:y good?
- For years the traditional method of insulating walls in an existing home was blown in cellulose. This created some pretty sizable holes in the side of the house that were then plugged. Eventually, re-siding is the only way to restore the cosmetic appearance of the home. If spray foam is used it must be a slow-rising foam to allow gravity to pull it into the cavities before expansion. In general, spray foam is a wonderful and efficient product, but it is difficult to fill every void in an old house, but the results should be substantial. Enormous improvement in energy efficiency and quiet. Certainly not cheap, but a substantial improvement with energy costs certain to rise in our lifetimes.
- Q:Gypsum board size
- The general area is 1.22X2.44 / M thickness there are many can choose 1.2 / cm 1.8 2 and so on
- Q:Is there anyone out that may be able to give a idea as to how much money I should expect to pay to have plaster board installed in a 9ft wide and 101/2 long and approx 9ft highkitchen that is stripped to furing strips and cinderblock. Thank You,,
- 10 foot sheets by 5/8 x 11 sheets aprox $200 plus labor... am guessing aprox $500-600
- Q:I have just put plasterboard up in my kitchen, covering the walls behind my sink and cooker. I was going to tile behind said areas, but then didn't know if the adhesive would affect the plasterboard?Should I consider some sheet material like MDF which has a tile effect routed into it to drill on top of the plasterboard? Or maybe some vinyl tiles to just stick on top of the plasterboard?
- I think you'll be fine tiling over the plasterboard. Some friends of mine put up plasterboard in their kitchen with nonails glue and then tiled over it. It's still there. And nothing has fallen off yet.
- Q:I'm buying a cheap floating shelf for 20 so I can hang it on my bedroom wall (plasterboard). I'm buying it for a new stereo I'm getting , but I don't know how to hang the shelf up. I read somewhere that if you're putting a floating shelf on plasterboard you need to use toggle bolts. Can I just drill the holes in the wall , put wall plugs in , and then screw the shelf in to them. The stereo is a Samsung mini system with two seperate speakers. How can I put it up without a chance of it falling down ?
- A shelf is a simple lever. If you have, say, a shelf 10 wide with a 2 vertical bracket, that's got a mechanical advantage of 5 - if you put a 10lb stereo on the edge of the shelf, there's 50lb of force trying to pull the top bolts out. So it depends on the shape of the shelf, the weight of the stereo, how far it is from the wall etc. Most likely it will be OK until you accidentally grab the shelf one day, in which case if you just used wall plugs they will tear out and everything will fall to the floor. If you can, try and get at least one screw into a stud and use toggles for the others.
- Q:can i tile straight on plasterboard?
- if you want to do a proper job and not cut corners like most jack-legs do.you must apply a product called hardy board over the plaster and be sure to screw into the wall studs.then apply your tile on top of that.it will last a very long time and you will feel proud of a job well done.
- Q:Can those JML pull up bars be used on a wall that isn't brick?
- there's a video, and it's used on a regular door. reviewers all say it hasn't taken any damage / caused any to their door.
