- Q: What type of plastic are car windows made out of? (10 PTS BEST ANSWER)?
- I would like the 10 points PLEASE here is your information There are four common materials that we use in the manufacture of our windows, described in order of impact strength; PLEXIGLAS (Perspex) is the most common material used. It is approximately three times stronger than glass of the same thickness and it has an easy to maintain surface. This surface allows minor scratches to polish out, but it can suffer from stress cracking, especially when it is mechanically fixed to the car. IDEAL FOR HILLCLIMB, SPRINT OR TRACKDAY CARS WHERE CONTACT IS MINIMAL FLEXI-GLASS is our very own specification high impact acrylic sheet designed for motorsports. A cross between Perspex and Polycarbonate it gives you approx seventy five times the impact strength of standard Perspex. It is more scratch resistant than standard polycarbonate and it is tough, weather resistant and UV protected, which means it will give exceptional service as a replacement window. OUR PREFERED CHOICE FOR CIRCUIT RACING, RALLY, RALLY CROSS ETC. PETG is a new material, which is again, extremely tough with superb optical properties and very resistant to chemical attack. It is primarily used when the need for Thermoform screens arises. We have this material colour matched to our polycarbonate. POLYCARBONATE The toughest of materials is almost impossible to break under normal conditions. It is 250+ more impact resistant than glass; however its one fault lies in its relatively soft surface and inability to allow scratches to be polished out.IDEAL FOR ROUGH USAGE SUCH AS FOREST RALLY OR RALLY CROSS CARS.
- Q: ..The cardboard part is recyclable, the twist ties are reusable, wrapping paper and ribbon have reuse or recyclable value. I can't think of what to do with the plastic part.
- It depends on the number in the recycling triangle, and whether your jurisdiction recycles that number. To my knowledge (and I could be way wrong on this), most of these kinds of plastics are not recycled.
- Q: I have seen it done both ways.
- Inside. Try reading the instructions
- Q: I'm about to move into an apartment room that I have been warned gets very cold in the winter (I live in MN). However, the person telling me this also mentioned that the windows had not been plastic wrapped the previous winter. In her opinion, however, plastic wrapping the windows would do no good because according to her quot;you can actually feel the cold coming up through the floor.quot; I think it's possible though that what she felt coming in through the floor was actually the drafts from the window sinking to the ground and spreading. Would plastic wrapping my windows eliminate this problem? Or would the room still be cold/I should request a different one? Thanks
- The glass itself? No. It needs an air barrier between the plastic and the window.. So basically you put plastic on the sill and walls, covering the window over all, and yes, that does work. I do it on my bathroom window during winter. Because it gets freekin' cold. Nobody likes taking a hot shower, then walking out of it nude in to Antarctica..
- Q: I would like to completely remove it off of the car without removing the whole top? (The zipper broke)
- Look up an auto convertible top repair shop--they can fix it
- Q: So i put a plastic goblin window cover up for halloween, its a window that sees the sun all day long. I went to take it off today but its like its melted to the window and my windows are plexiglass. I have tried scraping it off, using running alcohol and nail polish remover but nothing works! Does anyone have suggestions??
- High risk of damaging the plexiglass even if you get it off. Strong solvents are no better. Replace the plexiglass.
- Q: Should I insulate just my single pane windows or my new windows as well? Also should I put the plastic on the inside, outside or both? Thanks.
- Plastic on the inside. Putting it outside will subject it to wind and weather. It will be noisier and will not last all winter. If your new windows are double or triple pane, I would not do them. Look for places where drafts come in around windows, doors, fireplaces. Many of these can be sealed with caulk and are very efficient.
- Q: It is a clean tear- about 2 inches. I was wondering if there is anything I can use to glue it back together, or if a mechanic/garage would be able to fix it?
- THIS IS ASSUMING YOU MEAN THE HALF TOP PLASTIC WINDOWS ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS, BUT IT ALSO WORKS ON THE REARS TOO. GO TO A POOL SUPPLY STORE (YES POOL SUPPLY) AND GET A LINER PATCH. THEY COME IN CLEAR MATERIAL, AND THE BEST THING IS, IT'S WATERPROOF!! (USED ON POOLS) NAD IF YOU ARE VERY CAREFUL WHEN APPLYING THE SEALANT, IT LOOKS LIKE A FUZZY SPOT ON THE WINDOW.
- Q: So I drunkenly put my elbow through my friend's passenger window in his jeep wrangler..he's pissed and is demanding $200 for its replacement or he's pressing charges. Yeah, nice friend. 200 dollars sounds like an astronomical amount for a piece of plastic that zips onto your car. Am I getting ripped off?
- You're not getting ripped off... those things are surprisingly expensive.
- Q: I have a 1994 convertible with a plastic rear window, and it has 13 years of dirtiness on that thing. There is a bunch of ugly what I presume are scratches all across teh middle (probably from the folding process). Also, there are little almost transparent white circles (you have to see them from an angle though)... that are also really annoying. Can you identify what those circles are??I've tried meguire's plastx polish...and even some white vinegar distilled in water.Currently, im looking for a more aggressive product.
- I agree with John Paul. No matter how much you try to refurbish it you'll still notice all of the blemishes that bother you.
