FAQ
- Q:Do they still make them. Like the ones we used to have in the 70's and 80's. Or is it an outdated concept? If yes, where can I find them or how can I make one? The pole has to be about 8 feet long. thanks! : )
- Do you mean like the ones where you pull them down and they unroll, and then to open them back up you pull down slightly and push them back up? I have those and I got them at the Home Depot. You can special order them in whatever size you want. And, they're fairly inexpensive. I have them on two picture windows with a southwest exposure, one about 6 feet long and the other about 7 feet long. I also have 2-inch horizontal mini blinds on those windows. But, the blinds are so long and heavy that they don't completely close all the way. So, I had to install the roll-up blinds behind them. And, they work great.
- Q:There have been news reports that broken glass is falling from condo apartments. They are coming from glass window installments. I want to know if condo buildings ever build their windows with plastic.
- You sound like a good tenant. No Landlord will get mad and not renew a lease, with no trouble seeing that you ask for improvement. If he does, I assurance there used to be an extra motive and wouldn't have renewed it anyway another thing is, landlords are well conscious of the condition of the models. They be aware of when carpets are as a result of get replaced, home windows and different repairs and improvements are indispensable. Nevertheless, they most likely will preserve off as long as possible, except the tenet asks. As for the fee, it can be expensive, but it also provides to the worth of the unit, makes it easier to appoint/lease out. Who pays the heating bills? Whoever is paying is in general spending extra if it can be bloodless there, and warmth is escaping. That will have to be a important point to bring up also. But don't be shy. Again, it's most likely he is already conscious of the need to change them.
- Q:I have seen it done both ways.
- depends on your region because you do not want moisture build up in your house but the outside of the window would keep the wind from hitting the window somewhat and does not conduct temperatures like single pane glass. but it probably would not look are last as long on the outside
- Q:Ok, I just moved in to my own apartment this past Spring, and it's an older duplex (with a lot of friggin windows-31 to be specific). So trying to keep the heat in this winter is a huge issue. I've heard of covering the windows with plastic to help, but I'm also looking at thermal shades (window quilts, etc.). My question would be which of these would keep more heat in? Or should I do both? (I would make my own if doing the quilts...so if anybody has any links to a really easy way to make them that would be very much appreciated as well! ) Money is tight, so I'm trying to avoid the problem to begin with..
- the plastic window coverings work great and are inexpensive. they keep the wind from blowing into your home too. shades and quilts would not stop the wind from blowing in.
- Q:I just had my 30 yr old storm windows replaced with nice double pain, double glazed, argon filled windows in November. HUGE IMPROVEMENT! But now that i am used to comfort level and energy savings that these windows have made to my home. I find myself looking for the tiny amounts of cool air that penetrates into my home. And I still have this habit of wanting to put plastic over my windows. Do you think adding the plastic now would be overkill? Or would the energy savings still out way the cost of the plastic this first week on January?
- I think you would be wasting your money. Wait until spring and then go outside and caulk around your windows if you see holes
- Q:Should I insulate just my single pane windows or my new windows as well? Also should I put the plastic on the inside, outside or both? Thanks.
- Plastic on the inside. Putting it outside will subject it to wind and weather. It will be noisier and will not last all winter. If your new windows are double or triple pane, I would not do them. Look for places where drafts come in around windows, doors, fireplaces. Many of these can be sealed with caulk and are very efficient.
- Q:In my bedroom I have an arc-shaped window over the regular window. There are plastic grids between the panes of glass for decoration. One of them fell to it's side. Is there a way to fix this without replacing the window? Thanks!
- Plastic Window Grids
- Q:ok i have a corvette 1986 convertible. The car isn't perfect but i love it. the main problem for me is the rear plastic window. It is brown and is not visible at all to the inside for the outside. I need to know if there is any product out there that can go beyond the cleaning of oxidation. i want the window clear again. And yes it has been left outside for about 5 years to face the elements but i was not the first owner so i presume that it has been outside longer. so the question comes down to how do make the window go from brown to clear without buying a new top.
- It is replaceable fairly cheap by an auto trim shop if it wont clean up. any good plastic cleaner applied carefully might do the trick but at that age i'm doubtful,,the car is worth if you have to replace it or call me and i'll buy the whole car!!
- Q:I have tried the heating up shrink wrap and the double sided sticky tape won't hold on my wall. So I bought a thick layer of plastic and tried to hold it up with tacks and just duct tape around it. The duct tape also comes peeling of my walls. Is there some kind of tape/glue that can hold this plastic up and not peel off my walls?
- I would try using a tube of white, tan, brown painters latex caulking in a small 11 oz. tube and caulking gun. All purchased for under $10. The latex caulk will adhere to just about any surface and can be removed at a later date by lightly scraping off with putty knife or just painting over it. You may need to use your tacks, or tape to hold it in place for 10 minutes until the caulk starts to dry. Just a thin bead all the way around the window.
- Q:do plastic windows weigh less then glass in a car
- Yes, but you have to use a certified type of plastic. It has to react in a certain way in a collision. It's also thinner and offers less sound insulation. This is why very few road-legal cars have plastic windows, save for stripped out exotic cars like the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Ferrari F430 Scuderia, Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24, and I believe the Porsche 911 GT3 RS has some plastic windows.
