Q: I bought this Brinks pad lock and it says boron steel on the lock. I was just wondering what exactly is boron steel and how hard/tough is it?
Boron steel is rather hard, it is by no means titanium, but certainly better than mild steel. However, as with all metals, hardness is inversely proportional to flexibility, meaning that a good solid whack with a sledge hammer could crack your lock.
Q: Looking for a new entry door for my home If someone would explain the features and benefits of both fiberglass and steel doors I would greatly appreciate it!!
Steel doors can dent easily and are usually cheaper in price. Whereas fiberglass doors cost more but are more durable to withstand weather etc. Steel doors show the effects of wear and tear more than wood or fiberglass doors do.
Q: how is stainless steel made? what are the things used in making it?
There are 3 basic stainless steels. The Martinsitic, the ferritic, and the Austinistic. The spelling may be wrong on all of them. (Got out of school in 1966 with my metallurgy in 1965. The Ferritic is magnetic and has some resistance to corrosion but the Martinsitic is much more resistant to corrosion. The Austinitic stainless is very resistant to corrosion. The differences are the amount of Chrome and Nickel in the batches. The Austinitic has an 18/8 ratio of Chromium and Nickel with the rest Iron and minor ingredients. The carbon content is very important and these steels are often made in small batches with close monitoring of composition and carbon content. Scrap metals are frequently used with the chrome and nickel being added as carefully selected scrap or even fresh crude stocks. Electric melting is frequent to avoid contamination.
Q: How are steel coils used in the manufacturing of electrical wiring?
Steel coils are used in the manufacturing of electrical wiring to provide strength and support to the wiring. The steel coils are typically used as a core or reinforcement within the wiring to enhance its durability and prevent it from bending or breaking easily.
Q: I want to hear from those who own a scandium revolver. I know that scandium makes for a much lighter gun than steel, but how do they hold up durability-wise? Is their lifespan shorter than a comparable steel revolver?
Not that I have ever heard. I have a pd340 thats about 3 yrs old, has about a thousand .38 rounds through it with no noticable loosening of the crane or anything. FWIW, the weight savings in a J frame is only a few ounces over an airweight, but the cost is almost double. Check out the SW 638 or 438.
Q: I have a Charles Daly shotgun and I'm trying to find out if it is ok to shoot steel out of. The side engravings say: Charles Daly 20 GA 3 and the other side says : KBI-HBG, PA made in TurkeyOn their website it says that the barrel on the Charles Daly 300 Field is able to shoot steel but I don't see anywhere that this is a 300 model.Im also not sure if the choke is able to shoot steel. It has no engravings on it. How can I tell if this choke will work? It is the original choke that came with the gun?
I do not know that gun. I have the over/unders. A little checking. Now checking the specs it does describe the barrel steel, and that it is threaded to standard Rem Choke size threads. So before you shoot steel if you do not know what choke you have go to any gunshop and ask them to just stick their choke gauge in the choke. On the choke itself it should say what choke it is. For steel shot you should use one choke size LARGER then the way you want the gun to pattern. ie. A modified choke will shoot a full choke pattern. An Improved cylinder choke a modified pattern and so on. DO NOT use a full choke. the full choke is too tight, and steel shot does NOT deform like lead does. The first indication of a problem would be a bulge in the barrel out near the muzzle end. Run your hand down and feel it. The barrel steel is fine though just use or get the correct choke tube, AND what I said is if you so not have anything BUT a full choke buy a Rem Choke the size you want. Even Walldog sells Rem Chokes.
Q: What are the advantages of using steel coils in various industries?
There are several advantages of using steel coils in various industries. Firstly, steel coils are highly durable and have a high strength-to-weight ratio, making them suitable for heavy-duty applications. Secondly, steel coils offer excellent resistance to corrosion, which is crucial in industries exposed to harsh environments or chemicals. Additionally, steel coils can be easily formed and shaped, allowing for flexibility in design and customization. Lastly, steel coils are recyclable, making them an environmentally-friendly choice while reducing waste and promoting sustainability.
Q: I need details for steel column splices welded or bolted. References or autocad blocks will be very useful. Thank you very much!
The refernce for Canada is S16-01 Limit states steel design My professor always taugth us shop weld field bolt if that helps
Q: Steel is strong in both tension and compression. Concrete is only strong in compression, and is very fragile in tension. Plus, concrete is heavy--a huge drawback in, say, a bridge deck. And its fairly expensive. And it hides the condition of the steel embedded within it. So what does it bring to the table? Why use it at all?
As a composite material, reinforced concrete can be an economical alternative to structural steel in building, bridge and other superstructures. Reinforced concrete can be formed into almost any shape in the field. The bulk of reinforced concrete material - the aggregates - can often be produced local to a project, reducing manufacturing cost. Reinforced concrete weight can be a benefit, resisting loads that cause displacement, uplift and overturning.
Q: How are steel coils distributed globally?
Steel coils are distributed globally through a well-established supply chain network. Manufacturers typically ship steel coils to various locations worldwide through ocean freight or rail transportation. These coils are then distributed to customers, including construction companies, automotive manufacturers, and other industries, through local distributors or directly from steel service centers. Additionally, international trade and partnerships play a significant role in the global distribution of steel coils, ensuring a steady supply to meet market demands.
