Q:How to maintain composite wood floor
2, daily use should pay attention to avoid the sharp metal, glass tiles, spikes and hard thing is scratch the floor; do not make contact with the fire floor or placed directly on the floor of electrical power; the prohibition of placing strong acid and alkaline substances on the floor; the absolute prohibition of long time flooding.
Q:Solid wood flooring and solid wood flooring
"Flat floor" this name is just a process, indicating that the surface of the floor is "flat", which is different from some of the antique floor, antique floor surface is uneven wood.
Q:I had a water leak in my bath whci had engineered wood installed. I want to now apply ceramic tile over the engineered wood if possible? The wood is glued to the concrete floor.
It is not a good ideat to install ceramic over an engineered floor. Wood is not stable enough for ceramic, as minor movement will cause the ceramic to crack. The wood must be removed, and if the floor underneath is concrete you will be fine. If it is a wood subfloor, a concrete impregnated plywood must be installed first. (Such as Hardi-backer or Wonderboard) I am in the business, and if a customer insisted on installing ceramic on top of an engineered floor, as much as I like selling this stuff, I would turn the job down.
Q:How to distinguish the quality of solid wood flooring and wood
Is not the better the floor plate better? Owners Guo recently raised such questions. In response to this question, a home improvement supervision company manager Wang introduced, the name of the species on the market is indeed more confusing, from the log color of the birch to very dark red sandalwood, dozens of colors. The same color of wood flooring can also made of different species of wood, but also because of the price of the precious degree vary, low only more than and 100 yuan / square meters, and the thousands of yuan, not imported material than domestic good material, the floor is relatively high in the selection of the owners the floor, the best choice of tree species are not afraid of the dry floor.
Q:What hard wood flooring is better solid or engineered. The flooring is going to be placed in a bed room and family room
As you can see, there really are a lot of factors that go in to talking about the differences between solid and engineered wood flooring. The last statement I would make is about how much more environmentally friendly engineered flooring can be over solid. This is because you can get a far greater yield out of the finished hardwood with engineered because you are only using the finished hardwood type on the top layer. This is why engineered flooring has seen a dramatic increase in sales over the last 7 to 10 years and solid has declined. Most manufacturers inside and outside the US are retooling their factories to handle more engineered as solid will have a much smaller role in the future. Of course, like anything else, you can't make a blanket statement on this as well. Engineered, while more environmentally friendly (in concept) is a manufactured product. You have to take into account the glues that were used to press the layers together, the finish in the top layer, etc. But overall, the industry would agree that engineered hardwood flooring is the way of the future. I hope this helps you. It was a lot of information but in my opinion, the information needed to make an informed decision about what is best for you.
Q:I've looked at Armstrong, Bruce, Mannington, BuildDirect, and Lumber Liquidators. I'm looking for something light-medium, not too golden. I want to pair it with black cabinets for a Kitchen project.
I assume you mean random lengths not widths. Most engineered wood come in one length but not all. Mohawk has a couple of lines that carry 1' 2' 3' and 4' boards and in engineered wood that is considered random lengths. To get varying widths you have to mixed boxes , from the same manufacturer to do different widths. Just to get the consistency of engineered wood the length have to be some what standard. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q:We are about to finish the floors in our basement and the guy at home depot suggested engineered wood floors instead of pergo type floors. They r real wood, do you know if this is a good product, and any negative things about it. Also the guy said it could be refinished, but it looked too thin for that to me.
Engineered woods are perfect for basement areas, as the other poster explained....the layers of the wood help the moisture to get out of the wood, making it a more dimentionally stable product. As far as refinishing an engineered wood - there are certain products that can be refinished 3 times, but you aren't going to find those at Home Depot. HOWEVER - when you start to see surface scratches and traffic patterns, a sand and finisher can come in and buff and coat the floor. This is where the top layer of urethane is removed and another coat applied. You can do this every year if you like, because you aren't sanding into the wood layer. The only time you need to sand a floor back to bare wood(like in refinishing) is if you want to change the color, or have some serious damage.....if you have that much damage with an engineered floor, you can always replace the damaged boards. If you go with a laminate floor(Pergo), when you start to see surface scratches, and traffic patterns - which will occur....there is nothing that you can do to refresh the floors and get the scratches out because they're basically plastic.
Q:The meritage bistro flooriand the Armstrong rural flooring are the ones I am looking at. They are both hand scraped
If it were just a bedroom, it wouldn t matter at all. But since its going it a higher traffic area, the solid , full hardwood is much better in the long run because it can be redone several times. If your going to put it in yourself and the traffic in the house is high, no kids and animals, you can do either. Since engineered is easier to install for a DIY er and will hold up fine under lighter foot traffic. Get a quality wood in whichever you pick. Cheapest isn t the way to go in an investment for flooring Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q:whats the different between this two type of wood for flooring??i don't really understand ... as i know hardwood was cut from timber and engineered wood was like few wood plank stack together...is that correct??which one better for flooring?? as in maintenance or pricewhich one worth??
engineered wood is actually more durable since its designed to not warp or shrink, the finish is extremely durable & installation is easy hardwood will always be a classic & best for traditional homes, it can be sanded & restained
Q:I have engineered wood floors, what is the best floor cleaner to use for these types of floors?
The best hardwood cleaner is by Bruce. Bruce Hardwood cleaner. It comes in a green bottle and can be purchased at Home Depot or Lowe's. You can also get the kit, which comes with a dust mop with a removable head. PLEASE, do not ever use Murphy's oil soap on your hardwood floors. There is not a manufacturer around who will recommend it, plus it's oil soap. It will eventually leave a streaky build up on your floor.
