- Q: I had roofs leaks in my 2 bedrooms (hurricane related) and filed an insurance claim. they covered replacing the carpet in the 2 bedrooms but NOT replacing the hallway and stairs' carpet because that was not damaged. The carpet is 10+ years old so of course i am replacing it all. I think it should be consider all one item, they say that because there is a 'break' between the room and the hallway, their practice is to only replace the damaged carpet -- though this is not defined in the policy. The new carpet is totally diff color. Has anyone had any experience with this? I have total replacement cost and it is State farm.

- Q: Just bought an area rug, and I can't decide if it looks good. The area is small - and I get the feeling that it closes it in even more. - You need the rug. But with all of the black Grey, I would have chosen something a little brighter, but since you already have the rug, I would use it and maybe add some colorful toss pillows.

- I'm sure you could figure it out, but it would depend on a lot of variables (i.e. total diameter of roll, width of carpet, etc). Would probably be much easier to unroll it in all honesty.
- Q: Is it true that you are better off buying a thinner carpet (not as dense or tall) with an 8 lb. carpet padding (the best) as opposed to a thicker carpet (dense and tall) with a cheaper 6 lb. padding? The price difference in the padding is dramatic...3.50/sq. yd. vs. 6.50/sq. yd.!
- it all depends on your taste in carpet. if you like flat carpets, like berber, these are more easy to vaccume cause the pile is flat. in this case, get the thicker padding. but if you love luxury shags and dont have kids or pets to get dirt all stuck in the fibers, the thinner pad is for you. in other words, your lifestyle and your taste should be your guide.

- Move tray, try a dry carpet cleaning powder. Foam cleaners work well if used correctly. Deodorize and vacuum regularly. I put old newspaper under cat tray in case the cat as an accident.

- Q: I'm getting ready to put new frieze carpet (similar to a shaggy carpet). I have a dyson vacume cleaner I have heard that it doesnt vacume that well on frieze carpet. Is that true? Is that type of carpet durable? Thanks for your feedback.
- I can't answer for the dyson question, but I have frieze carpet in my house and love it. the husband wanted full blown shag and I compromised (I wanted berber) any way, it is durable, tough and does not mat.really happy with it and we have it in the highest traffic areas of our house - the hallway and stairs as well as the master bathrooms. every time I vacuum, it looks just like it did the day they put it in. I have a kirby and vacuuming it is a breeze. I have not had any issues other than not being able to find earrings in the carpet if I drop them. It cleans beautifully as well.
