- Q: When they say better they might not mean quot;more expensivequot;. The true meaning is quot;upgradequot;, but they don't specifically mean a big upgrade. My friend grows all kinds of herbs when they're in season, he cooks, makes tea, and uses them for medicine for his elderly auntie. Better Homes and Gardens forces you to think about what the word better really means.
- it does? i wouldn't dwell on that too much if i were you. BETTER means SUPERIOR. as in hey, buy our magazine and get ideas of how to make your HOME and GARDEN... BETTER. did i just blow your mind?
- Q: Looking for a company that sells country/rustic home decor it's not Home and garden, southern living at home or home interiors. please help!
- If okorder Good Luck!
- Q: I'm looking to make an easy to maintain container garden using a large Roman-esque pot. I'm looking for some design ideas that include height in the center with a mound and edging flora. Plant choices that include color and/or fragrance would be excellent as well. This container will sit in a semi-shaded area on the front porch in Southern California.
- Wow, because you live in So Cal, you have LOTS of choices. A shady location may limit the fragrance plants that will grow well. However, since I can't see exactly what your POT looks like, it is hard to say! Here is what I would suggest: Take your pot to your local plant nursery and have them help you pick out some plants. You can always go to another nursery if you don't like the choices!! Good Luck!!
- Q: Some part of my home garden is covered with ground covering plants (some type of ivy with networked roots). The garden is full of weeds and small trees. If I use Preen or other type of chemicals, can I get rid of weeds? I'm thinking removing all the ground covering and weeds, and cover the area with mulch. If there is a way to have ground covering with weeds well controlled, I may try it. I appreciate your input.
- The advice from mediator is a reliable ideas-set. I moved right into a clean residing house in 2007 on an internet site which became initially farm land and became ripe with an excellent variety of organic international. I sprayed with Roundup and after some weeks whilst the weeds had died off I set out the climate for grass, borders, vegetable plot and lined the soundness with membrane and then with pebbles to maintain that section as low maintenance. you are able to continually shrink sections and plant timber or shrubs to furnish greater activity. I even have better the vegetable plot using old recovered railway sleepers to set out the bays and this has labored out o.k.. Now in the 2nd year and robust vegetation so far...... tastes lots greater suitable than from the shops.
- Q: I have a large garden in my backyard that I am trying to cultivate. However the soil is very clay-like and hardens quickly like corn field dirt. Its too large to cover with miracle grow or anything and hand tilling it as well as keeping things alive in it is very hard. Any suggestions?
- You would not use Miracle Grow for an entire garden. That would be extremely expensive. You do need to fill it with top soil which is cheap. I would rent a tiller from either Lowes or Home Depot. In order to soften the hard clay soil this is the best option. You will also need to add peat moss. It really is not as hard as you think. You will only need to do it once to get your garden in shape. The peat moss will help break it down. Once you over turn it you can plant whatever you like. If it flowers use mulch to finish it off. As the mulch breaks down this will help the soil as well.
- Q: we have a large rear garden, which runs from our cottage to the village mere, we have always left it as grass to allow our 3 children space to let them run about etc, but now they are growing up we as a family want to create a more structured space, and include maybe decking, paving a fire pit etc, but I have no idea where to get inspiration from!! are there any websites any one is aware of that show you before and afters, or ideas to help do this? we would probably carry out the work ourselves rather than get someone in. thanks.
- I okorder / Of course, one of the best ways is to walk around your neighborhood and town, and check out the fine gardens around your area. Take careful note of what is living and growing well. And, if you have the courage, talk to these master gardeners -- most gardeners are very nice people, and would be happy to share their hard-won knowlege.
- Q: Has anyone joined the Life Membership with NHGC? I am wondering if it is worth it.
- I became a Life Member in July of 1997 and I really enjoyed receiving the magazine every month, entering the contests the whole thing. i was glad I joined. My husband got sick and I didn t even pay any attention to when I stopped receiving my magazine. My husband died in July of 2010. I moved from Mayfield Ky. to Georgetown Ky. and to this day I still have not received my magazine. I had not received it for awhile before my husband died but I was to upset at the time to do anything about it. When I moved to Georgetown, had my open heart surgery, spent a month in rehab. of course I didn t think about it. I just found my Life Member card and remembered I am a life member but I don t get any of the benifets I was promised. To me that is called fraud. I would like to start to receive my benifits or my money back from paying my Life Member charge. Mymembe number is 70165191. My name is CHRISTINE EDWARDS. Address is 110 Widgeon Ct, Georgetown, Ky. 40324. I would appreciate it if I could have a working phone number. The number on my card does not work, The number is no longer in service. Please take care of this matter right away. I could use the money.
- Q: i love dogs but i dont have a garden any idea what i can do?
- i have no garden but i have a dog . i know it sounds crule but i take him on a walk 4 times a day adn when ever i go out to somewhere sutiable for dogs i live 10 mins away from a local park. the dog get uset to it after a while.
- Q: Most of the windows in my house have a draft coming in and I want to weatherize them, but not sure what to use that won't rip the paint off the window sills after I remove it later on. I've used the kits from Wal-Mart and it either rips off the paint or leaves a sticky residue. I've also tried using regular old saran wrap and scotch tape but that's about useless lol. Also, we have a set of French doors in the bedroom. Are there any special type of curtains I can buy to keep it warmer? Between the French doors, the window above my head of the bed and the basement door all in our bedroom it gets quite cold...about 5-10 degrees colder than the rest of the house.Advice?(FYI, we rent this house so putting in new windows isn't an option. It's a pretty old house (built in 1917) but is fairly well insulated otherwise.)
