- you can not put 2 layers of padding on top of each other. for one thing it will bunch up, and it will also void your warranties from the manufacturer. try looking for a good 8 lb 7/16 inch pad. you really don't want that much bulk under the carpet, it will cause it to pop off the tack strip, thereby losing the stretch. it will also be like trying to run the vaccuum over wet grass. f you are using a berber carpeting, you want to use as firm a pad as possible.

- well, that must be some sort of carpet padding, but i suppose it depends how long ago the carpet was installed. there was a time when they used asbestos to insulate like everything. so, if the carpet was installed after the mid 80's my guess is it's not, but if it was installed before then there is a good chance it is. if it is in fact asbestos, get it out of there, that S%^ will give you cancer, or something, it's terrible for the lungs.

- the stains go into the pad.....and when you shampoo it, it only removes the surface stains, then the stains in the padding seep up through the carpet.. you can forget kool-aid stains ever coming ouy of carpet.. you can replace the pad, then shampoo the carpet yourself. or put tile or laminate flooring in the room where the children are.laminate flooring has come down in price.

- You have 35.6 square yards so take that times 25 and you end up with $890.00 for that much carpet. Don't forget the pad and installation fee, sometimes it is included sometimes it is not. How I got my answer is 20*16=320 sqft. There are 9 square feet in a square yard so you divide 320/9=35.55555555555556 any carpet seller will round this off to 35.6 square yards. take 35.6sqyd * $25 = $890.00 for that much carpet. To Rob S remind me never to buy carpet from you! to get the square feet of the room you multiply the length and width 20*16 = 320 sqft for the room. Now I know that carpet rolls come in 12 and 15 foot wide rolls, and that the carpet can be sold either way by the sqyd or sqft. Just because you do it one way does not mean it is the only way.
