- Q:How do I fix this? Vacuuming only helps a little. The carpet is mushed from being stepped on all year in some areas, and other areas it looks like it did when we bought it. This makes the mushed area very noticeable. It is a lighter color than the carpet was originally.
- The problem you have is caused by low density -- carpet weight is the ounces a square yard weighs not counting the backing, so 18 ounce carpet weighs 18 ounces per sq yd without backing, etc. Most homes are built by price driven builders, so the weight is low. To make it look more plush, these builders specify long nap carpet, and the combination of long nap plus low weight means the fibers aren't close together to offer mutual support. Hence, crushing in traffic areas. You can steam the carpet (there's a small steam machine available for about 12 dollars) and while still damp and soft, you can brush it with a regular hairbrush to help restore the carpet to a less crushed condition. This problem is especially noticeable at the front edge of stair treads. Best fix is more expensive carpet, but steam and brush helps as long as you keep doing it.
- Q:My dog ripped up the rug and I was wondering if I could sew it back together or stitch it or something. Is that possible? He's ripped it up pretty good, the tears are 2-5 inches long, and half an inch wide at the most. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
- Is this rug like a throw rug or is it like carpet? Either way you can sew them. If it is carpet, attached to the floor, then cut a small piece from behind a door or inside of a closet. Use that to replace the damaged part by sewing it in. You can make a carpet needle by holding a large needle over the flame on your stove using a pair of pliers. With a second pair of pliers bend the needle into a half circle. Let it cool before touching it of course. Then just sew the piece into the damaged area. I've had to do that many a time with my puppies.
- Q:I've decided to redecorate my room, and I was going for a vintage theme because I absouetely love it.I have a comforter picked out-
- I'd stick to black or red though. With a room like that, try to bring it to life with accessories like wrought iron candle holders, clear glass vases, a classy lamp, mirrors, or chandeliers. Choose decor that really works with a french theme and you'll have a spectacular bedroom.
- Q:whats the difference between them, also can i turnout my mare in her medium weight stable rug just while its mild before i get my heavyweight turnout rug...what would happen to the stablerug?WHATS THE DIFFERENCE...is it like the material or something?rly confused
- What differentiates blankets are three things; the denier, how the blanket is woven (the shape of the fabric (Weatherbeeta uses diamonds, Rambo are tiny tiny squares, and other brands are large squares) and the fill. IF you READ what both of those blankets say they are both 200g fill. Which is the same exact thing. In America, 200g is considered a midweight blanket. The first link is their older model. The second link was last year's model (which is now being discontinued for this coming year's new model). Shires blankets have one of the highest deniers on the market, and they use balistic nylon (so virtually indestructible). The oh so beloved Rambo brand only goes up to a 1680, but most of their blankets average 1200D. Definitions of blankets: Sheet - NO FILL, Turnout Light - 100G fill, turnout, also known as a California light Medium - 200G fill, turnout Heavy - 300G-500G depending on the country. Stable blankets, sheets, rugs, whatever, are meant for the stable. Like the name insinuates. People call blankets whatever they want. To each person a rug may mean something different. A sheet is not a light, because a light would have fill.
- Q:My carpet has a sticky feeling, is stained, and just needs an overall really really good cleaning I can accomplish with my vaccum. What is the best cleaner to buy?
- Stanley Steamers
- Q:I only lived here for one year and my dog left some poo stains on the carpet that i cant get off, and I didn't pay any pet deposit. Is it mandatory for all apartments to change the carpet?
- I have never heard of the tenant changing the carpet. Usually the apartment complex will look at and assess the carpet to determine if it can be cleaned to a reasonable degree. This is done after you have moved everything out and handed in your keys. If the carpet is older than six years (at least in my complex) when the renter is moved out then it is automatically replaced, saving whatever we can for patches in other apartments such as flood damage or burn holes. I recommend having a professional carpet cleaning company with a truck mounted steam cleaner come and give you their assessment on the carpet. Ask them if they think they can get the carpet clean. If not, don't have them do it, as you will be wasting your time and money. As far as the carpet replacement goes, depending on your location ( I'm located in the Midwestern United States) You can figure on about $10.00 a square yard, depending on the installers agreement with the complex and the quality of the carpet and pad it could be a little more or a little less, but $10.00 is a pretty safe estimate.. This is then deducted from you deposit check before it is sent to you. If the carpet is in reasonable condition then you are not charged anything for the automatic steam cleaning that takes place when a tenant moves out. GOOD LUCK!!!
- Q:What is the carpet on the floor that is used for stepping on the doorway?
- Mat is an effective at the entrance of scraping mud and water, keep the indoor floor clean products. It is soft and comfortable. Unique anti UV additives, to prevent fading and embrittlement, can withstand the sun and rain of the outdoor environment.
- Q:I am away from my horses at the moment and i have to call each day to have them rugged. I couldnt get a hold of the lady today and they may not be rugged. its winter here (not snowing here ever) and they have always had doona type rugs on of a night. will they be ok and not get sick?im so worried i feel sick
- They're more likely to get sick from *being* rugged than not. Really, unless you have body-clipped them or maintained them under lights and with rugs to prevent any winter coat from developing, horses are much healthier if humans don't meddle in their thermo-regulatory functions. They can adapt to abrupt changes in temp if left to their own devices, but once blanketed they lose that ability because the blanket lays their hair down flat and doesn't allow responses to more or less heat/cold. The fact that so few horses get sick while using a rug/blanket is more of a testament to their hardiness than an endorsement of rugging. If the horse is healthy, had a decent layer of fat and haircoat, isn't wet and the wind isn't blowing hard, and it has enough hay/forage to stay warm, it can thrive in any weather. Think of all the wild or feral horses, and those whose owners allow them to be natural horses. Some don't even have those minimums I just mentioned - they live in the open, with no shelter from rain or snow, and the only feed available is under a meter of snow and the wind is blowing hard - they come through the winter a little thinner, but still healthy. Really, your horse will be fine. Consider leaving the rugs off unless it gets much colder than usual or if the horse is already sick from some other reason. In times like that, then yes it is good to provide a little more care.
- Q:It has no darts int the shoulders like most rugs and i don't want to buy it if it will rub
- I am going to buy one exactly the same - for the same purpose! my friend has one and it goes under everything - stable rugs, quilt rugs, outdoor winter rugs, canvases, deniers, even summer rugs just for the extra warmth - everything! She has had no rubbing problems and swears by them! I am going to get one exactly the same and i am sure you will have no problems with it! All the people i know who use them have no rubbing problems or anything as i asked them the same question - so from what ive heard - go ahead and buy it!!! kizza
- Q:My 5 year old son and i are moving into a flat that has an existing carpet which the owner refuses to lift. I had a carpet cleaning company come in to clean the carpets today and they now seem ok. MY question is : Can carpets cause respiratory problems in young kids? We sleep on a futon which is very low so our heads will be near the carpet. Of course i will be vacuuming as frequently as possible but i have heard that dangerous bacteria etc.. get into the carpet that the vacuum cant get out. What are the health hazards and can my healthy 5 and a half year old get affected? I would hate for him to develop allergies, respiratory problems or wore case scenario Asthma.
- Try spraying professional strength Lysol. Let it dry completly and spray w/ Frebreeze before replacing carpets. Lysol will kill the bacteria and the frebreeze will kill the smell.
