Q: How good are the Kirby Vacuum cleaners?: I've had mine for 15yrs, and it's still going!!!! Have had no repairs or problems with it.

Does it have to do with gas combustion?: power makes noise. sure, the noise could be muffled better -- which would reduce power output and require more engines burning more fuel to move the same total load. why don't locomotives use less noisy engines? effectively the only less noisy engine is third rail electric. [gas turbines can't be used -- the gas is explosive in ordinary air and thus huge hazard in derailment or other accident.] third rail electric is very expensive of installation cost -- so much so that it is impractical [too expensive] for all but the most frequently used trackage.

Q: If sound doesnt travel through a vacuum, why are vacuum cleaners so loud?: That would be the motor you are hearing, which is not in vacuum. Good play on words though. Take it up to space and you won't hear a thing ;-)

Q: I dont mean rugs, I realize they have been around for centuries. I mean wall to wall carpet, installed on the floor of a home with tack strips, not able to be easily removed to be cleaned.I am curious about specific timing, of when home vacuum cleaners became widely available, and when wall to wall carpet became popular. My mother tells me it was sometime in the 1950s.We were having a debate of whether or not the invention of the vacuum facilitated the popularity of home carpeting, (which is what I think), or if the desire for full home carpeting prompted the production and sales for home vacuum cleaners.I mean, it would make no sense to put a floor thats not easily cleaned in a home right? Therefore the vacuum must have been pretty available before the first home carpeting went in right?: carpet

Being forced to buy one over a portable?: I prefer Bissell up right vacuums and if you keep the filter clean...for under one hundred it's a bargin Central vacuum units are pricey and if you get a clog in the hose you have other issues..plus dragging the hose around the baseboard scratches them up Also thing about the dust and dirt blowing and sucking through the line to the holding canister...you are literally...pulling dust and dirt through the house in a hose... the canister is bulky and a pain to empty and if full when dumped it is a dusty mess.. for a less price and a little closet space you have little to lose I would never waste money on a central vacuum unit...buy a Bissell not a dyson and vacuum onward. *(* *(*

Q: What type of motors are used by vacuum cleaners?: high rpm (10k-19k) low hp ac motor. very loud They have to have tons of air moving by them and they're duty cycle is still low.
