Q: i mean, what do you use to make it stay put? glue? nails?: These are sheets of foam cut to size, they use a piece or steel wire to hold the foam up its cut some what longer then the width of the bal so it bends forcing it to dig into the joist.

Q: this room has an aluminum roof and hardwood siding. All the heat hit the aluminum roof: Spray on expanding foam is best, paint on radiant barrier may work, blow in insulation in attic (cellulose or fiberglass) or put 12"x12" Styrofoam ceiling tiles on the ceiling, they look decent and not to expensive, installs with latex adhesive or staples. Q: im thinking of putting rolled felt paper under my metal roofing would that work instead of the reflective insulation instead?: Probably could, but it would look like crap. Painting the roof white would do a better job of keeping the metal cooler. I'd install a ceiling fan in the center of the roof instead to force the hot air out.

Q: We have recently moved into a house in Australia with a tin roof. There is a layer of 5cm batts on the rafters in the roof space, but the temp is 10-15 degrees C higher up there than in the house (with all the windows and doors open). I don't want to get air-conditioning, is there another way to insulate the roof and cool the house?: put insulation above the ceiling (not on the rafters) and add vents on each side of the attic....

Q: Without loft insulation ,the roof space is full of air.Why does this not keep the heat in?: The warm air that collects in the attic is in close contact with the roof, heat is conducted through the roof and lost to the atmosphere.

The ammonia is mostly a liquid, and a liquid would absorb heat rapidly from tank walls. Above the liquid is vapor, and vapor absorb heat much less rapidly than liquid does, so insulation is less important there.

Q: The attic was converted into two rooms and I want to add insulation but the space between the ceiling of the rooms and the roof is about 5 inches? How should I do this?: u can buy blow in insulation. I think Home Depot even lets you rent the blower machine free if you buy a certain amount of bags of the insulation.

Q: Best roofing insulation to keep warm in the winter?: You mean the insulation that you put in your attic or crawlspace? That fiberglass stuff works pretty good- just roll it on out- the thicker it is the higher the R factor. Just remember to not reduce the air circulation especially around eaves, or you'll get condensation.
