Will it hurt them?If I do this, what should I use with it, just water or some kind of carpet cleaner, etc?

In my experience, you can try and clean on your own it will be the cheapest way to do it. And if you ruin the rug, you can always buy a new one. The ones you have now are dingy and if you cant clean them you need to get new ones anyway. I recommend getting a cheap rug for the dog to lay on that way you can replace once he messes it up without it being a big expense on you.

- I think everyone should invest in a Bissell carpet steamer. They're no more expensive than a vacuum cleaner, and they sure do come in handy for cleaning tough stains in carpets. There's a special Pet Formula detergent they sell (I think Walmart sells it in a generic formula, too), that does a great job of getting up cat stains. It's a lifesaver for me.

- A product called goof off. DON'T wait. Do it tonight if you can. Mask the area and put down some plastic wrap, get a bunch of dry paper towels. Put the stuff on and pull the paint out up and use new papertowels a lot. Good LUCK!!
