Q: The flooring was put in yesterday (they call it "floating floor" laminate) and as we walked on it last night we notice that some of the boards creak and groan. I know that traditional hardwood flooring does that when it gets older, but is laminate supposed to? Because if it's not, LOL - we need to get them back out here! Thanks.
It sounds like some of them were probably not locked together properly, or the underlying floor had high spots that exceeded specifications Before installing a laminate floor it is always a good idea to check for unevenness in the floor, and the specifications allow only a very slight deviation. You better call them up and get them back out there. With a laminate floor the only way to fix a problem spot is to take up the planks in the reverse order they were installed.
Q: has ANYONE ever been to a building in AMERICA that had a floor labeled 13???
no.. does a building that has a 13th floor exists? i don't think so..
Q: We woke up this morning to a flood on our living room. It did not drip from above and we have no idea where it can from not the bathroom or the kitchen either. We live in underground apt with tile floor is it possible it is seeping through the tile?
With a tiled floor it can be deceiving as a leak can run across the floor and it's trail dry out. Water shouldn't be able to get through the tiles, unless there is a crack somewhere which you would see. Are there any damp or discoloured patches around the walls, particularly lower down? Ingress through the walls is more likely than through a tiled floor.
Q: Why do price floors lead to surpluses? What is an example of a price floor?
Price floor is a floor that you mop, for a price, typically in McDonalds restaurant. As a result of working there, you eat more food than you need, and you end up with surplus weight.
Q: I have a paint can that leaked & now the paint can is stuck to the floor. I need to know the best way to unstick the paint can
i would knock it off with a golf club
Q: What can you do to fix laminate flooring that has started to buckle?
Replace the damaged boards. (if laminate floating floor boards.) This involves removing all the boards until you get to the ones that need changing though... maybe you could cover them with a mat or rug? If it is simple flat laminate, absolutely nothing can be done as the surface has stretched.
Q: we're considering it for a kid's playroom. Is it durable? I want flooring that won't be toxic, yet easy to clean and will be tough.
Cork wouldn't stay clean, and how WOULD you clean it? I would use tile. If you want it soft, there are some commercial grade linoleum type floor coverings that are rubbery or soft-- but you can clean them like a tile floor. They are starting to be used in hospitals, and are nice. I'm not sure about the toxicity, though. Probably pretty expensive, but so would cork be expensive, and a waste of money because you couldn't clean it.
Q: Just removed an old lenoleum flooring, ( 50 years), and a Parkay floor. Do they make a floor sander or are there any chemicals that can be used?
Hand floor scraper is your best bet. The glue from the Parquet will be very hard since these old glues almost crystallizes . Getting the high stuff off and then use a grinder if you need to get it to cement again. VERY dusty though..There are no solvents safe to use in a residential setting that will work . Depending on what you are going to put down again will determine just how clean you need to get the flooring. Any flooring questions you can e mail me through my avatar.GL
Q: ok so my hubby and i just bought a 6 bd 2 bath house.. only problem is the down stairs bathroom floor looked as if the sub floor was bad right by the bathtub well hubby and i pulled up all the sub floor.. well the joist i think it is called there is 3 of them going across one of them when i step on it moves just a tiny bit(im 133 lbs) the 2nd one moves up and down when i step on it and has a split in the middle the 3rd one where the bath tub was is the worse and its soft feeling on the top and feels like it could break.. i was told by a repair man that to fix this problem it would cost WELL over 1,000.. i pulled up the other sub floor in the laundry room that is right next to the bathroom and only separated by a "wall" more like paneling and them joist seem to be fine(no splits, doest move much at all)what should i do and can this be fixed for less the 1,000??thanks
Wishing for a 2010 baby, Sounds like to me that you have a sub-floor plywood problem. Since you can see the sub-floor plywood, the labor cost is going to be cheaper now to repair it. Also sounds to me that the previous owner didn`t use a shower curtain, which caused this problem. You an your hubby might have to replace the sub-floor plywood in the bathroom only. Or at least replace the plywood up against the tub. Use sub-floor glue when replacing the plywood. This will stop any squeak's later on. And I recommend you use 2 inch drywall screws to secure the plywood to the floor joist. This will also prevent 'squeaking' later on. You might have to add some lumber(extra floor joists) just next to the tub area. Note: If tiling the floor, use concrete board over 3/4 inch thick sub-floor plywood. If not tile, then what ever size sub-floor thickness you have now will do. Another suggestion; If replacing any carpet in your new home, screw the sub-floor plywood down with 2 inch screws every 8 inches on only the floor joists before installing new carpet. I Hate squeaking floors. Good luck with your new home and your new baby/baby`s. Hoped this helped. Doing most of the work yourself will save you money. + or - $500.00 labor,$500.00 material.
Q: If you sit on a couch and crawl "down" from it, do you crawl on the floor or to the floor? Or something else entirely?
You're crawling TO the floor because you were originally on the couch. But if you're already on the floor you're crawling ON the floor :)
