- Q: my boss wants to remove floor tiles and stain the cement floor underneath the tile, what is a easy way to remove the old tile
- Wear okorder /... you will also need lots of rags and ventilation. I hope you meant vinyl tiles?
- Q: I was told by one guy at Menards to use a 1/4 teeth trowel for 6-1/2‘‘ x 1/4‘‘ floor tiles. I am worried this will be too much glue and will ooze out the 3/16‘‘ gaps between tiles. then it will be a nightmare mess, and can‘t grout. Also do you just lay the tiles on the glue? or press down ?how much?Thank you very much
- No matter how much mastic you use for tile it will come up in the grout joint areas because you have to press down and what I hve found easy and everyone is different is to have a bucket of water and use a spacer to clean the mastic out of the grout joints as you are laying them. After they are dried you can still clean out the grout joint areas which it not hard either. Hope this helps
- Q: Hey there. We are in the process of adding a half bath to our home. We purchased tiles months ago at a tent sale at out local tile store. We have some wall corners that might require bullnosed corner tiles but this wasnt taken into account when we purchased the tiles and now we cannot find matching bullnose tiles anywhere.......Is there any was to finish the wall edges without using bullnosed tiles and have it still look good???
- Bnose tile is a new simplified way of doing tile and was to remove one of the grout edges. So all you have to do is grout the top like they did in the old days a few years ago. You could also use a thin lat of flat trim, a brass or stainless steel edging, or caulking that matches the wall or tile. I think the simple grout is your best bet. PS. Where corners meet If the tile is same color through they can show. If it is glazed colored or just a thin color on top then no. In that case cut the tile back so that they do not quite reach the corner. Then there will be a slight inverted corner where you will grout or caulk. In neither case would you want to miter the corner. It will be too sharp and thin corners would be weak enough to chip.
- Q: My grandpa‘s bathroom needs to have a few adjustments made to it, namely safety bars put in place around the tub to help him in and out. The problem: every wall is covered in glazed tile (which I know makes a difference) and the bars need to be screwed in.My question is this: how? I know that using just a drill bit will shatter the tile, even a carbide one because the tile‘s glazed. Thanks much, kisses and ten points to the best answer.
- you got to get the screws in wall studs or they will just fail as soon as any weight is put on the bars. drilling thru a ceramic wall tile --- that part is easy.
- Q: my dad is does tile. He has quite a bit of leftover tile from various jobs. Is it possible that we can recycle tile?
- There are ARTISTS who use CERAMIC tile scraps.
- Q: I‘m going to install a porcelain tile floor. My question is when I install a tile up against a cabinet that people can see. Should I but the tile up against the cabinet or should I leave enough space to grout between the tile and the cabinet. Just wondering what the standard practice is , and what looks the best. Also I have a small crack in the concrete, which the tile company said it was so minor that not to worry about it. Although it caused a crack in my old tile that was originally installed. I would really like to prep the crack prior to installing the new tile. What would you recommend doing to prep the crack. Thanks
- I like to leave a space between the cabinet and tile the same as the groutlines. About the crack. You can grind all the loose stuff off it and fill it with cement or something like that. but I've found that if the crack keeps getting bigger (if the house settles any more) there is nothing you can do except when the tile cracks replace it
- Q: I wanted to remove three lines of bathroom wall tiles without distrubing other surrounding tiles. These tiles were fixed on cement around 5 months back.. now we can see cracks on these tiles (different color)..
- in the tile section at homedepot they make a hand held grout saw that you can use to remove the grout from around these tiles once you do they you can gently pry up a little bit to remove the tiles, if they were set good they shouldn't come out in one piece so put something on the floor and in the tub so as not to chip anything.
- Q: I want to know how to make tile based map in java. Retro games used tiled maps (to ease programming and memory management) but those games were created in assembly language. I know basic java. Now I want to make a 2d game in java, starting with a pretty basic 2d platformer type or top-down type. To do this, i need to know the technique required to make a map, a tile map.I have already searched in google and youtube and stack overflow, but none helped much. What I learnt is that I have to make some tile object and make a 2 dimensional matrix to store position of particular tiles. But this does not helped much. Thank you.P.S. there are many programs available on the internet for making tile maps, and also there are game making softwares and also libraries. i do not want to use any of those since i want to make my game with whatever java provides. Thank you. Also forgive my poor english.
- first of all, you need to build different densities of 2D tile arrays according to how much of the map will be in the viewport at any given time. For example, a map at neighborhood level will need a gazillion more tiles than a map at the county level. Then, you need a way of converting the geographic reference at the center of the viewport to the tile that is covered at that zoom level, and for finding the adjacent tiles as well. Then, you'll need to calculate what parts of which tiles you are using will need to be clipped and by how much. Build a canvas using this information. As the map moves, you'll need to add on more adjacent tiles, and discard others, update the clipping, etc.
- Q: can I surface over my white tile flooring granet??
- If they are vinyl tiles stuck to the subfloor and you put another substrate, such as 1/2 cement board, yes you can. If the vinyl tiles are over another type subfloor, such as luan, then no, the vinyl and its substrate must come up and then the proper subflooring put down over the subfloor, correctly and then tile. If its a self stick tile, over slab, it must come up. If its a glued down vinyl tile over slab and bonded well, there are proper ways to put ceramic over this. If your doing ceramic over ceramic, and the ceramic is down well and no signs of cracks or loose tiles, again there are proper ways of putting ceramic ( or granite) over ceramic. - Q: We are in the process of buying a Fannie Mae home which is in very good condition. We did however find a hairline crack on about 6 of the 12 x 12 tiles in the master bathroom floor. The Home Inspector said there are no signs of foundation problems on the outside of the home. He said because we live in Texas the ground settles and expands and this could have caused the crack. Because there are no signs of foundation troubles on the outside of the home as long as we water the foundation we shouldn‘t have any problems. There is also a door that closes on it‘s own which indicates there could be a crack? However it‘s just one door out of about 12. Should we be worried or does the inspector know what he‘s talking about.
- The inspector knows some what what he s talking about. Movement like this can cause tile to crack but in most cases the cracks will run in a fairly straight line. Are the tiles that way? Or are they here and there? If the are more in a random pattern, tiles my be loose , the workmanship was poor and thin set wasn t applied right or thin set was to wet , dry or possibly had skinned over before tile was set. There are easy ways to tell if the tiles are loose to see if thats the problem. The door shouldn t be a problem to fix so I would be more concerned with the tiles. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there.
