Q: I am building my own longboard and i would like to go fast so what bearings shuld i go for and if you have any suggestions for wheels too that would be great.
ABEC rating doesn't mean anything to skateboards. Take your board and drop it from chest height to the ground, now your bearings are rated far less than ABEC1. Just make sure they're clean and lubed and there'll be no difference in speed between $2 no-name bearings and $50 ceramics. Grab some VXB bearings. They're cheap and good. Instead of paying $45 for ABEC 9s, spend $45 and get 100 bearings (12 sets + 4 extra bearings), or spend $25 and get some with built-in spacers (makes sliding a lot smoother, unless you're using precision spacers in your normal bearings). As for wheels (which have a much larger effect on speed than bearings btw), 80a Retro ZigZags are some of the best all-around wheels. Very fast, grippy and smooth rolling. Other wheels to check out are 69mm/70mm 80a/82a Sector 9 Race Formulas, 80a or 83a Orangatang 4Prez, and Earthwing Road Rages or Smokers.
Q: My 2000 4x4 Lifted Ford Excursion has a clicking noise when I am driving, on the front driver side. I can take my foot off the gas an it is still there no matter the speed. I am thinking it is a bad Hub/Bearing? How would I know for SURE that is what it is? Any tips on what to look for if I jack it up? Thanks.
Jack up the vehicle and check the bearing for play from top to bottom....
Q: We just got a 98 cavalier and it makes a sound when we make a right turn. It also make the sound when we drive straight but you can barely here it. We were told by a family member that the bearings probably need greased. How do you do that? DOes it sound like the bearings to you? Thanks
It okorder , they have step by step directions. Just curious, how many miles are on the Cavalier?
Q: The question is For e.g. S47 °W ^How do I convert that to a true bearing??
Bearings are usually measured clockwise from true north, so S is 180°, and W is clockwise from there, so we would add 47° to 180° to get S47°W has a true bearing of 227°.
Q: when im parked on a flat surface my tires sit perfectly straight and look completely normal, then when i park on a small incline the tires and wheels spread t outward really bad, it turns and drives fine, it has 35 inch tires and 16.5 wheels and ive heard 4wd can cause it to do that but if anyone can give me some info thatd be AMAZING..lol-thanks
Could be wheel bearings, upper or lower ball joints... Either have an alignment shop check, or jack it up and check all of them yourself....
Q: I just bought new skateboard bearings, but there so slow. I have bought the same brand before but the It was way way faster, but on the one I bought before said 5 on the pack and on the new pack of the slow ones it says 7. ....the guy that sold it to me said the 7 ones would be faster???????
Indy bearings take a long time to break in. They use a thicker gel lube. You might want to clean them and lube with a light skate bearing lube. ABEC ratings have absolutely nothing to do with speed. It is a measure of tolerance and it only applies to applications where the rotational speed is over 10K RPM.
Q: I have basic car knowledge and I do my breaks every time they need to be done but I have never done the Bearings. Does anyone know how much they would cost to do the fronts and the time frame to do it. Also how easy is it to do?
It's really hard to answer your question without know the make ,model yr of the vehicle's,because on some of them you would have to change the wheel hub ,because the bearings are press into the hub.If you happen to have the rotors with the bearings inside of them ,the front bearing will just fall out once you remove the nut,the back one will need to be knocked out ,not hard to do.You will need a new grease seal for the back bearing
Q: Im just wondering how important it is to clean and regrease a cars wheel bearing. Working as a bicycle mechanic, this is something I do on a daily basis to every other bike we work on. And so Ive always wondered why I dont hear about wheel bearing going out on cars, or why I dont hear about having them serviced...Im assuming they are sealed bearings, but still it seems like they should need serviced every so often. I drive an early 90s ford truck, nothing fancy. Is this something I should consider doing, or should I not worry about it unless they start making noise? Thanks!
you rarely hear them going out on cars because most of the time the symptom gets disguised by worn brakes, when its the wheel bearing your brakes will get worn quicker, if you have a hub rotor designed for brakes then every time someone takes out the rotor they should have cleaned and repacked that rotor. if you have a floating rotor the bearings are pressed in and not really practical for servicing
Q: i have an 06 raptor 350 a friend of mine put new axle bearings and seals in it after he did the wheels did not want to turn i started it up and it didnt want to move after a few moments it started to but was holding back about a mile down the road it started grinding and popping like it did when the bearings went out the 1st time does anyone have any idea what he did wrong and what happened...
If the wheels didn't want to turn right after the new bearings were put in, they didn't go in right. Riding it like that was stupid (sorry, it was). The bearings will need to be replaced again, with new seals. And don't forget the grease. Hopefully no other damage was caused.
Q: whenever i ride my skateboard its really rough and doesnt go far at all. Is this because of my wheels or bearings and i have tried to put like WD-40......
its your bearings. Check to see if the bearings are bent inside the wheel, because that can slow you down tremendously. Also sometimes if they are new they needed to be breaking down and used and the more you use the bearings the faster you will go.
