- Q:I called sports authority to ask for a freewheel/cassette socket and some guy I talked with told me that the bearings are very hard to get to and to not even bother trying to clean and re-grease them. I told him that I have rode hundreds of miles and hear a slight squeak with my back tire so I think I should re-grease it. Also sometimes I get rained on.I don't really buy what he is saying judging from what seems to be common sense and also vids/stuff I have read. Thanks for any info
- Not true. Clean and repack grese at 2,000 miles or once a year.
- Q:So i have a longboard and the bearing it came with died on me. Changing my bearings for the first time, i had no idea what i was doing until i look to youtube. I did as they said but something fell out. It was my speed ring. So i changed themas i was told and i put the ring back on before the bolt. I dont know what i did but now it spins very fast but slows down IMMENSLY within 10 seconds of a spin test and stops abruptly. What happened? (note: i skated in the rain... Stupid me)
- Well if they are newer bearings you need to break them in what can take awhile depending on how much you skate... it can take a good day to a month or so just break them in and get them going... and from what I read online never use WD40 on them
- Q:I just bought new skateboard bearings, but there so slow. I have bought the same brand before but the It was way way faster, but on the one I bought before said 5 on the pack and on the new pack of the slow ones it says 7. ....the guy that sold it to me said the 7 ones would be faster???????
- Indy bearings take a long time to break in. They use a thicker gel lube. You might want to clean them and lube with a light skate bearing lube. ABEC ratings have absolutely nothing to do with speed. It is a measure of tolerance and it only applies to applications where the rotational speed is over 10K RPM.
- Q:I got a new bmx frame, my old one was flatland and looked funny on all my street parts.Anyway, i tried putting my old fork into the new frame, along with everything else to see if it would even fit. When i put in the fork, obviously it fit since its standard 1-1/8. However, once i tried pushing the fork all the way up, the bearings at the bottom wouldn't allow the fork to go any higher, they seem to big for the frame. i took the bearings out and tried the fork alone, the fork fits fine and looks like there is still space for bearings, but much smaller bearings. is there such a thing? smaller bearings? i thought it was all standard.. if there are i will simply go to the bike shop and buy these bearings.
- In the place you put the forks you’ll see cones at the ends of both the holes, perhaps these cones are too big for you bearings. For eg; imperial cones forks to new metric cones forks, Bike companies would probably do this so you can’t mix their bike parts with other bike parts which in resalting you to buy the parts off them. I know it can’t be the bearings because bike bearings are universal and as such make them all the same (rather than crank and rim cone bearings which are a lot bigger and smaller). My verdict is to take of the old cones on you old bike and put them on your new bike.P.S. the threads on your forks might not be long enough anyway
- Q:I have a racing bike. I've heard other racers using ceramic bearings in their wheels but not in their engines. Im based in Singapore btw.
- Sure can and any of the better riders will have them in their bikes as they produce less friction. A company called Black Mamba have them Just goes to show how outdated some peoples advice can be as I could list any number of professional riders who use ceramic bearings in their bikes as they do make a difference. In the here and now a standard crf250r is around 36.5 on a dyno and to make them competitive they need to become at least 43. The ceramic bearings make the bike rev up quicker and smoother and any person who is a dyno specialist can tell a bike that has ceramic bearings in it just by that alone. So it does make a difference. Oh and thanks for the thumbs down mr B and I must say I just loved your answer to the 6ft tall guy who has a klx125 and you told him that it was the best bike for him to start racing on. I can just see a 6ft tall guy turning up to a mx track on his kiddies bike and finding no section to race in and being laughed out of the place. Perhaps you should ask Chad Reed if he runs ceramic bearing as I know the answer to that one. The question was also can you run ceramic bearings, not should I.
- Q:The question is For e.g. S47 °W ^How do I convert that to a true bearing??
- Bearings are usually measured clockwise from true north, so S is 180°, and W is clockwise from there, so we would add 47° to 180° to get S47°W has a true bearing of 227°.
- Q:I'am reading a book written in the 20's and he mentions reciprocal bearings but google hardly recognizes the term. But after some hard-earned googling I think we refer to them today as internal shaft bearings. The way he describes them is: reciprocal bearings are used for reciprocating pumps, and similarly used in on the connection rods of large internal-combustion engines, and in many mechanisms operated by cams. Thanks.
- internal shaft bearing = internal shaft bearing JUST EXACTLY WHAT YOU WERE SAYING IN YOUR QUESTION !!!
- Q:How do i put bearings in a skateboard if i dont have a tool?
- You dont really need a tool, maybe something like a pen or knife to pop the old ones out, and then just puch the new ones in with your thumb. You should at least use a wrench to tighten the wheel nuts on though..
- Q:i have a 1994 toyota pick-up with the 3.0 engine 4wd. the main bearings went out and i called to see how much they would cost and the guy asked me what kind they were. and i had no idea. anyideas?
- There are different size bearings, they vary depending upon the wear of the crankshaft and if it has been previously resurfaced. All the bearings will have just about the same cost. You will have to disassemble the engine and check the clearances with plastigauge or micrometer to know which bearing sizes you need.
- Q:I was driving my 98 civic ex automatic around a corner, hit an icy patch and slid up on to the curb. (impact was on the passenger front tire) After the curb incident my left front end bounced up and down and when I would speed up the wheel started to shake back and forth.I drove home slowly and parked it and I am unsure wheat to do. The tire is not flat and it looks like two of the 4-lugs are sticking out further than the other two(?)...Does this sound like a case of broken ball bearings??If so, are they expensive/hard to fix??And, how long will this take at a shop??
- um there are no ball bearings ......sounds like u might have broke ur ball joint....but no way to tell without looking at the car..... if 2 of the studs are sticking out further u might have broken them or even bent the rim...... could b tire bubble could b unbalanced now could b alignment go knocked out of whack......tons of other things .... u most likely need to have some one look at it....... and not the idiot that told u ball bearings and probably not any one that they suggest.....good luck
