PORTLAND CEMENT

Portland cement is the most common type of cement in general use around the world, used as a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar, stucco, and most non-specialty grout.

It is a fine powder produced by heating materials in a kiln to form what is called clinker, grinding the clinker, and adding small amounts of other materials.

Several types of Portland cement are available with the most common being called ordinary Portland cement (OPC) which is grey in color, but a white Portland cement is also available.

Application

CNBM Cement can be used for all types of architectural or structural concrete construction. Such application as pre-cast panels and systems, cast-in-place, masonry units, tilt-up panel systems, roofing tiles, terrazzo floors, highway median barriers, tile grout, swimming pools, stucco, culture stone, colored masonry products, cement paints and coatings, and ornamental precast concrete items.

Q: What is cement?
In the most general sense of the word, cement is a binder, a substance which sets and hardens independently, and can bind other materials together.
Q: The walls behind my tub have rotted out, and I want to put it tile. I hear that you have to use cement backerboard because greenboard will just rot behind the tile. But all the stores around here don't sell it. I don't get it. Is this really what I need?
I carnt imagine how anything would rot behind tiles as the grout you need to use would be waterproof so im not too sure how anything could get behind there to rot them. Im no expert though, just done a lot of jobs on my home including tiling my bathroom.! We used plasterboard and tiled over the top.
Q: a small block of cement cost. Our driveway needs to be fixed, a 4x4 block has to be re poured.
Thats only 16 Sq. Ft. The problem is you will pay a high price for this small area because of the mobilization costs. I say around 200-250 dollars at a min. jock
Q: equipments used for cement making?
cement mixer, with sand, shingles and water in it!
Q: We are buying a house that already has ceramic tile floors (18 x 18 tiles) We would like to lay travertine instead. MY question is, Will the floor already have cement board underneath the existing ceramic tile since it was done professionally 10 years ago? Also the house is 2100 sq ft roughly, how much should just the tile and supplies cost? We already have a tile guy n mind but will buy all the supplies ourselves. Lastly, pros and cons of travertine?
nobody can venture a guess as to what the tile is set on even if there is cement board, depending on the type and how well the tile was installed there is no guarantee that it will still be reusable as an underlayment after the existing tiles are removed is it a slab home, meaning concrete floors under there or is it a wood frame house? travertine will cost about 5 dollars a square foot and up depending on size and grade just for the stone setting stone takes longer than ceramic tile and there for it costs more to install it will need to be sealed before and after grouting and occasionally for the rest of its life, higher traffic areas more often
Q: i know from other people, that you can buy this siding as cheap as $1.00 per SF, but where can i buy it from every store i checked its like $1.61 per SF,i live in WA 99352 ,if it helpsthanks
James Hardie company makes many cement board products for the building industry, including Hardi-Plank for siding, Hardi-backer to put behind tile or stone in damp areas, etc. Their products are all excellent quality, and are worth the cost -- I use them extensively. Cement board is heavy and somewhat brittle -- buy it locally from a quality vendor (Lowes, etc) and don't worry about the few cents difference between what you heard and what you see. You're getting excellent value, and freedom from unnecessary maintenance. Rejoice.
Q: I want use cement board 1/2quot; under my toilet and then use carpet to put over that. Is that a good idea? What are my options?
Cement board is harmless under the stool, but not very smooth. I had carpet in my bathroom for years and LOVED it!!!!!!!! I was a single guy back then with less than perfect cleaning skills. But the carpet was perfect for that. It was wall-to-wall throw carpet. When it looked bad, pick it up, throw it in the laundry, then back on the floor. It looked NEW any time I wanted! My wife cringes at the idea of carpet now, but she already knows that at our next house my bathroom will have carpet again. The carpet comes in a large piece. You draw out the footprint of the floor then cut it out with scissors. It's just like a throw rug. I really want it again! I would recommend slapping down cheap vinyl tiles under the carpet so you'll have a finished floor on laundry day.
Q: the concept is very difficult to understand wat is happening in the hydration of cement....its difficult catch up the points
To simplify and expand upon what the other answer said: Concrete becoming a solid isn't a matter of the mixture simply drying out. It is a chemical reaction between the water and the cement. The chemical reaction gives off heat during the process. We keep adding water to concrete during the curing process so that there is enough water in the mixture to completely react all of the cement, rather than allowing the heat to cause some of the water to evaporate before it gets a chance to react. The heat of hydration is the amount of energy given off (as heat) during the reaction.
Q: Quartz Arenite, Shale, Carbonatite, Greywacke, Limestone, Arkose, Altered Granite or Rhyolite?
Limestone is used in Portland cement. Powdered clay is mixed with powdered limestone and heated in a revolving kiln. This produces cement which is then combined with water, crushed rock and sand before pouring.
Q: I have a small very detailed cement dog which got really muddy. I have tried scrubbing it with a brush and warm water, but it still has a brown color that wasn't there before. I am afraid to use anything too harsh for fear of destroying some of the detail wrok.
try vinegar.. when in doubt - this is my first choice.. mix it 1/4 vinegar to 3/4 water and go from there....
