- Q:(PRIOR TO READING, I SUGGEST YOU LOOK AT THE IMAGES AS IT WILL MAKE THINGS A WHOLE LOT EASIER TO UNDERSTAND)I purchased 2 neons from Repco. That run off your cigerette lighter with an adaptor. They worked fine, until my friend got in my car, and accidentally dropped something on the adaptor which caused it to malfunction, and bam, my in-car neons (placed up under the dash, near where your feet rest) went out.
- wire is wire. If it really is silver then theoretically it should conduct electrcitiy better than copper. But that doesn't really matter much. wire is wire. all it needs to be able to do is carry the electrical current. If wiring truly is your problem, then that will work fine.
- Q:Quick question with hopefully an easy answer. I had a dimmer switch go bad on a light in a dining room. I bought a new switch and put it in. It was working fine, so I thought, then I noticed that when the dining room light is off, the dimmer works on everything else on the circuit, for example outside lights, hall lights, etc. I can dim all of those things when this switch certainly didn't do that before. Also, if the dining room light is on, all of the other things on the circuit I mentioned before do not work at all. I've obviously incorrectly wired the switch somehow, any thoughts on what I did incorrectly and how to fix?
- Funny to me but not for you! Not to worry I'll try to help you out, when you were replacing the switch it sounds to me that you crossed the hot and the switch leg. Open the switch up and turn the power off a the breaker before you go into the switch swap the leads by that I mean connect the leads from the top of the switch to the bottom of the switch and bottom to top hopefully this will solve your problem.
- Q:all my wires are cut and im trying to find the power/hot wire so that i dont fry anything....im trying to hook up a new radio
- Red is power, black is ground.
- Q:Hi, I've got two new appliances (range hood fan/light and bathroom exhaust fan). Both are installed but not wired. My house is older, build in 1940s and the previous appliances were wired using the existing copper wiring which runs through the house. I'd like to electrically install these new appliances but am concerned about connecting the new appliance wiring (aluminum wiring i think?) to the copper wiring in the house. Is it safe to pigtail these two wires together? Or is there a better, more safe method? Thanks
- Yes, that is the method that is used. Both are fairly easy to hook up. EDIT: @ 'Intelligent' Pickle: That link is talking about solid aluminum HOUSE wiring being integrated with solid copper wire. The OP has normal solid COPPER wiring in the house. The aluminum wires are on the fan/light, and range hood. From my several years experience as a plumber and ELECTRICIAN, those wires are stranded, not solid. The tapered threads inside a normal wire nut will make a good connection and hold those wires until doomsday. EDIT: Yes, I edited my answer for clarification, and to educate you in reality. You edited your post just to shout a childish insult. It appears that you don't take correction well. Good luck with that as you grow up. @ dtstellwagen: I have seen new fixtures that are wired with stranded aluminum wire.
- Q:I just learned how to do 3-way wiring, so that I can turn a light off from 2 different switches. My question is, how do I add another light to that mix, so that both lights come on/go off at the same time when I turn the switches on and off? (It's for a closet that has 2 lights in it that I want to come on/go off at the same time).
- Very basically, you must have two wires going from light to light. A black wire and a white wire.( A bare copper wire should be included with the pair. It is a ground wire and grounds both light boxes together.) Back to the black and white wires. The black wire should be connected to the black switch leg wire at the first light box as well as to the first light fixture. The white wire is the neutral and should be connected to the white wire of both light fixtures. That's called a parallel connection. Just a note: There are several ways to wire three way switches, so my answer presumes there are two wires going from one of the switches directly to the light fixture. (A white wire and a black wire).
- Q:A wire is 1.5 m long and has a diameter of 1.5 mm. The stretch modulus of the wire is 6.2 x 10^10 N/m^2. If a force of 400 N is applied to end of the wire then the increase in length of the wire is???please help, thanks
- The stretching of wire by longitudinal force: If F force applied across the crosectional area A of wire of radius r and lenght L then the wire elaogates in the dirextion of force Stress P = F / A A = pi* r^2 = (1.5/2)*10^-3 = 7.5 *10^-4 m^2 strain produced = dL / L = increase in length / original L Young's modulus or elastic (stretch) modulus for the maretial, within elastic limits, Y = stress/strain strain = stress / Y dL = F * L / A * Y = F * L / pi (r^2) * Y dL = 400* 1.5 / 3.14 (7.5 *10^-4)^2 * 6.2*10^10) meter dL = 0.005479 * meter dL = 5.479 millimeters increase in length
- Q:Having some trouble wiring fixture it seems to just stay on with the switch doing nothing.. here's the deal I have three different wires coming from ceiling power in, power out, and I believe switch.. there was a priovious light there so I know its correct just don't what wires go with what all help will be appreciated thanks
- You have the incoming hot wired to the light, bypassing the switch. If you don't know what you're doing, get someone that does.
- Q:I need the wiring harness color codes for a stock radio in an 08 ford mustang. an original forum i looked at said that there would be a green and purple one but i didn't see that. Please help!!
- Ford Radio Wiring Harness
- Q:-note-NOT . resistance wire.resistance OF A wire :)lol sorry, just had so many people give me resistance wire.thats not what i want :Li want ..what is the resistance of a wire?its for my science :) pleasee help

- Q:i have a 92 saturn and bought the wire harness, i put all the wires together and all that turned on was the theft light that comes on when you take off the face after that i tried putting the red and yellow wires together and it worked, just without the key having to be in the ignition and i think that is why the stereo gets so hot so can youall tell me how to wire it correctly?
- The red is the main power or acc power that comes on when car key is turned. The yeallow is for the memory for radio. Another word when u store a preset radio station that yellow wire supplies continues power to store mem for ever or untill u have to change batt. The reason y it worked when u hooked yellow and red to gether is they where both getting power. If one dosent get power it will no work. Check radio fuses for the yellow wire to see if it out. If u have manuel to car that would help. I had a mustang that with the yellow wire was dead i traced the wire tried to find the prob but could not. I ran a wire from batt to radio where the yellow wire hooked up. That is the same thing just try to keep the wire away from hot areas and door jams try to runn it through the firewall of the car.
