- Q: How can I repair an enamel coated headphone wire? In other words, how can an enamel coated wire be reconnected; i.e. how is the enamel coating stripped off, and what can I use to recoat it so that it won't short?
- Strip off the coating to expose bare metal where you would to slice (reconnect) new wires. Twist them or soldier them together. The wires will not short unless they come in contact with electricity-conducting materials, including human flesh. Hardware stores sells paint just for wires, but you don't have to go such extremes. Just put some tape it or cover it with any other non-conductive materials.
- Q: I just read an article about a man who was electrocuted by a live overhead wire while trimming a tree. Horrible. My question is I see squirrels running on all the overhead wires. How do they not get electrocuted?
- Electrocution happens when electricity finds a way to ground. Squirrels are not grounded so they don't get shocked. Ever watch the Discovery channel? They've shown how the power company works on high voltage lines without shutting the power off. A helicopter hovers next to the power line while a technician reaches out to the power line with a probe. Once contacted the helicopter and the technician are at the same potential voltage so nobody gets shocked. However, during approach they are NOT at the same potential. That's the reason for making contact with he wire with a probe first. So that the technician doesn't take a big hit when he first touches the live wire. So squirrels, birds, rats - anything that can land on the wires doesn't get electrocuted. But if an animal touches the wire AND ground (or another wire), it's all over in a blinding flash. - Wired is better. While there is no lag, the battery wearing out in the middle of a game is kind of annoying. If you move too far away from the console, the wireless will not perform.

- The spec on the wires includes enough strength to handle reasonable loads, such as snow and wind and ice. Actually snow is a very light load, compared to ice and wind. Usually they are a steel core with aluminum around it. The aluminum handles the current, the steel the mechanical loads.

- I'm not sure I understand how you're trying to hook this up. It sounds like you've got two pairs of black and white wires? Were these installed with the intention of supporting a 220 volt device? You really should be seeing a black and a red wire, and measuring 220 volts between them. Try measuring between the two black wires - you'll either get 220 volts, or nothing (if they're on the same leg). What connections are available at the heater, and how are they labeled?
- Q: The spark plug wire on my dirt bike needs to be replaced because it was touching the exhaust and it burned through.I was wondering if the ignition coil and spark plug wire are one piece and need to both be replaced or is there someway to disconnect spark plug wire? - The Remote wire is a wire (usually Blue or Blue/White) that comes out the rear of the Head Unit (CD Player) that supplies a +12V output when the Headunit is powered up and switches off when the Headunit is powered down. Some head units have a Remote and System Remote, in this type of system the system remote is as described and the Remote switches on and off when you switch between Radio and CD, this feed is usually used for an electric antenna or to power a booster.. -Daz

- Magnet wire is just solid copper with a layer of varnish for insulation. Speaker wire would work, but you could not wind the wire as tightly due to the thicker insulation. also the wire is very flexible and will not stay in place very well. Also, if the coil gets hot, the insulation on the Speaker wire will start to burn or melt. .

- Since your ceiling wires are not standard, we can only guess. Chandelier: Black = hot White = neutral Green/Yellow = ground Ceiling: Black = hot (connect to the chandelier black wire) Bare = ground (connect to the chandelier green/yellow wire) Red is usually the color code for power that is controlled by a wall switch. Yellow - I have no earthly idea. Could be a 2nd switch controlled wire. You need to get a test meter to see what wire has power 100% of the time (hot), what wires have power part of the time (via wall switch) and what wire(s) have no power at all (ground/neutral wires).
