Q: I'm assembling a computer, and I noticed that the motherboard has a port for a ATX 12V 2x4 connector (the black-yellow one that goes by the CPU, and has 8 pins). The best I can come up with from the power supply is a 2x3 connector, which only fills 6 of the 8 pins, or just the standard 2x2, filling only 4 of the 8. Will it work with either of these alternate options? As for testing it, the worst thing that can happen is that the computer doesn't turn on from being underpowered and I need to get a new power supply, right? Am I at any risk of damaging anything?
There could be 2 potential connectors on your motherboard; one for the 4 / 8 pin, and the different for the optimum 20 + 4 pin. Your pc shouldn't even activate without them the two plugged in.
Q: I have a ton of CAT5e RJ45 connectors I would like to crimp onto CAT6 cable - TECHNICALLY they are not CAT6 but do not see much of a difference. I have done a few already with no prbs but have many more to do and don't want to have to redo them. My CAT6 is SOLID and the connectors are for solid and not stranded.
The connectors will not be rated for higher speeds but to be honest the difference is unlikely to be significant over such a short distance. The biggest problem you are likely to face is mechanical when fitting the connectors in the first place - category 6 cable is quite a bit thicker than category 5e.
Q: I have been looking at some components to build my own desktop computer. I have found many motherboards that have everything I need but it doesn't tell me weather it has a connector for the power button on the Chassis. I assume that every motherboard has one of these and there is no need to list it. Is this correct? Thanks for any help! (I relies this is probably a really stupid questions but I just want to be sure before I spend money on computer stuff cause there is always that risk!)
There is no SPECIFIC connector that connects the motherboard to the power button. There is a big cable (usually many colored wires together) that has all the buttons in one. (power, reset, LED's) Look at your motherboards manual.
Q: I have an Asus L5Q pro ATX motherboard.i'm a little confused about the power connectors.there's a 24 pin connector and an 8 pin connector.but the 8 pin connector has 4 of the pins plugged with apiece of plastic.my Antec PSU has the 20+4 pin connectors and one more 4 pinis is acceptable to use the 20+4 pin on the main power connector, and just have 4 pins connected for the other one?
is is acceptable to use the 20+4 pin on the main power connector, and just have 4 pins connected for the other one? I have the asus p5q pro just like you. Use the 20+4 pin for the main motherboard power connector. If you only have a 4 pin plug it in and it will work. If you have an 8-pin you can safely remove the cover and plug it in. It's really for your convenience of what you have available.
Q: Can one connect an ipod in one of these cars to listen to mp3s on the car stereo system?
When you use an iPod as a source for your car audio system, it only means you couldn't afford any purpouse-built mp3 storage. Ferrari and Lamborghini customers do not have such limitations.
Q: I don't have any old computers i can salvage or anything like that. I've looked at most of the major electronics stores in my areas sites, and none of them offer the connectors either.
Not sure what you mean by a female USB connector any USB extension cable has both a male and a female end. Do you want both ends female? What are you trying to do? Maybe what you're looking for is a USB gender changer? You might have to buy them online if you can't find them in a store.
Q: HelloI've just replaced the power supply in my Gateway (420GR) due to a bad fan in the otherwise working old supply. With the new supply, the fans only spin-on (all case, cpu, and ps fans) only when the P4 connector is not attached. (the keyboard lights go on for a second as on reboot but then the mouse and keyboard show no life) When the P4 connector is attached, the fans begin to spin (for a very small moment) and then stop. In neither case does the system seem to boot. This behavior is experienced with both the new power supply and the ond supply, but only after the old supply was re-installed. Before the supply upgrade, there were no issues with the system.Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this issue?
Three possibilities come to mind. 1. It sounds like it could be a cabling issue. Either something's not plugged in that should be, or something is plugged in that shouldn't be. Don't know that motherboard or what types those power supplies are so I don't know what should or shouldn't be plugged in. I do know that my Intel board had two different ways it could be setup depending on whether you were using a PSU with a 24-pin motherboard connector or a 20-pin connector. 2. Something came loose while removing the old PSU. Check to make sure that everything from the video card to the CPU is properly connected/seated. 3. Worst case scenerio, when you removed the old PSU something happened to damage the system. (For example, did you unplug the computer from the wall and wait a minute before starting to unplug stuff? Did you use a grounding strap? Did you get a static electric shock at any time while working on the system?) Maybe, just maybe, the CPU's fried? If you can't fix it yourself, I'd recommend taking it in to a computer repair shop and have them examine it. Edit: Or try the above response 'cause he sounds like he knows a lot more about it then me.

Q: I have bought a computer Power SupplyUnfortunately all of the connectors are SATA and my drives are all Molex PinI know that I can use the SATA wires and combine it with a spare Molex connector that I also haveWhat color of the wires will I combine with the 4 wires of the Molex, I remember my 1 or 2 wires of the SATA will be disregard I'm just not sure what color of the wire it isthanks guys!!!
have you ever made functional which you have each and all of the means connectors appropriate to the motharboard? the 20/4 pin one (the long one) and the 4(or 8) pin connection? make functional that the cpu fan is securly appropriate to the motherboard aswell, and interior the surprising slot, some wont start up in the event that they detect no fan. and in reality you would be wanting to have the means replace button's connection on the impressive pins on the motherboard in case you place it mutually your self. (and in reality you would be wanting to didnt knock something loose as quickly as you place the PSU in)
