- Q: I am looking into buying this chair because I think it is beautiful! I plan on reupholstering it in some colorful fabric. She says there are no markings except for a sticker that claims it was reupolstered in 1987 or 1977 hard to read. There are 2 wheels on the front 2 legs. Other than that I do not know much about it. - this is a nice looking chair and the wood stained finish is good == do not change the finish of the wood .... a trip to the fabric store or maybe two trips will help you search for a needlepoint tapestry scene fabric to recover the back and seat and the rear of the seat back == you really do not want to do any colorful fabric as this will not be the style of such a nice chair ....the value of the chair may well be over $500.00 but you should follow your heart as far as price Be careful that it is [[ in fact ]] over 100 years old .. look at the chair and determine if you can see signs of it being a totally symetrical carved by hand wooden chair -- the wood carving of the top seat back does indicate to me that it was done by hand = most 100 to 150 year old furniture has a rubbed glossy finish and the photo does not show that === I have looked at well over 1000 chairs and did not find anything even close to your pick == just try the local library for books of antique chairs and furniture === if you like the chair and it suits your needs and you can afford the chair .... buy and enjoy .....
- Q: There are some chairs at office depot that has this feature. I plan on buying one for moderate home usage. They state that you should lower the tension for lighter people and raise the tension for heavier people. But exactly how does the feature help prolong th elife of the chair. - Get a new chair. A good chair is important. Do NOT skimp on a chair if you plan on working in it. Don't break the bank, but don't skimp. Same is true for shoes, flooring, kitchen knives or anything you need on a daily basis. Cheap things are cheap for a reason. My parents taught me long ago to get nice things, keep them a long time and spend the money once. You'll be happier and it is less expensive in the long run. That said, price can be indicative of quality, but it is never a MEASURE of quality. A $60 chair probably won't fit well or last long. A $500 dollar chair is a rip off or some art-deco thing that doesn't aid your comfort any. Shop around and you'll find something.

- Try oberving other chairs and their designs * Metal chairs work because part of the back feet hold the back * Plactic chairs have L shapes Legs, kinds balancing the weight * Other plastic chairs have 2 L shapes in the legs....I can't explain without a picture. * Another method is instead of using four legs, it only uses two sides. From side view, they look like rectangles kinda leaning to the back. From the front, they look like a square being pressed down ( Big down, small up) My advice - Observe other designs.
