- Q: My mother in law is trying to sell the home we currantly live in and needs to put new carpet in and I have heard mixed reviews about it.. I live in a townhouse and there isnt a lot of windows to vent air.. What should I do?
- We too are putting in new vinyl flooring and carpet during my Christmas break from work when I will be about 7 months pregnant. We did laminate in the living room, hall and master bedroom this summer when I was first pregnant and I painted our new master walk-in closet! I think I would be more concerned with the germs and filth lurking in the old carpet than anything from the new carpet! It's not a concern at all! Invisible - it really takes all kinds on here! Some people just can't handle a common sense answer! Edit - I forgot to mention, you may want to use the day the carpet is ripped up as an excuse to go to the spa or shop. Our carpet was ok when we ripped it up (obviously the first owner was an excellent housekeeper) BUT when they ripped up my brothers, there was literally inches of sediment from either dirt, powdered rug fresheners and who knows what else that was even through the underpad. That would not be good to inhale.

- I would contact a high end rug store in your area (the kind that sells persian, antigue rugs etc) or even by emai or phonel:Larger cities have many (such as NY, Atlanta, LA). Generally, the rugs might need to be cleaned prior to storage as grime dirt help to break down the fibers. Then they must be rolled (never folded) and put into unbleached muslin bags for cleanliness. Cleaning must be done by someone especially trained to work on vintage, collectable rugs (again this info can be gotten at a fine rug store).

- I liked the rug you returned, but do not think the rug size is large enough for the room. You do need some colour...try some accent pillows in a deeper colour of the sage on your wall..you will have to be careful on the colours..autumn colours could work well, but keep the reds more of a salsa red...if your paint colour has a grey undertone, then many red shades will not work well with it, but you can go more for the blues and golds/yellows like a mediterranian colour. Curtains (floor length) are a great starting point .... something patterned in the colours you like...light and airy ones that can go over your blinds so you still have the blackout you desire from the blinds. Pick out colours from your curtains to use in the pillow covers and some coloured glass vases or accent pieces. Lamps or scones will add a lot to the room too.
- Q: My uncle was given a (real) polar bear rug by a little old lady, and it's vintage. We'd like to sell it, but we have no idea where to start. It's incredibly creepy to have this poor dead thing hanging out in your garage. Is it legal to sell it in the US? - sort of like scratching posts cats are attracted to the texture of it and it might be more easy to sleep on that and stretch out by just digging his claws into the mat rather then having to get up and do it else where. I believe its great your cat isn't sleeping on your bed (mine do and I have to be constantly be cleaning it to avoid pollution). my cat likes to sleep on sheets of paper on the floor lol

- Using 2% soap alcohol liquor to wipe, after mixing up, smear it at the stains, it has a good effect to get rid of mould. Using gasoline to scrub can remove grease. Wine stains on the clothes, or mix glutinous rice and detergent well, after freezing, the chew gum will become crispy, the gum stains or merbromin stains on walls or other items, and then put the clothes to soak in cold water. If there are still some dirty places, you can remove the stains, and then use soap or alcohol to wash.
- Q: Its been about 24 hours since we cleaned the carpet ourselves with a rented machine but the carpet is still wet in places. Should we give it more time? Its cool in the basement, but hot and humid outside. I'm guessing opening windows is not a good idea?

- Q: We have carpet in our kitchen, that's right CARPET! We want the carpet out and purchased some vinyl flooring to replace it. However we just found out that the carpet is GLUED down and therefore a much bigger project to remove it than we once thought. So, we were wondering if the vinyl can be installed on top of the carpet. Like I said the carpet is glued down and it is very low and smooth there is very little give to it when you walk on it.
- I would not recommend it. I know it's a daunting task to remove carpet that has been glued down, but It's the only way you can do that project correctly. My basement has a low profile carpet that has also been glued down and I've put off that project for years because I knew it was going to be a lot of work and time consuming, but will be worth it in the end. I have to go through the same thing soon, so good luck to you!
