- Q: We are going to re-carpet my grandmothers living room, but she is very sensitive to smells. Is there a certain kind of carpet with limited quot;new carpet smellquot;?
- there are some carpets that don't off-gas as much smell, but here's a tip that interior designers do for commercial installations: As soon as the carpet is laid, close all the windows tight and turn the heat up really high 90 if you can, let the heat run for at least a few hours, overnight is best. This will burn up 90% of the new carpet smell, its also good for anytime you paint, vanish, or glue. Then turn the heat down and open a few windows and let some fresh air in. This is done in most large commercial buildings before people occupy it since industrial carpets, glue, and paint are a little more toxic. Sometimes they'll let it bake for 24 hours to get rid of any smells. Otherwise it may take a few weeks for the smell to go away
- Q: I just spilled coke on the cream colored carpet and just scrubbed it down with a wet wash cloth thoroughly. The problem is that I don't know if it will stain when it dries. How can I get the stain out if it occurs without ruining the carpet. I live in an apartment and don't want any damage.
- Pour club soda on the spill as soon as possible and cover the spot with clean, light-coloured towels or rags and stand on them. Continue to pour and absorb until all the colour from the stain has been blotted up and the towel is coming up clean. Follow up with a good carpet stain remover. When you spot-clean carpet, never rub, as it will only spread the stain and will cause abrasion to the carpet fibers. If the stain is old still try the club soda---it will lighten the stain. After using your carpet spotter, if the stain is still present, saturate with hydrogen peroxide or undiluted lemon juice. Wait 15 minutes to blot. Continue to apply making sure you aren't lightening the carpet. For red wine stains use white wine and salt and follow with club soda and carpet spotter.

- No, You can use bleach, don't like bath it in it.. but bleach is fine. If it is dear to you, try using OxyClean or some similar bleach substitute, bleach is damaging over time to anything, but for now bleach will be fine if thats all you have.

- Your new carpet is doing a natural thing .. It s called pilling and fuzzing. Very common in staple type carpet. Most carpets are staple products. It will stop shortly unless there a defect in the carpet ( rare but it happens) Defiantly keep vacuuming. It s the best thing for carpets. Manufactures actually say to vacuum every day( YEAH LIKE THATS GOING TO HAPPEN LOL) GL
- Q: I've read you shouldn't put them on hardwood because it doesn't allow the wood to breath or something along those lines. Secondly, if you use a rug without the rubber backing do you have to use a pad so it doesn't slide and scratch the floor?Thanks
- Ok you are absolutely right about not having rubber backed rugs on hard wood. First , yes it doesn t allow the wood to breath and on certain finishes it will permanently stain the finish. And if you go w/o a rubber backed carpet, the other posters are right about a matt. BUT It must be the matting made for hard wood to allow it to breath. They make a few different types and sizes ( so know your rug size) These will do there job, collect dust and lose there griping power after a few months. Toss in the washer to renew the tackiness(leaves no residue) and your good to go again Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL

- if the carpet is detachable, put it outside under the sun, if not, spray some freshener.

- You okorder ... Make sure you use the Graffiti formula, not the Original. The Original formula doesn't work on ink. Krud Kutter doesn't smell bad, it's non-toxic, and the bottle will last you forever. Hope this helps. -

- no not really id be looking to to a shampooer my self i know for a fact that the new kirby has a shampoo system that you can get with it may be a little out of the budget for some but it works wonders and ya dont have to get the vac out and vac the floors then get the shampooer its all one system just change the heads and the bag and away you go its grate ...
