Q: bought home, tiles loose in shower, wonder if water damage is behind it
If water can get behind them, it probably has. I suggest you take the tiles down ASAP. Water in a bathroom can cause MOLD. Depending on your state, if it is moldy back there you can hold the previous owner's responsible. Don't risk your health!
Q: We just had tile intalled in our home. What products do you use (or recommend) to clean tile? On a regular basis? Spill/Accident basis? Also, can anyone recommend a good cordless sweeper (for tile of course)?
things you’ll favor: Oxygen bleach Water Knee help Step a million: be particular you positioned an overhead fan on if once you're cleansing your ceramic tiles. if you're cleansing in any tiny elements, that is critical to go away the door open. Fumes can make you ill if you're making use of excellent chemical compounds. Step 2: Get some thing delicate for once you're kneeling. you'd be doing a tremendous variety of kneeling and scrubbing in the course of the cleansing. Step 3: purchase oxygen bleach for cleansing the tiles. The powder is non-poisonous. Oxygen bleach can help sparkling your grout and make your flooring sparkle. Step 4: blend the bleach with some water. enable the bleach to sit down down on the floor for 30-60 minutes. practice a number of this blend to the elements of the floor you want to sparkling. you may also use this bleach on counter tops. Step 5: Scrub the grout in a mild way till it turns into spotless. you should use a tooth brush or another variety of brush to scrub the grout. Step 6: Rinse your floor with water to sparkling any residue from the oxygen bleach. Use towels to shine your floor and delivers it sparkle.
Q: should i put tile in my kitchen if im gonna put wood floors in rest of my house ? or should i put the wood floors all through out ?? does it look ok with tile and wood transition ??
Hi, In a survey of real estate agents they said that homes with hardwood sold for more and faster. I think it is a matter of personal preference as to what you use. I think any tasteful quality product helps the resale of your home. I personally have hardwood in my kitchen and love it. I also have tile in my bathrooms and entryway and love tile there. The tile stands up to all the water in a bathroom and all the dirt in the mudroom that gets dragged in. The tile in the entryway comes right up to to tile in the kitchen and looks great. I personally do not want tile in my kitchen as it is not very forgiving when something is dropped. I spend a lot of time on my feet in the kitchen and find tile to be a hard surface on your back and legs. Both have a long life but hardwood is more susceptible to damage. It can be sanded and refinished but it is costly. Hardwood you do need to wipe up spills right away and should have an area rug by your sink especially if you have kids that do dishes like mine water all over. I have had my hardwood for over 12 years and it still looks great. Hope this helps.
Q: Some red nail polish was spilled on my tile bathroom floor. What can I use to remove it? Nail polish remover would be an obvious choice, but it only removes the glob of polish and not the color. Any suggestions?
Tile comes many different ways. Is it natural stone like travertine or slate? It could also be ceramic or porcelain. Each product holds up differently. In any event, I hope it's a sealed or glazed product. If it doesn't have a glaze and is still porous, you're not getting the polish out. If the tile has a texture, you won't be able to scrape anything out either. Bleach won't help. I'm afraid that if the nail polish remover doesn't get it out, it may be permanent. The only thought I can offer is to get more of the same color grout that was used between the tiles. If your tile is porous or isn't smooth, there may already be grout on the surface of the tile. Regrouting the tile may help hide the nail polish. Sorry!
Q: My husband and I just purchased a condo. We want to retile the bathroom in a more modern looking tile or maybe a marble or some kind of fancy tile. We are going to do it ourselves. Where can we find good prices on the tile?
I would shop around for price, because the more prettier the tile the more expensive it gets. Your options are variable. You can lay down linoleum too that offers a great look. Less mess and elegant quality looks. If you have your mind made up on tile you will have fun doing it. I've done several bathroom floors. Removing the old tile is a bummer and messy. You have to remove the toilet as well. Then clean it up and stick down your new tile and chip it good around the toliet drain. Then grouting it is fun. Put your toilet back and bolt it down. always replace the wax ring if you pull that toilet and use two of them. This way you will never , never have to pull that toilet again for leaks. Try Lowes and see what they carry on for tile. Shop around and if you have to leave the town and try other towns especially small towns where sales are down and prices are down. Small towns don;t do much business and will offer a great linf of tile cheaper than Lowes or any other outlet. Look up carpet chains and chekc with them also. They carry a good line of tile cheap.
Q: Can you put linoleum over tile?
NO!, u can not lay linoleum over tile..it requires a flat smooth surface to bond to.......if ceramic tile just clean them, many products at lowes that will do it,.......if stick on tile just apply new stick on tile but off set the joints from the old ones! lic. gen contractor
Q: I‘m trying to re-tile two small bathrooms. One is ~20 sf. The other is ~35 sf. I already have the tile, don‘t want any special designs, and have normal rectangular shaped bathrooms with a toilet on one wall (i.e. very few weird cuts). There is already tile on the floors that will have to be taken up. How much should I expect to pay to get someone to install it?
Tile labor varies but you can plan on 4/5$ a S/F not a s/y.. This won t include prep or rip out or any setting materials. That depends exactly what needs to be done.Rip out will vary too depending on just how the tiles are set now. I ve done rip outs that have taken an hr and have done ones that size that have taken all day. So have an installer look at the rip out part and quote a set price so both of you know on the rip out. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q: Marco Polo tiles have several manufacturers
Marco Polo In fact, the quality is generally the main advertising is good they are basically in the production of others and then marked their own brand in several parts of the country have produced in Shandong, Shandong
Q: Kitchen is open to living area. Kitchen has tile already and living room has carpet. We want replace carpet wit hardwood if it look right, or should we just tile it all. Entry way from frony door is tile then living room begins with carpet then kitchen begins with tile.
The tile must end at some normal spot as a cut off point. If the carpet and tile had flowed from one to the other, then wood will flow just as well.. The same would work for continuing tile since you ll have a different tile or a shade match problem it your able to get the exact same tile flowing from one to another.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.. GL
Q: My father wanted to replace the tiles in the master bathroom as he plans on putting the house on the market. I was skeptical whether or not he could accomplish the project and after hitting several snags I‘ve decided to get involved. The problem is that the old tile was removed and there‘s only 7/8 - 1 to work with. The new tile is 3/8 thick; leaving 1/2. His original plan was to lay down plywood, cement board, then tile, however, it‘s going to raise the floor a solid 1 which will cause several complications. Any advice on what the #$@* I‘m supposed do? I truly appreciate all of your help.
Once you pull up the tiles and the old and get to the original subfloor you can put your backerboard directly on that. You don't need an extra layer of plywood. If you feel the subfloor is not sufficient you need to replace it too. If the subfloor is sturdy it is okay to put down a layer of thinset, then put down your backer, then screw the backer and fill the seams with thinset and the appropriate seam tape. Then lay your tiles like normal.
