Q: the bathroom at work has lenulium sheet. I slip when it rains, b cos it is wet. I want to replace home carpeting with tiles or vynal. which one is less slippery? thanks
ther in none slip for both products. shop around
Q: My dad layed tiles in his kitchen recently. He had some plywood type stuff that he layed them on top of so they are on a flat, even surface. But then someone told him he should have put a netting type stuff underneith the tiles too, to keep them from breaking. Is that very important, will his floor be ruined now?
Its called wire mesh. Its not used as much anymore. What makes tiles or grout crack is the wood below the tiles. If the floor joists are too far apart and the plywood is not thick enough it can cause the floor to move. Even a little bit of movement can cause the tiles and the grout to crack. The wire mesh will not help if the floor moves.
Q: does any one know where to find any harvest gold bathroom tiles?? it was a color that was big in the 70‘s but it is almost impossible to find it now in stores..does anyone know of any stores or webites that sell them please let me know i need them for replacements
At one time there were a few reclamation stores that bought and sold old discontinued tile lots , but they didn t do well..You may now have to use a complementing color or just a white to replace .. If you have any tile at all I can help you tell what type and whos tile it was to get replacements to fit, since there are a couple of different sizes in the 4x4 tile ( which is what I assume you have to replace). Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there.. GL
Q: I now want to match the tile and extend it into my living room and dining area. How would I go about finding the same tile?
Doubtful you find an exact match. Tile is produced in runs or lots. The same line from the same manufacturers, may look very different from different runs. Contact the installer and see if he recalls the tile name and retailer. Doubtful, too. But worth a shot. Whatever you find out, you are going to have to get some samples from the retailer or wholesaler and take them home to match them with the tile in the den. If there is a break at the door then it may not be so noticeable if the runs are different. The other problem is if they installed metal edge trim, it is difficult to remove without breaking tile. Your best option may be to go with a different tile or stone, or a different flooring all together like hardwood. Don't rule that out, it may be a viable plan B, if the you can't get a satisfactory match. And yeah, the installer should have left a few extra pieces.
Q: I‘m tiling a bathroom counter and have all my supplies but not sure I purchased the right trowel. I purchased a square-notched trowel 1/4x1/4x1/4. What is the difference between this one and the one I see commonly used on tv and on other tiling jobs...the razor tooth edge type?
If you are setting your tiles with thinset mortar, you have the correct trowel. If you are using a mastic glue, then you nee the smaller notched trowel probably 1/8 by 1/8. Thinset needs more thickness for the material to properly bond. If spread too thin it will dry to a power form and fail rather quickly. In the years that I worked in commercial and residential flooring, we always used the 1/4 notched trowel for thinset and 1/8 trowel for all glues. I hope this helps to answer your question.
Q: I just cant figure it out i must have wasted 10 pieces of tile trying the tile that is currently laid on the floor..it hasnt been cut at all to get it to fit..and its not two pieces..its one piece of tile that has 2 circles cut into it that fit perfectly that looks like the radiator was picked up and the legs placed into the holeshow do i do this? i know you are SUPPOSED to cut the tile in half and them put it back together..but..im just curious if there is a way im not thinking about??
You have to buy a pair of tile nippers. And to be quite frank, the holes were probably drilled their first but, you have to score your tile in half and nip half circles in either one to replace it. In this case, you have to score your tile in thirds and mark where the holes should be and gently nip your half circles. A little at a time. Try this, get a piece of tile and mark where the holes should be and using a hole saw( a round saw that fits on a drill, a little larger than the existing pipe)then drill your holes While squirting water on it at the same time to prevent friction and when this is done, score your tile from the center of each hole. This should do the trick.
Q: well I burned a small hole in a linoleum tile. How do I fix it?
The easiest way I have found to remove a single tile is to get a large pot of water boil it and set on top the the tile you want to replace. The heat from the pot will make the tile soft and very pliable. Take a box cutter and cut a x in the center of the tile (it will be as easy as cutting through carboard, tear up the tile it will come up in 4 pieces assuming you cut the X) scrape the glue with a metal putty knife re-apply new adhesive and lay the new tile. good luck
Q: Remodeling a bathroom, using 4x4 ceramic wall tiles and have an old porcelain wall-mount sink.QUESTION: Do I put screws through the tile and put the mount OVER the tile, hanging the sink that way OR do I hang the sink on the untiled wall and tile around it?Thanks for your help!
1-locate studs / eye balling as well for centering of bracket 2- cut hardwood strip to match wall mounting bracket' {2x as thick as tile, this allows for a good thick bead of caulking counter sunk, so to speak around behind the sink, thus hiding the sealer /after step #10 } 3-drill screw strip to wall, being conscious to : set the screws so they are offset to sink bracket's screw placement. 4- attach wall bracket 5- practice hang sink/ checking the fit 6-NOW, draw a pencil line tracing the sink 7- remove sink 8-TILE TIME [LOL] Now you can tile up to the bracket [wasting tiles].NO! Now it gets easy! This method reduces your tile cutting. 9- Tile the wall, using FULL tiles up to the pencil mark {if it is :LESS than 1/2 a tile to the Line , slap a full tile on , if you want 10- { 1/2 a tile inside the trace mark is plenty, if you don't want to be bothered cutting you don't have to . Note: Leave the edge here , till your done all your other tile ,'cause you might have good 1/2 or 3/4 pieces that you can trim it with}...Or just go back and put full tiles to cover. Hope this helps! ..hang sink, caulk top, done!
Q: Now very popular tile 80X80 pink above the tea stains, how can effectively remove the tea stains?
Use salt and toothpaste to wipe off the rust on the white tiles. Dip a small amount of salt and toothpaste with a wet gauze and wipe the rust on the white tiles with a gauze dipped in salt and toothpaste. The effect is remarkable. The effect is not significant, then you can squeeze some toothpaste to wipe. When your home in the basin after use, there is a bad oil to remove, with toothpaste can also be scrubbed, not only the effect is remarkable, and eliminates the need to scrub the basin with a steel ball scratches. ? The answer was adopted by users
Q: My father wanted to replace the tiles in the master bathroom as he plans on putting the house on the market. I was skeptical whether or not he could accomplish the project and after hitting several snags I‘ve decided to get involved. The problem is that the old tile was removed and there‘s only 7/8 - 1 to work with. The new tile is 3/8 thick; leaving 1/2. His original plan was to lay down plywood, cement board, then tile, however, it‘s going to raise the floor a solid 1 which will cause several complications. Any advice on what the #$@* I‘m supposed do? I truly appreciate all of your help.
Once you pull up the tiles and the old and get to the original subfloor you can put your backerboard directly on that. You don't need an extra layer of plywood. If you feel the subfloor is not sufficient you need to replace it too. If the subfloor is sturdy it is okay to put down a layer of thinset, then put down your backer, then screw the backer and fill the seams with thinset and the appropriate seam tape. Then lay your tiles like normal.
