- Q: my floor tile has a crack so i replaced one tile with the same exact tile but but the new tile looks different how do i make the new tile look like the old tile
- Try to select such colors which matches the old one so that looks same. If still not working then take help from experienced professionals.
- Q: Or can I just start tiling over the painted wall?
- No, you don't NEED backerboard BUT, I'll tell you from experience that it's much easier to work with, makes a better bond and you will have less trouble later on. I recommend the stuff with the little squares etched in (Hardibacker). Good Luck.
- Q: The ceramic tile in my shower is looking really shabby and I‘d like to re-do it in subway tiles on the walls and mini hexagonal tiles on the floor. Has anyone ever re-tiled an old shower? What should I keep in mind? It is a single story house that is about 30 years old and I beleive it is all the original stuff.
- Depending on your budget I would consider having them professionally refinished. They can do a great job and even change the color. But, if you want to tear them out you will have to install new backerboard(like concreate, called hardiboard). It can be very tedious and time consuming, you'll also need to rent a wet saw to cut the tiles. It will also be very messy and your bathroom will be out of comission for a few sayd if you are doing the work yourself, so I hope you have 2.
- Q: Do I want to use the concavity of a marble tiles to make a TV backdrop, right? Help designers,
- The concavity stone is very unique, not only can do the backdrop can also do the home garden, but I still like their art painting, is the need for rice too much. O (╯ □ ╰) o, the last only bought a cappuccino series of brick, but we can learn from the effect.
- Q: Looking to install ceramic tile over concrete basement slab, 12x12 or 13x13 tiles. Main question is how perfectly level/flat does the concrete need to be. If I put a tile down and there is some minor rocking is that no good or will the thinset adhesive take care of that.
- Any rocking means the tile is hitting either a high spot or there is a low spot. Low spots can be dealt with the thin set. As long as its less than a 1/4. High spots usually needs to be ground down flat. So to answer your question , for ease of installation and the prevention of cracked tiles at a later date, floors need to be as flat as possible. If you have minor rocking with no thin set down, in some cases a larger sized trowel will do the trick. Each case is different and has to be dealt with differently. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: We are wanting to get rid of old wood floors. We are debating tile vs. concrete finished floors. Pro/cons? What about cost difference.
- Tile can cost from about $1 and sqaure foot plus, thinset and grout plus the cost to install it. If you do it yourself it's free of course if you hire someone then it can cost from about $2 a square foot on up. so, it depends on how manyh sqare feet you have. Concrete flooring looks okay. It has an industrial look. It cracks very often and costs around $3 a square foot according to a friend of mines estimate. I say go with tile. It's a lot easier to clean and more durable and lasts a lot longer.
- Q: How to convert tiles how much money a square meter?
- Tiles are generally quoted according to the block, to be converted into square meters of the price you need to calculate the area of each brick (unit: square meters), and then the price of each tile divided by the area of each tile (unit: square meters) You can get the price per square tile. For example, 800mm * 800mm tile is 100 yuan a piece, each tile area is 0.64 square meters, so the price per square meter is: 100 / 0.64 = 156.25 (yuan / per square meter), and so on. Tiles, living room is generally 800mm * 800mm or 600mm * 600mm, kitchen and toilet generally 300mm * 300mm or 300mm * 450mm, then 800mm * 800mm brick, converted into rice is 0.8m * 0.8m, then 800mm * 800mm brick is 0.8 Meter * 0.8 meters is equal to 0.64 square meters, 600 * 600 brick is 0.36 square meters, 300 * 300 brick is 0.09 square meters, 300 * 450 is 0.135 square meters.
- Q: How about daily maintenance tiles?
- Tile daily maintenance and cleaning: 1, the daily cleaning of tiles can be used detergent, soap and other cleaning. 2, with soap plus a little ammonia and turpentine mixture, cleaning tiles can make tiles more shiny. 3, polished tiles should be regularly waxing treatment, the interval is 2-3 months is appropriate. 4, brick surface, such as scratches, can be applied in the scratches toothpaste, wipe with a dry cloth can be repaired. 5, brick and brick cracks can be used from time to time with dirt to remove dirt, and then in the gap brush a layer of waterproofing agent, can mold growth. 6, tea, coffee, beer, ice cream, grease and other pollutants using sodium hydroxide or potassium bicarbonate solution. 7, ink, cement and other pollutants using hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and other dilute solution. 8, paint, paint and other pollutants use special cleaning agent. 9, rust can be washed with 2% oxalic acid solution to eliminate, and then wipe with water. With 3-4 tablets of vitamin C tablets crushed into powder, sprinkled on the floor tile surface, and then scrub with water several times, but also remove the rust stains. In the case of rust, can be 10% oxalic acid, citric acid and water mixture will dip rust at the wet, and then wipe with a thick salt again. If fresh lemons can be squeezed out of its juice drops on the rust stains rubbed by hand, repeated several times until the rust stains removed, and then washed with soap and water. 10, a variety of plastic can be used to remove the banana water, pure banana water is colorless transparent volatile liquid, a strong smell of banana, slightly soluble in water, soluble in a variety of organic solvents, flammable, mainly used for painting Of the solvent and diluent.
- Q: My father wanted to replace the tiles in the master bathroom as he plans on putting the house on the market. I was skeptical whether or not he could accomplish the project and after hitting several snags I‘ve decided to get involved. The problem is that the old tile was removed and there‘s only 7/8 - 1 to work with. The new tile is 3/8 thick; leaving 1/2. His original plan was to lay down plywood, cement board, then tile, however, it‘s going to raise the floor a solid 1 which will cause several complications. Any advice on what the #$@* I‘m supposed do? I truly appreciate all of your help.
- It wont raise the floor, jus fix your tiles with a good tile adhesive . dont go for cement.
- Q: Dont worry about looks with the dollar tile just want to know pricing pretty much on the tile and how expensive it is.
- If you are doing the tile work yourself, it will be cheaper than having one of those fiberglass shower enclosures put in. You are looking at the cost of tile (at $1/sqft.), grout ($10 or less), permabase/durock ($9 per 3x5 sheet), mastic ($30 for high quality), and caulk ($4), to get the job done. On an average size shower, this will bring your total material bill in at right around $200. This is based on entirely ripping out your old shower walls (back to the studs), and building an entirely new shower. A complete rennovation for $200. This is what I do for a living, and I can honestly tell you that you will save tons if you are handy enough to do this yourself. One side note on the pre-fab showers (fiberglass, urethane, etc) - we get a lot of calls to come out and remove mold from these types of enclosures. On most that I've seen there are a lot of corners and small nooks that moisture gathers up and sits in. Just something to watch out for should you go that method. Good luck to you, either way.
