Q: I have a bunch of bottle caps and I thought it might be cool to encase them in some type of clear material so I could use them for tiles in my shower. Is it even possible to do that?
If you have a tile size , sure make the mold just a hair smaller than the tile. Same if your just replacing a few and making the bottle cap tile as a deco tile. Just use a white thin set and completely smooth coat over the back so you see a all white back ground through your deco.. The use of a extra modified thin set is required because this wouldn t be much different than setting glass tiles. GL
Q: Complete DIY newbie here with an outdated bathroom that I want to make a master. The floor is covered in hideous 1x1 tiles. I will replace this tile with some 12x12 or 8x8. Any suggestions on how to get this stuff off?
How To Remove Mosaic Tiles
Q: How many pieces of a tiles are there in general?
Look at the specifications! General 600 * 600 4 pieces 800 * 800 3 pieces, some thick brick 2 pieces
Q: I have painstakingly cleaned and restored victorian age tiles in hall (using natural and eco products). Wondering what to seal with? Found few eco tile sealants but wondered if anyone used any without distorting the colour? Thanks :)
Most tile have a glazed finish so unless it dose not have it,it will be difficult to seal. You don`t mention wheat her its wall or floor tiles,if it wall tiles you might get away with it.If it floor tiles I think it will cause a problem by walk over it.
Q: hello, this is my first tile and grout job, tiling is done now for grout. bought premixed grout, rubber float, sponge, started grouting last night, put grout on the float and applied to the tile. pushed it into the space between tiles, but it seems like alot fell off in the tub (its in the spaces between tiles) but is this normal for the grout to fall off the wall (i guess it would be considered excess?) but is that normal no sure how applying grout is suppose to look? i know i need to let it sit for 24hrs then do clean up then seal it when done. plz let me know if that grout falling in tub is normal or am i doing something wrong? ( grout is in the grout line though) just looks like alot is falling, or am i useing to much at one time? don‘t know? thx again for any info. mike
use the premixed grout...much easier to use. u might have too much grout on your float. there is a technique to appllying it to the wall and not have it fall off the float. dont let it set on the tile that long before u wipe it off...after u have scraped the excess grout off the tile ..wait a few minutes for the grout to set up in the gaps...then take a wet sponge and wipe off the excess and wash out sponge often...it is a tedious process.the idea is to let grout set up long enough so whenu sponge the tile u wont drag out the grout u just put into the gaps.. its not easy but u have to get excess grout off the tile without setting up, or u will have a disaster on your walls.
Q: We have small ceramic tiles on our bathroom floor. They are varied in shape and size (see photo).I think that these tiles originally came with some sort of netting on the back when they laid the floor and they added grout? I believe I saw some extra tiling somewhere in our home and this is what I had found.Anyway, the grout is breaking up between some of the tiles and some of the tiles keep popping out. I have two questions, If I regrout them do I put it on the bottom of the tile too and does that make the tile adhere to the floor? How would I get the grout to match what‘s already there, it‘s a medium brown gray. Not sure if it started out that way or became like that over the years. Would it look funny if the grout didn‘t match? How could I get it to match?

Q: i need help putting up counter tops and backsplashes.(tile)
I tile every day of my life, and might understand your confusion, but wonder of the type of HELP you need? On a countertop, my standard is 1/8th inch grout lines. Your issue depends in some part, on the size of the counter top and tiles you choose. Obviously on a floor, using 12 x 12 tiles, IF you went with a 1/8 grout line, you add an inch in floor measurement...loss/gain, for every 8 tiles set. Most effective for a backsplash and counter face is to include Bullnose and the reverse of that (the name escapes me) for where the counter meets the splash. The substrate should be molded to conform, but with adequate prep, you could fill. Certainly an ideal is for a counter top substrate to be exacly large enough to accomodate tile sizes, and grout lines, with no cutting. That's a rare occurance, unless it was preplanned. AND again depends on tile size. 2, 6, 9, 12, etc. and shapes in tile, IE: Octagonal Im my kitchen, my counter tops are 24 inches deep, to the wall. Using a 1/8 grout line, I'll have cuts to make, no matter the size of the tile, unless I find some that aren't exactly as stated. (Undersize) Glad to add if you wish, but wonder what type of Help exactly, you need. Steven Wolf
Q: Cleaning tiles is a lot of work because they attract mildew, soap scum, etc. Now that the cleaning and scrubbing is done, what‘s next? What‘s an easy and environment-friendly way to maintain tiles? Also, if you have a suggestion for keeping a bathtub clean, that would be appreciated as well. Thanks!
Always wipe off excess water after you bathe or shower. You can use a wash cloth and wipe off the water from the tiles. Buy a spray bottle and fill 90% water, 10% vinegar. Spray all the tiles in the shower/bath area with the water/vinegar once a week and let dry. The vinegar will not harm the grout or tiles and will eliminate mildew from growing. Bleach would be good for cleaning the tub but its not environmentally friendly. Try water/vinegar and steel wool to get the stains out. Then once a week water/vinegar and wipe clean.
Q: Renovation of the new house is good with tiles or wooden floor ah? Which of the two are you expensive?
Now renovated new homes Most families use the floor, of course, its price will be more expensive. First, from the comfort of the contrast: the tiles in the summer feel cool, in the winter there will be a kind of cold feeling, and the floor than the warmth of the family is relatively poor. Especially the children are small or the elderly family, and now the mainstream tiles are tiles, too slippery, the elderly, the children easy to slip, and the floor is not as slippery tiles; children are generally barefoot on the ground to play, floor The advantage is even more obvious, winter and summer are not cool. Say maintenance: now the composite floor, basically do not deliberately maintenance. Just use the mop when a little dry, do not drip on the line, you can wash the first half a day to wash the water and then on the line. Third, the environmental aspects: the main pollutants on the floor is formaldehyde, as long as it is through the national quality supervision and inspection of the floor of the formaldehyde content of 1.5mg / L below, several well-known brands also reached 0.5 below, even lower than the European standards The The tiles are the main harm is radioactive, not visible, should not be identified. Fourth, the space problem: the floor occupies only 1 ~ 1.5cm height, and tiles to occupy at least 3 ~ 5cm height. The floor is only in the original ground laying a layer of mat to play the role of cushioning and moisture, and tiles to shop at least three millimeters of sand ash. Five, the second renovation problem: no matter who, will not be a house in the end no longer decoration, over ten years or two years will come again to renovate, then the advantages of the floor is more reflected. The floor can be directly opened to throw away, downstairs costs are very low; and tiles have to chisel down, laborious room to get very dirty and have to pay a low downstairs costs.
