Q: I need help with my white tile grout. Nothing I do keeps/gets it clean. Any tips for an easy fix to dirty grout, or does anyone know if it‘s possible to add color to grout after it‘s been set?
Aqua Mix sells a product called Grout Colorant. It comes in all the grout colors available. It is painstaking to recolor the grout, but I have done thousands of square feet, and it looks good. Just follow the instructions on the bottle. Home Depot has a few colors, but a flooring store can get all of the colors.
Q: so i was wanting to lay some ceramic tiles down in a small room. right now in the room i think theres vinyl tiles and they r laid right on top of the pplywood floor. so im just wondering am i able to just lay the ceramic tiles right on top of the plywood floor after i tear up scrape up the old floor? any advice?
Kat and Kevin, It is not absolutely critical to put down material over the plywood before tiling. It's just better to do so. Nowadays, most people use backer board on top of the plywood. This is because backer board doesn't shrink or swell due to changes in moisture content. However, I've seen and done tiling directly over plywood in the past. This is done when customers are on a strict budget. In most homes built with plywood sub floors, tar paper is usually used between the two layers of plywood sub flooring. This acts as a moisture barrier and prevents the bottom layer and floor joists from being exposed to moisture. (I have seen tiling work done directly over plywood and it has lasted, without cracks in the gout, for 20 years). Having said that, it's best to lay down something like backer board. Increasing the height of your floor can be a problem with any addition to the plywood sub floor. Sometimes doors or other items can be affected by the increased height. You can also use different thicknesses of backer board to prevent too much height, while still using the board.
Q: I took off all the old flooring in the bathroom and whats left is wood (plywood), can I tile directly onto the plywood or do I need to set something down first?
i could advise paying a contractor simply by fact there are a number of stuff that would bypass incorrect. ...sub floor has bounce, so tiles do no longer stay down, grout cracks, putting a rest room over tiles (you may desire to enhance the bathroom, and reset it after the tiles are laid. you will additionally might desire to diminish the tiles around the ABS and which would be somewhat complicated too.) then the bathroom can nonetheless leak inflicting injury. yet once you're a superb DIYer, then bypass to domicile Depot or Rona and take a seminar.

Q: I have plain jane 4 white ceramic tile and it does not go with my new room colors for my bath....can this be painted?
Why don't you get Wallies or decals and decorate the white tiles? they are easy to remove if you get tired of the theme and don't cost a lot.
Q: I want to add a backsplash with a 4x4 ceramic tile. I only want to go up 1 or 2 tiles in height not the whole wall area. Edges of the tiles are not black for the unfinished ceramic. How do I make the edges look finished or black also?
Most tile patterns have edge pieces just for this purpose. When you go shopping for your tile, check to see if there are matching edge pieces in the same color. Edge pieces are narrow, beveled or rounded off in some way so you can just butter them in along the last row of tiles and give it a finished look. Talk to the shop folks and see what they've got for you.
Q: we are planning on replacing our livingroom carpet, !/2 of it withceramic tile. Is there any do‘s and don‘ts to consider. Thanks.
With all due respect and not knowing at all your DESIGN, certainly I have suugestions. After installing thousands of sq. ft of tile, and various other flooring I ask that you e mail me. The tile installed may be at some similar level to the tile but needs transition molding, and again without knowing the design; is to to be a DECO thing or a simple carpet butted to tile as in half a space? The installation process isn't so difficult even for a DY, but there are things to consider, I offer all the help, through my experience, I can offer in emailing me... even if I'm not BEST. Q: It is in my kitchen , hall and bath. Is the reason that tiling is so expensive becasue of having to remove the old tile first?
If the existing tile is sound and not loose you can tile over it. You must use modified thin set motar adhesive. The only way to remove tile is to beat it off. Since (as you say) is is directly on wood you may get lucky and the bond is not tight. If this is the case you may get it off using a shovel to scrape and pry. If not safety glasses long sleeves, a hammer and chisel are the way to go.
Q: Things fade on the tiles how to get rid of
Very polluted for all-round water cleaning Daily cleaning of household cleaning or detergent cleaning Removal of oil tiles daily cleaning optional detergent, soap and other cleaning. Add a little mixture of ammonia and turpentine soap, cleaning tiles can make the tiles more shiny. Polished tiles should be regularly waxing treatment, the time interval of 2-3 months is appropriate.
