- Q: I have a tile floor in my kitchen, and I have tiles in both of my bathrooms, floors and shower walls. Whats is the best way to clean these with out removing the grout?
- Kaboom grout cleaner. Not tub and tile. There is to different ones. They both are very good. If you can find the Kaboom grout cleaner It will do all of it. Other wise use hot water and Just a cap full of the tub and tile cleaner from kaboom ,
- Q: Ok we are remodeling our kitchen and have the area between the counter tops and the bottom of the upper cabinets that is currently some ugly green tiles. Very small ones at that. We do not want the hassle to remove these and try to replace with something more attractive. We are looking for solutions to just cover the tiles with something d-i-y and not too expensive. I have seen a lot of peel and stick stuff but don't know if it can be used on tiles. Please give suggestions!
- In the end, you will not be happy with anything less than removing the tiles, repairing the wall, and installing a tile back splash you like. Anything else would not be appealing, nor would it last. This could easily be a weekend project and is well worth the effort, if not just for the resale value.
- Q: We want to put up kitchen tile for our back splash. I would like to put the squares on diagonally but my husband is concerned about the difficulty of all of the cuts. I need some DYI help. Please only serious replies, no jokesters
- If your husband is concerned because of the cuts, it ll depend a lot on what type of tile your working with.. A soft bodied tile that is self spacing. The kind that has little lugs on them and fit together fairly tight, these are easy to do.A little more challenging if they require a spacer. If you use a mastic, the tiles will stay pretty much in place when you set them and then place a small spacer in the joint. If you know or when you know what type your installing e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. I ll help you along and give you pointers.. GL
- Q: All together, which one is more expensive to install and buying the tile or wood? Thanks!!! And if you can, leave site names.
- carpet, baileys
- Q: making a counter top from spare tile pieces
- Prep your counter to meet tile standards, Each one can be different so with out knowing what yours is I cant say there. You ll need to figure what you want to do with the edge to trim it out. You can use a tile bull nose or a wood trim. Spread the needed glue, usually a thin set , over a small area. Then you can break tiles , ( very carefully) with a hammer or a pair of tile nippers. I use tile nippers to create the piece effect. These methods are called rubble effect. You ll need a honing stone to hone the tile edges so they are not sharp. Set into the wet glue, don t let it skim over or become dry. Grout as needed depending on what type of tile you use. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: Anyone know how much I should expect to pay to have a professional install ceramic tile flooring? The prep work has been done. The tile is 12 x 12, there‘s about 90 sq ft of floor (concrete... sealed). I‘ve purchased the materials (tile, thinset, grout). I just want to know how much to expect to pay for labor. Is $5.00 per sq ft. too much? That‘s the quote I was given. Thanks for any help.
- Sometimes it is not only how many square feet of tile is required to put down, the formula also must take into consideration the difficulty of the installation. The difficulty is proportional to the number of cuts that are required to be performed and weather these cuts are straight or curved. There are also other expenses. 1.Soundness of sub floor. If poorly supported the tile will crack. 2.Does installation require removal of base molding and its replacement following the installation? 3.Moving of the appliances/furniture and so on. Finally, now days and roughly, the installer wants to make $260-400 per day. Tiling is never 1 day job since application of grout is required at least 24h following the installation. So if the job is straight forward 3.5 - 4.5 per square feet is a good price on the average. Considering it is with prep $5.00 sounds like Ok. New York City or LA for example may cost a bit more. Let me know if it helps.
- Q: How to choose bathroom tiles
- I do not know if there is no such decoration experience: most of the financial and material development are devoted to the living room and bedroom, alone ignored the bathroom, the final budget is not enough friends, bathroom wall had no choice but to hastily. Xiaobian home is like this, quoted a online encounter with the same encounter children's shoes: there have been a number of good tiles placed in front of me, I did not cherish, and now is regrettable. If God gave me a suite, I must raise the budget of the infinite unlimited, if you have to say a specific number, that is ten thousand yuan!
- Q: What is the tile material?
- Tile raw materials from the clay, quartz sand and so on mixed.
- Q: The shiny surface ceramic tile is set unto a cement slab - it has been there 15 years or more with no cracks. Do I need to rough up the surface before I set the tile- if so how? I have tried sanding it (60 grit), wire brushing it - there is no effect on the surface. Also I live in a small town - we do have a Home Depot - do they sell a good bonding agent? If so what? Thank-you for your answer!
- To go over tile I ve used both Flex Bond and VesaBond thinset made by Custom Building products, Both are usually sold at Home Depot.. One suggestion when tiling over tile, allow a few extra days drying time before any foot traffic on the new tile . Moisture has no where to go when doing this and extra drying time IS required. Do NOT add a latex additive if you use a polymer type thin set, only a latexed based thin set.. No sanding is generally needed, just a clean , oil and grease free tile. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: Is laying the self stick tile good for a kitchen
- As tactfully as I can put it, self-stick tile is about as cheap-a$$ as you can get for a kitchen (or bathroom) floor. What little bit you might save in the short term will have you tearing your hair out in the long run. If you want to go cheap and easy, don't settle for less than a good hard-finished linoleum or vinyl that can cover the floor in one piece. For a classier touch, there is a wide range of SEALED tile in many sizes, shapes, and color for most any budget. Non-sealed works, too, but most sealants take a LONG time to cure and few people want to go without a kitchen for days and smell the fumes for weeks. Either way you go, don't overlook a fresh layer of levelling compund. Even the best houses settle and shift over time and no one wants for a spill to get back under the cabinets where it can't be cleaned up.
