- Q: I have a tile floor in my kitchen, and I have tiles in both of my bathrooms, floors and shower walls. Whats is the best way to clean these with out removing the grout?
- Kaboom grout cleaner. Not tub and tile. There is to different ones. They both are very good. If you can find the Kaboom grout cleaner It will do all of it. Other wise use hot water and Just a cap full of the tub and tile cleaner from kaboom ,
- Q: is tiled floor the best flooring for people with pets?
- I have to agree with Warren. Tile is fine for pets, but cold if not heated. Allure TrafficMaster vinyl planking is a heavy floating floor that is tough too. I would not say tile is the best...depends on the tile type (some are quite slippery and will show scratches). Trimming pet nails will help, but when cats and/or dogs want to tear and play or chase, they will scratch flooring as they cannot get the traction they require. Be realistic. My animals all have their nails trimmed regularly and have lots of scratches and marks in my floors from them..it is just part of living in a home with pets.
- Q: How to identify the quality of ceramic tile and standard
- (5) water absorption: the number of drops on the back of the tiles of tea juice or water, to be a few minutes later, depending on the degree of diffusion of water droplets, non-absorbent or low water quality is good quality; (6) hardness: percussion tiles to listen to the sound is crisp, the sound more crisp, porcelain degree, the higher the density, good hardness; (7) abrasion resistance: to scratch the tiles with sharp objects to observe whether it is scratched, if scratched, said the glaze wear resistance is easy, easy to slip, and the surface of the glaze polished, the brick surface Dirty will not be clean; (8) glazed pinhole: buy, within one meter to observe the surface with a pinhole, if any, that glaze is not fully integrated, easy to produce accumulation of dirt situation; (9) flatness: to see whether the naked eye tile side is straight, if the war situation is serious, will affect the future of the solid tiles paving;
- Q: I have strip kitchen floor to sub floor. i am ready to install tiles. My question is: How to do the wet bed for laying ties later on.
- I m assuming yo mean a mortar bed or a mud bed for tiles. You don t want to do this for later on as you say. You want to lay tiles soon after it s set so you don t ruin the mortar bed by walking on it. This isnt something you usually just do , it takes practice and a bit of experience and is hard work but worth it when done right. A wet bed is a base of cement that the tiles are installed as you go. Old fashion method rarely used anymore. Now a mud bed is used and then a thin set is used to adhere the tile down. If you want to do a mud bed e mail me through my avatar and I ll guide you through it. GL
- Q: I live in a single-level ranch style house but on a concrete pad. I am re-tiling the kitchen floor. Upon removing the old tile, I discovered a 15 lb. felt pad had been glued to the floor; on top of this pad was thin set; then the tile. I live in Bakersfield, CA which is a dry and arrid climate.
- YIKES!! Even in the High Desert of California, there is moisture underground. But, getting to your question: a) If your pad was poured over a vapor barrier (visqueen, typically), you do not need to add anything new *as a vapor barrier*. b) It cannot hurt to install a sealer on top of the concrete before you install new tile in any case. That will reduce the dusting in any case. c) But I am thinking that the felt paper you found was installed as a strain-relief rather than a vapor-barrier. It allows the tile to move differently than the concrete slab. This becomes important if there are extreme changes in outside temperature - which penetrates the edges of the slab and varies with the time-of-day - with relatively constant temperature inside. If the tile is bonded directly to the concrete as those temperature changes take place it will begin to spall and separate - not good as even a few fractions of an inch of difference will be enough to break the bond between the tile and the concrete. Were it up to me, I would install a strain-relief (AKA underlayment) with the new tile. There are liquid applications (Laticrete) and sheet goods (Durock) which come to mind and are very effective as a bond-breaker yet give a solid, reliable surface to hold the tile. These are only two of many and are linked below.
- Q: What is the classification of tiles, what is the difference?
- Tiles are divided into floor tiles, wall tiles and waist tiles. Floor tiles: according to the color is divided into imitation Spanish bricks, glass polished tiles, glazed tiles, anti-skid tiles and seepage polished tiles. Wall tiles: according to the color can be divided into glass wall, printing wall tiles. Waist bricks: mostly printed tiles. In order to meet the specifications of the wall, waist brick is generally set to 60mm × 200mm format. Tiles according to the process is divided into: glazed tiles, quintana brick, polished tiles, tiles, ceramic tiles. Glazed tiles: Brick on the surface of a brick. This brick is divided into two categories: one is made of clay; the other is made with porcelain clay, the current home decoration about 80% of the buyers choose this brick for the floor decoration materials. Quintana Brick: This is a glazed porcelain tile that has good skid resistance and abrasion resistance. Generally speaking, "anti-skid tiles" are mostly quintana bricks. As this kind of brick price is moderate, popular consumer favorite. Polished tiles: the whole body after polishing polished polished tiles, this brick is very high hardness, very wearable. Tile: This is a kind of high temperature fired ceramic tile, is the hardest of all the tiles. Sometimes polished tiles are scratched when the tiles are still safe and sound. The Ceramic tiles: also known as mosaic, specifications, thin and small, hard texture, acid, alkali, wear, no water, strong pressure, not broken, colorful and versatile.
- Q: I need to know the quality of all different kinds of tiles. Please name the tile and the list or features of it so I can see which tile has the best and worst quality! THANK YOU!
- for walls--any tile will work, even the thin cheap ones. you can use any size tiles on walls. you dont need grouting if the tiles fit tight together (except in bathroom and backsplash in kitchen). for floors--you need abetter quality tile for the floor. you can also use larger tiles for the floor. some good but expensive tile for flooring is travertine, marble, granite, sandstone. manufactured tiles, such as porcelain, ceramic, quarry, terazzo,
- Q: I tiled my fireplace and mixed the grout according to the right measurements. now a whole section of it is crumbling... can someone tell me why this is and what to do - thank you
- When you say on the fireplace, I assume you mean the face of it. Without seeing it , it's hard to tell. I can only suspect that you used too much water in the mix, causing it to be weak. Or possibly the heat from the fireplace is expanding the tiles and causing the grout to pop out.
- Q: this tile i‘m buying is pei 5 and breaking point of 450 lbs. 24x24 inch. at a $1.60 sq/ft. is this a good tile?
- pei refers to the slip resistance of the tile . Thats the highest rating buttttt, most all porcelains are rated this high. 5 rates the tile at a commercial usage which will take heavy foot traffic The tinsel strength is just average. So overall its not a bad tile. The absolute most important thing is the proper setting technique. Not setting it properly and over the correct sub floor , it doesn t matter what you get. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: I have a 10 gallon tank for my adult female leopard gecko, and I have these two tiles for the substrate. I am going to fill in the cracks between the two tiles with sand so it will look nice, i want your guys input on this please.
- There are many different things to put as a floor. the most natural for a grown leopard gecko is sand.you should ask at your local pet store or just look at a book on bedding for leopard geckos. If you would like, you can also get a carpet for lizards only (they sell different size carpets for different sized tanks). I have never heard of tiles and floors for them, but how long have you had it like that? is it as simple to clean as sand? i personally think it should be all sand when they are grown.... but research best bedding for them. There are many options. hope this helps and good luck :)
