- Q: What is the tile?
- The so-called tiles are made of refractory metal oxides and semi-metallic oxides, through the process of grinding, mixing, pressing, glazing, sintering, and forming an acid-resistant ceramic or stone building , Collectively referred to as tiles. The raw materials are mostly made of clay, quartz sand and so on.
- Q: We had redid our cupboards a couple years ago and still have to properly cover the hole that was left for the vent on the previous vent system. It looks like they used staples of some type but the way it is just needing 1 and a half (or less) tiles it‘s awkward.
- Most ceiling tiles have a tounge groove so each tile fits into another. When you are piecing in tiles it's impossible to get the tounges in the grooves without breaking them. I would suggest, cutting off the tounges with a razor knife and install with Liquid nails or some other construction adhesive. To keep the tiles in place while the glue is drying, cut a 2X4 long enough and put it under the tile while the glue sets up. You might want to put a towell between the tile and the 2X4 to keep from damaging the tile. For the 1/2 tile, score the backside of a tile with a razor knife then break it in half.
- Q: I‘m remodeling my kitchen back splash and bathroom shower and i love the Moroccan tiles. Does anyone know any source for Moroccan tiles in San Francisco, California?
- The okorder / Cheers, and Good luck Anna,
- Q: What kind of tiles good? How to look?
- Personal feeling Huapeng tiles good, good quality. A good tile to see a variety of, for example: 1, hardness 2, water absorption 3, wear resistance 4, acid and alkali resistance
- Q: Hexagonal tiles of side 20cm are used to tile a room that measures 6.25m by 4.85m. Assuming we complete edges by cutting up tiles how many tiles are needed?
- First you need to get the square of the room by multiplying the lenght and the width...6.25m x's 4.85m Then convert that into cm. Next do the same thing on your tile and divid that with your floor and that will give you the # of tiles....I may be wrong here but here we go.... 6.25 * 4.85 = 30.3125 *100 = 3031.25 sq cm ROOM 20 * 6 = 180 sq cm TILE 3031.25 / 180 = 17 tiles I am sure that this is off I would suggest if a room is 12 x 18 ft giving 216 sq ft and a box of tile at a 1.5 x 1.5 at 9 tiles each box at 20 sq ft would be about 11 boxes Another soulution is to goto the hardware store and ask the tile pro to tell you how many you need and give him the measurements lol
- Q: New handyman project involves putting ceramic tile on bathroom walls. Never tried this before. Any tips or suggestions? What about a web site with do it yourself directions?
- 1. remove the old ceramic 2.if no old ceramic and wall is painted try to remove paint making deep scraches 3.measure from floor the higt of tile and make a little mark 4.trace a line using a level across the walls of the bathroom walls 5.screw a ruler under the level line 6.spread glue one of the wall the twice the higt of the tile 7. finished all walls remuve leveled rules, maybe you have to cut the floor line alittle it is ok. 8. seal the spaces betwin each tile. never let exes of glue or sealant dry, clean it wileworking. good luk!
- Q: I want to lay tile in my mobile home, and I want a cheaper alternative to wonderboard for the tile that I want to install. My home is on a concrete foundation tied down and the flooring is solid I‘m just concerned with the tile not sticking to the osb plywood. Any serious answers would be appreciated
- Unfortunately, there is no cheap solution to this issue. While other products are available, they will all meet, or exceed the cost of cement board (wonderboard). Laying tile onto plywood is not recommended, however it can be done. The problem with laying onto plywood directly is that over time the plywood will compress, which will lead to eventual cracking of tiles and grout. Plywood also carries vibration better than wonderboard, which can lead to cracking again. The tiles will stick to plywood, however, you do run the risk of cracking tiles. Personally, I use a product called Ditra. It is a waffle patterned membrane that prevents cracking due to minor floor movements, and creates a waterproof barrier under the tiles. If cost is your worry, remember that a new, nice looking tile floor will add re-sale value to your home, and you will recover your costs.
- Q: Hello! I currently have a 3 season sunroom addition on the back of my home that has been stripped down to the wood. I recently saw a 4 season sunroom that had tile down and needless to say, I fell in love with it! I am thinking about putting tile down in there but am worried about the weather...I live in Minnesota where it gets very cold...and that room is not heated in the winter. Would I have problems with the tile cracking? Or does anyone know of an alternative way to get a tile-looking floor without having to worry the temperature changes??
- Hi, In the UK we have a floor covering which is similar to the wood effect laminate floor, it locks together and looks amazingly like 9x9 tiles. I put it in my bathroom and it is not as cold as tiles to the bare feet. It is a wood/paper based product but is waterproof for the normal house hold duty. I assume that the Minnesota winter will not make it too cold. Use a styrefoam underlay 2mm thick to prevent heat loss. this is a do it yourself job if you are handy with a saw, We know it as TILE LOK
- Q: your supposed to?Would it damage the tiles?
- Ceramic tile has a glaze on it which keeps the vinegar from harming the tile, however--you might have to reseal your grout if you use to much vinegar over a period of time. Vinegar can work on the grout like an acid if it isn't diluted properly. One teaspoon of vinegar to one quart of water is best.
- Q: im going to tile the floor next weekend with 16x16 ceramic tile, and i could use some advice2 questions actually...1. when i lay my backerboard, and tape the staggered seams, do i keep that thinset over the tape very thin? im afraid of a hump in the floor when i go to lay tile.2. how much pressure do i apply when seting the tiles in the thinset? ive seen websites that show very little pressure..and some that show alot of pressure. does it need to float on the thinset or mash it down in the thinset. i just want this to turn out good...its my 1st time, and ive done alot of research, but the information varies from person to person. any added advice or tips on this project would be greatly appreciated.
- The thinset is self leveling, so do not worry about the bump of the tape. The tiles need to be pressed down enough that the tile cement has a good coverage of the back of the tile. Try one, and see what coverage you get. Then do the same after wards. Sounds a bit difficult, but when you do it, then it will seem very straight forward. Good Luck
